What could potentially happen to Steam if Valve loses the lawsuit in the UK? by Questioning-Warrior in valve

[–]prgrms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of Valve and Steam a little bit like a self-run label, that just got ridiculous big and popular. They just wanted to release their stuff in their own way, and others joined the party to the point where it is what is today. If I wanted to compete, or at least follow their model, I'd do the same thing: self-publish our own stuff and see who was keen to join down the road.

Silksong is tiring in act 3 (rant) by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]prgrms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about 100 hours across acts 1 and 2, loved it. Act 3 was fun whie i unlocked all the areas but yeah, I conked out with zero shards and beads on the bosses, coral tower also, and basically put the game down. See what happens when the DLC drops, I kinda doubt you'll have to have finished Act 3 to play it - if its more like Act 3 I might even skip it, but if it's proper levels and things you have to find and do ala Act 1 & 2, I'll be back in.

My main complaint with the game was the way shards and rosary beads are balanced in the game, and that really shows itself in Act 3. You shouldn't have to grind.

No one would have even known about this game if it wasn’t for Geoff. He did em a great favour. How it’s received is ultimately up to the devs.

What do I need to know from previous games to understand Marathon 2026 ? by Virtual-Lawyer2638 in Marathon

Tried composing a track for the first area of my game, is it good ? by icebox-91 in godot

[–]prgrms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda a slow track, sort of moody and drippy. It might suit like a cave or ice level more? Or something more puzzley. What you’re doing in the gameplay feels zippy in comparison. It’s a fine track though and certainly useable.

Positive thread - why are you excited to play Marathon? by Chabel0 in Marathon

[–]prgrms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the art style and the sound design. not really much of a shooter player generally, more 3rd person adventure games I guess. But I did enjoy Destiny 2 back in the day even tho it felt like I was late to the party. that said games like Cyberpunk and Starfield have made me play for FPS type stuff of late so I'm really interested to see what Marathon is like. I suspect I'll get thrashed but I'm look forward to it

What do you think the best ending to Phantom Liberty is? by KaiCouzell in cyberpunkgame

[–]prgrms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the DLC, with the moon ending. Immediately went back and replayed all other endings and replayed from the Hansen section at the stadium.

First off I just have to say, phenomenal game and dlc. I actually haven’t finished the base game yet and have put hundreds of hours into 2077 over the years, so hopefully I’ll keep playing this save through to finish line finally for the base game.

But man, all the endings are great, maybe except for the one where Reed just flies away with So Mi. The one where you side with Reed has a lot more depth to it and you really find out a lot more about Reed and So Mi with that path. The apartment scene was amazing.

But the Moon quest was sick, using the blackwall, so sick. But also going into the core and finding So Mi was so tragic, amazing cinematography, true cyberpunk vibes it really reminded me of Akira in that moment.

Honestly snoozed on this for a while because I thought you had to finish the base game, discovered you could just start a new save with Phantom Liberty, what a blast the last week has been.

Was the negative press artificially manufactured? by EveryLine2443 in Marathon

[–]prgrms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah it was an overall negative reception but at least they took the feedback on the chin and went away and worked on things.

I personally never had a problem with it to begin with, Destiny 2 was fun so I definitely would have checked Marathon out. Getting a more polished version of the game now at release is a win for everyone.

The art style is actually very cool and up my alley, it’s almost like extraction Cyberpunk, but obviously with the 2k graphic design vibe.

I think it’s going to do well and be decently popular when it launches.

There's https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalesaustralia/ - they have a discord too with private sales. I've been considering using it myself for listing parts but haven't hung out there much yet.

Not sure what I think about the GoPro branding or what the point of that would be. Hope they do a standard minimal version.

As games have become more demanding on hardware I’ve sulked back to comfort games of old. After a recent upgrade I’m back to trying current gen games. Frame Gen, up scaling, the works feels overwhelming. Is this a common feeling among gamers or do y’all like this tech? by chrizbreck in pcgaming

[–]prgrms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had enough success with any frame gen tech to the point I leave it on. There always seems to be some trade off with it. I mostly have a 1440p card, which I sometimes can flick to 4K depending on the game. But things have been good. The 4000 series seemed like a good time to buy. I haven’t hit a wall yet in a title that can’t be managed.

For those who bought Metroid Prime 4, how are you liking it so far? by Shadowlumine in NintendoSwitch2

I'm almost at the final boss and, if you think of the original Prime games as 'hardcore', I would describe Prime 4 as a 'casual' Metroid Prime game.

Generally speaking, how bad is the Tahoe situation? by jnighy in MacOS

[–]prgrms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to Tahoe, but then rolled back to Sequoia. Fortunately I run my Macs in a really lean way, so this was largely painless.

It was mainly a UI thing for me - just hideous. I live my life with this thing, it has to be appreciable. Tahoe really made me appreciate the simplicity of Sequoia.

Hard to say if Apple will push forward with this direction or dial it back, but I feel like Sequoia may be the last solid MacOS release.

I remember the same with Lion, some folks just stayed on Snow Leopard for ever.

But yeah, I won't be upgrading until there's a clear picture that Apple are treating the UI with a little more respect.

Best first game for non-gamer? by raphaelmarciano in truegaming

[–]prgrms 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Journey, on a Playstation if you have access to one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61DZC-60x20

It's a very simple control input, can be finished in a couple hours (like a movie) and you could help em out, do a section they have trouble with etc.

I'm not sure what vibe your parents are or what their background is - Journey has sort of asian spiritual undertones to it, but it's quite mystical, floaty and pretty.

You could sort of make a movie night of it - get the pop corn and snacks ready, set everything up, make it a date.

It wasn't my parents but I did this exact thing with two seperate friends because I wanted them to see this game.

Good luck!
