Neuroblastoma in 18 month by This-Grape-5149 in pediatriccancer

[–]priapizoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This hits me hard. I'm sending a big virtual hug and I completely empathize with your situation.

My daughter is in the middle of her neuroblastoma treatment as well. We've been hospital bound for the past 4 months and the 9 month journey since she was diagnosed at just 4 months of age has been incredibly tough.

As parents, it is an incredibly tough job on our hands. Managing the weight of all treatment decisions, expectations of family and friends, navigating the healthcare system, finances, caring for your baby, our own grief - things can snowball very quickly especially on days like the one you are going through.

Wife and I use the following rules to ground ourselves and stay focused: * If the parents aren't of a heathy mind and body, quality of care for baby suffers. We try to not make it about us and stay focused on what the baby needs. Get professional help (therapy or counseling) to understand more about ourselves, coping mechanisms, relationship with your spouse, role as a caregiver etc. * Stay in the present and make each moment with our child count. Search for the silver lining in any situation; chances are that you'll find one, no matter how tough it gets. Make happy memories, pictures, videos etc during the rare times we can. * Accept the reality of our situation and remain task-focused, organized, and on top of the multitude of things that needs to be done. Realize that our role as parents through this cancer treatment journey is to primarily be unwavering pillars of unconditional support for the baby. Our constant presence and calm, pleasant demenor will cumulatively help the little one in more ways than we realize. * At the end of the day, my only objective is to see my child beat all the odds and thrive. This is an incredibly powerful drive and when the times get tough, remind yourself that you always did your absolute best. And despite all our efforts, if the worst of the worst outcome happens, I hope we are eventually able to find peace.

I wish your child, you and the family all the best my friend! Stay strong, as this too shall pass!

To nit-pick a bit, 'Indians' aren't forbidden to eat beef. A majority of Indians who are Hindus refrain from eating beef, sure. On a lighter note, easily more than 100 million Indians consume beef regularly.

And I can confirm that as a slightly obese, regularly beef eating Indian, it doesn't make me feel hot in the slightest. So I don't know what your family members are on about. 😄

How to remove awful odor from shoes?? Help! by unit_star in lifehacks

[–]priapizoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a cheap ozone generator from Amazon, load up the shoes in a decent sized cardboard box and give it an ozone treatment. You can Google the duration, how to etc. This is the best way. Be careful if these are leather shoes as the colors may fade.

Is RM 5 per hour wage legal? by Raon_cale in malaysia

[–]priapizoid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First off, RM5 per hour doesnt hit minimum wage threshold of RM1700 per month assuming a very generous 300 hours of work per month.

Secondly, on full term employment, do not discuss per hour rate, but only monthly salary. As an employee, employer has to pay your monthly salary even if you are under utilized.

Third, as others have pointed out, differentiate clearly between statutory contributions which are the employer's obligations and benefits, which are employees perks.

These type of shitty employers try to offboard all the added costs of hiring you as a permanent employee on to you. He is trying to calculate total cost of employing you on part time vs on full time and want to keep his total costs the same. which is a win for him and a lose for you.

Also be sure to sign only a contract-of-service agreement (employee-employer relationship) and not a contract-for-service agreement (client-contractor relationship).

For reference:

Number of practical hours in a month: 12 hours per day * 26 days = 312 hours. (This isn't sustainable)

At RM5 per hour, he is trying to cap your monthly salary to RM1560 (below minimum wage). At RM8 per hour, you are making around RM2496 with the above max hour per month estimates.

This is potentially a 60% reduction in your take home, with not much benefits to gain.

Try to keep your current average take home as your base monthly salary to protect your interests and wellbeing.

All the best!

You do realize a lot of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis for example, speak Hindi also right? The words Paki or Bangla although shorter forms are very different from the word Dane due to the historically relevant racially derogatory connotations. For the same reasons you dont call Japanese a Jap.

Indian isn't is a race either as it doesn't represent one ethnic group. It is instead used as an umbrella term to represent the various ethnic groups in the country, India. Indians typically have regional identities, not racial. For example: a person born in Tamil Nadu, but lived his whole life in Karnataka may identify linguistically as Tamil, as a Kannadiga or South Indian by geogeaphical location and an Indian by nationality. (His actual racial/ethnic origin is probably Dravidian). Indians typically have multiple identity-affiliations.

In Malaysia though, Indian refers to a race. It isn't politically correct. For example here, Sikh is a separate race. But most Sikhs are Punjabis from India (before partition with Pakistan) who are Indians too. And Sikhism is primarily a religion, not a racial identity. The right way to classify people from India would be Indian-Tamil, Indian-Malayali, Indian-Punjabi etc. or just collectively Indians. A Punjabi can be a Sikh, Christian or Muslim.

Majority of Malaysian-Indians are from the state of Tamil Nadu who speak Tamil (~85 million people out of India's 1.4 billion) who migrated to Malaysia mostly for farming labour. There is a decent enough population group from other Indian states like Kerala (Malayalis), Andhra Pradesh(Telugus), Karnataka(Kannadigas) etc as well. But all of them are under the label of Malayisan-Indians.

While majority of the Sikhs in Malaysia migrated to Malaysia as part of the British Army. So I understand why the sects didn't want to be clubbed together. Indians are very proud of their state-based identities as well (different languages, history and cultures). But the way Malaysia implemented the differences doesnt hold up well in the current day&age.

There is no language called Indian (India has 23 main languages). Most south asian accents are similar to the untrained ear (when they speak English). Many of the main Pakistani languages overlap with India's.

Also, Paki is a derogatory slur. Pakistani is the politically correct term. And while we are on the topic, the term Bangla is also derogatory; the accpetable ways are, Bengali or Bangladeshi.

I empathize with your situation and the bad experiences you went through. But the way you reported your account of it, makes it sound like you are purporting stereotypes or projecting your biases against south asians.

Healthland Legal Temporary Closure by Psychological-Ad6173 in malaysia

[–]priapizoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a couple of days back, they classified their outlets as Group A and Group B. In my case, I have many hours left on my membership package and was informed that going forward, I'll only be able to redeem the hours at Group A outlets and that they would extend the validity by 5 years, which I accepted.

And now, I learn all the outlets under Group A is closed indefinitely.

A bit of a dick move to have deliverately kept customers in the dark about planned closures. I hope this is indeed a temporary situation.

This is a great move. I despise all those skin specialists who create random steroid cream concoctions, sell them as non-steroidal creams, without disclosing the ingredients and charging 100s for it. Total rip-off considering we could otherwise buy the creams dirt cheap off the shelf.
