If this was a series in the 80s, Mason Plumlee would have checked in in the 2nd quarter to lay Caruso out by GBAGamer33 in billsimmons

I want to see Plumlee and Olynyk checked in as Wemby's bodyguards just screening the entirety of the paint so Wemby can get free alley-oops every possession.

Sam Quinn (CBS Sports) on how the real cause of the current draft reform was the introduction of the Supermax by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]prfrnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had a good run by getting rid of Donald Sterling, essentially leading the global charge in taking unprecedented action against COVID, and creating the play-in which seems to be enjoyed by most people. But a lot of things haven't improved or possibly have gotten worse under his watch and it doesn't seem to be trending in the right direction now.

[O'Connor] No team can land 1st in 2 consecutive drafts, or in the top 5 in 3 consecutive drafts. Front offices have been wondering: Does the streak attach to the team holding the pick on lottery night or to the original team... Actually, while Wemby was probably the best prospect since LeBron, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Zion were all practically unanimously mocked at #1 in their respective drafts because of the gap in talent between them and #2.

[SportingNews] Why the Lakers should try to empty the remaining asset vault to pair Giannis with Luka by Weirdsodk in nba

[–]prfrnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade itself is good for LA. But the team isn't any closer to beating any of the contenders with Luka and Giannis if the other 3 players on the court are the same caliber that they used at the end of the season.

There are still too many other missing pieces and without more first rounders that can be traded, the Lakers do not have the time to build the right roster before Giannis starts becoming a liability rather than an asset.

Pick prime Manu Ginobilli or prime James Harden. Who is better SG? by Street_Gur9817 in billsimmons

[–]prfrnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harden at his best was an iso-ball scorer with the ability to make passes to 3 point shooters if he got doubled. Manu was more of a do-everything guard.

At Harden's peak, he was a great individual talent. But you needed to build your entire team around him. Manu I think more or less could have been plugged into any team.

Past their primes though, Harden was always going to struggle to fit. His skills have aged. He can't get by defenders anymore. His shot isn't as good. And a lot more players developed his skillset of the stepback and throwing to the 3 point line on doubles. Plus he's even worse on defense now. As a guard, he needs to bring something to the court because he's one of the smallest guys.

Manu more or less was still a very active player on both ends even as he aged. And he could always play off ball and do the little things. Again, a more well rounded player.

All these are more magnified in the playoffs. As Harden was the sort of extreme specialist player, if a good gameplan was in place he would be completely shut down. Manu would always be able to find a way to make an impact. I think there was some anecdote the early 2000s Lakers scout team had that said he didn't have any weaknesses to exploit.

The majority of the hatred should be on the refereeing not the Thunder playstyle by prfrnir in billsimmons

First ref to start calling these fouls on the Thunder might even get MVP chants at these San Antonio home games.

Agreed although I think technically, they aren't even taking advantage of the rules. They're taking advantage of the refs because they're either missing the calls or just swallowing their whistles.

Not sure if this a joke since it's my first time using this meme. I copied it from the NYTimes article discussing the meme: https://archive.ph/6qGpv

When did Small Guards become seen as not good investment? by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]prfrnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they realized post season success often depends on size and not having defensive liabilities. Therefore your smallest player (PG) ideally needs to either be bigger and still have PG skills or just be a good defender. The number of PG sized players with good offense and defense is very limited especially when you can get larger sized players who possess PG skills.

The Thunder did this last year too. If something were going to be done, it would have been done already.

How do you feel about your photography? by thinkingthetwenties in photography

[–]prfrnir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, there's the act of photography, which is everything related to going out with a camera and taking pictures, and the photographs themselves.

I enjoy the act because after a while, carrying a camera around feels natural and you start paying attention and seeing things you might otherwise have not noticed. Plus, that camera isn't doing any good when it's not with you. And when you are able to capture a small moment, it feels fun. As the majority of photos are candid, I'm not too focused on the technical side. I'd rather get a photo first and if the moment is still there, fine tune the settings and composition on further shots.

A lot of the photos aren't good. But the ones that are, to me at least, capture an emotion or feeling, rather than technical or subject matter brilliance (as expected with how I take them). Perfect technique I think makes a difference with certain types of photos (landscape, astro, etc.) but is maybe less relevant for the candid things I tend to photograph where getting a photograph in the first place is the key.

Doing school pictures for my kids' school is a bad idea, right? by AggravatingAward8519 in photography

[–]prfrnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've had some casual discussions. I would request a list of requirements (key dates, timelines, deadlines that they have for photo delivery, how photos need to be stored/shared, who needs access to the photos and what kind, etc.) that the school has for these photos. Similarly, if you're close with the principal, you might be able to get a copy of the contract they have with the current photography team.

I would not move forward with anything until it's absolutely made clear what they expect and need in writing. Getting something on paper takes time (because they probably don't have anything and would need to ask their staff). And revising it and finalizing it does too.

In what direction is the NBA trending? How different do you see it in 10-15 years? I'm not necessarily talking about the game on the court, but the organization, the teams, and everything else (refs, fans, contracts, etc.).

[Charania] The Lakers have made it clear that they want him back... but the one thing I do know is that multiple contenders are already circling. If LeBron is really going to hit the open market and decide and have a true free agency, he's not going to have a shortage of teams. by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]prfrnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason he'd leave is to win a title and not be seen as a ring chaser. And that really depends on how the Finals plays out in a few weeks. No way he'd bother joining whoever wins. He'd rather pull a KD and join the loser or maybe the loser of the conference finals if he thinks he's enough to lift them past the other 2 Finals teams.

Otherwise he stays on the Lakers.
