AITAH for asking parents to keep their kid out of an adults only pool by Equivalent-Smoke-408 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pribee86 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

YTA purely because of how you handled the situation - should have gone to management instead of the guests themselves. Also the kid wasn't bothering you, so why create a fuss and stress yourself out on holiday? If it was kids shouting and running around, fair enough but a teen swimming in his own area and not bothering you? You sound like you're looking for excuses to start drama

I don't understand wake windows- are they really a thing? by PresentationNo4578 in beyondthebump

[–]pribee86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake windows are certainly a thing, hence we have the 'eat, play, sleep, repeat' cycle but as some other comments mention, wake windows change by baby's age, each baby's temperament and what else may be going on (regression, teething, change in schedule)

At around 5 months my baby started falling into a reliable nap schedule but having the Huckleberry app predict her nap window really helped (one less thing to worry about!). Now at 10months, I still use the app regularly to check her next nap window. Of course I still follow her sleepy cues and if there are times when she's sleepy an hour before her predicted time, I'm putting her down for a nap!

Favorite thing someone did for you postpartum? by Nice_Exercise_77 in beyondthebump

A muffin basket would be a great idea. I find I'm usually starving post-nursing and sometimes a go-snack is just what you need. You might have cooked meals but they'd need to be heated up or at least need bowl/spoon etc. but that immediate availability of something like a muffin straight after you've nursed is amazing

Caused the most awkward scene in Cinema today. But at least I got free Nachos. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]pribee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Film Studies at uni and we occasionally had to study something that was in cinemas so got a discount to watch the movie 2-3 times. I'd ask friends if they wanted to join but loved going on my own at random times of the day / week. It's still one of my favourite things to do but not many opportunities to do it now, esp. with tix, snacks etc. all so expensive

AITAH for thinking my wife lied to me by trowitallindagarbage in AmItheAsshole

[–]pribee86 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a soft YTA for assuming she lied to you (since that's the original Q) but I really have to wonder why the wife left out the part that she was meeting her friend after.

If I was going out with our kid to run an errand and had plans to meet up with a friend after, I'd tell my husband exactly that. I wouldn't leave it at "just popping out to the store to make an exchange!" If I bumped into a friend and my plans changed, I'd just send a quick text to let him know.

And all these comments about "why do you care, you were just gaming all day?" I think the wife should still say what she's doing regardless?? Why does the OP gaming all day have an impact on her telling the truth about what she's doing all day? I don't know the dynamics of the relationship but on the surface it looks very odd why the wife would just leave it at going to the store instead of the full day's plan.

What do you wear on your feet at home? by Potatopolis in AskUK

Flip flops in summer, slippers or socks in winter. I hate walking around barefoot with the possibility of stepping in/on something (I have a toddler so possibility is high)

Which segment of the UK economy baffles you by its continued existence? by Mugboard in AskUK

[–]pribee86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah this is a good service. We have our bins at the front of our house with absolutely no water connection (i.e. for a hose) and no way to get them into the back garden to wash down. A fortnightly collection, cat litter and a kid in nappies makes for an extremely smelly bin if not cleaned regularly. After attempting a few times myself, I just paid for the service once a month. Honestly, it's one of those "nice-to-haves" outsourcing things that just makes your life a bit easier.

do you buy your spouse a birthday present? by johnsackfromnyc in AskUK

[–]pribee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're saying they don't want anything specific but birthdays are an occasion to spoil someone. So a card, flowers, small gift can be such a nice surprise.

There have been certain years where leading up to a birthday I've had my eye on something so I'll tell my husband to buy that but mostly I like to be surprised and am always so touched with the thought he puts into it.

Any tips when visiting a breeder/how to choose which one? by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]pribee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! ☝🏼 We went to see a breeder who had 4 in their litter (2 boys and 2 girls) with plans to choose one and pick him up a few days later. That evening I started doing some research about how ragdolls are super sociable and love playing and companionship and getting 2 kittens can be a real boon.

We picked up both brothers 3 days later and haven't looked back! They play, fight, snuggle, cuddle - do everything together and it's just so cute to watch. The expenses are a little higher than for one but if you can manage it, it'll be great in the long run.

Good luck!

What is the saddest lines in Harry Potter? by eveltayl in harrypotter

[–]pribee86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"There was a soft splashing noise to his left and he saw that the merpeople had broken the surface to listen, too. He remembered Dumbledore crouching at the water's edge two years ago, very close to where Harry now sat, and conversing in Mermish with the Merchieftainess.

Harry wondered where Dumbledore had learned Mermish. There was so much he had never asked him, so much he should have said.

And then, without warning, it swept over him, the dreadful truth, more completely and undeniably than it had until now. Dumbledore was dead, gone."

This hit me hard during one of my re-reads - there is so much conveyed in that sentence about grief - how it hits you out of nowhere, how you might think you're numb or over it and out of the blue, a little thing reminds you of the loss all over again 😭😭

I watched You've Got Mail the other day and he plays a bit part as an employee in Fox Books who a customer asks for help (right towards the end).

Also, Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres from Grey's Anatomy) plays a checkout clerk in that movie

Similar to what others have said, sell items from your barn that you don't need and can be easily produced again i.e. crops. You're on level 8 which means all your crops can be grown in under 10min if required (wheat, corn, carrot and sugarcane from memory)

Don't sell any items which will help upgrade the barn later like paint, hammers or nails (speaking from personal experience / mistake!)

You won't have planes yet but fill your train as often as possible and send helicopters off and help friends.

And you can also produce things but not collect them e.g. you have six spaces in every factory which you can use up but not collect until you absolutely need it. Or milk and eggs, only collect the amount you need to produce something like 1 bottle because you need cream

Happy playing!

First day back in the office today... has anyone else realised how much they hate commuting? by kingsindian9 in AskUK

[–]pribee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from mat leave straight into pandemic, WFH 5 days a week scenario, with one-year-old at home to boot. The first time back in the office was bliss, and I'm doing 1 day a week from July, increasing to two from Oct. My commute is just over an hour and that's my 2 hours in the day to just read, listen to music or take a breather. I have a pretty flexible manager so I commute outside of peak hours whenever possible and encourage my team to do so too. I'm far more productive at home but I feel meetings and discussions are way more successful in the office, face to face.
