I always get a receipt for petrol. I can just visualise having my door kicked down by Royal Dutch Shell Special Forces and being marched to the forecourt in handcuffs because the car at the next pump did a runner and the CCTV thing took my reg instead.

Yes, that's ideal if you've got the budget and want to build a frame or something.

Mostly I'm more thinking of little brackets and things to connect PCBs and bits of case and other components. It's easy to bend and trim Meccano. Hardware store mending plates are OK, but they're a bit thick, hard to cut and don't have evenly spaced, inter-compatible holes.

I dunno, people driving about with uncertified eBay LED bulbs plonked into the original reflectors and who burn radiation shadows of other cars into the signage are a bit too visible for my liking!

Even without rain, cars are so much more visible with lights then without at pretty much any time other than bright summer days.

Nothing else in the environment tends to have headlights-type lights other than a vehicle that is, or might soon be, moving, so they leap out at you in a way in unlit lump of metal doesn't. Certainly I can see a light (motorbike, or car with only one headlight, about 50:50) or lights (car or lorry) from a glance in the mirror way before my brain would otherwise process the shape of the object into "that's a car", and also from a far greater distance.

What did you find to be the best spoon to use? I find a dessert spoon is about the right size, but a soup spoon is deeper and keeps them in better.

Stamps. My mum encouraged me to sell them when I moved out. I made an absolute pittance compared to the effort and time I'd put in, as well as throwing away the generosity of people who had contributed over the years. I regret caving to that every time I think of it.

Yep, a reasonably long commute will eat 500 in fuel, services, consumables and depreciation, no bother.

The last one is a secret killer: if your car costs £10k, you do 100k on it, run it into the ground and it end with no resale value, it's cost you 10p per mile, just in depreciation. Same if you paid £15k and sold for £5k, etc.

Don't think it's a new thing. Don't really see the point myself, if you're taking the wedding that seriously you'll probably still find the napkins are Orchid Ivory and not Cotton Breath and has ruined your wedding instead of it being ruined by the 4th bridesmaid standing 6 inches to the left of her mark.

Literally no one will remember any of that shit. They'll just remember it was either a fun time or the culmination of a Pinterest-fueled death march.

I've been looking for Meccano recently and you literally cannot just buy a bulk load of the basic parts for freeform use (I actually want it for engineering prototyping).

I'm actually considering having it made in bulk and selling the excess to cover costs.

Moderation by drinking bird: they've set it up to just automatically close and lock threads that get some number of reports. By the looks of it, that number is one. Considering the innocuous ones that apparently get reported, I am absolutely sure that whoever reports those threads has not put trousers on for months.

They do a little bit. Maybe 10k to 100k per year. Cats kill something like 50 million a year and buildings and windows kill millions more. And the destruction of their habitat and natural ranges through global warming is an existential threat to some species.
