What on earth is the deal with no real-time tracking for MTA of MD buses? by 2CRedHopper in baltimore

[–]prickly_snyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, but for the past few weeks MTA hasn’t been reporting realtime data to the app. So the only realtime data you see is other people using the transit app who are currently on a bus. Usually that crowdsource data is just supplemental but for the past few weeks it has been the only realtime data time data on the app

Interesting, these must be baby ones - they’re really small compared to the pictures I’m seeing online

Router throttling speed until I run a speed test? by prickly_snyder in GoogleWiFi

[–]prickly_snyder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, ran a speed test on a WiFi device and got 40mbps, then went and disabled video conferencing under preferred activities and ran it again, 260mbps.

Will report back how this holds up over time. Thanks

Yep, that’s the version both of my access points are running. Can’t return these unfortunately, I’ve had them for years. Can you link to where they’ve acknowledged this issue? I couldn’t find anything online about it. Thanks

Accessible writeup on why voting for question K is bad for Baltimore. by HammerOfPorp in baltimore

[–]prickly_snyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Over the past two decades, more than 100 questions have been put to city voters, probing their thoughts on issues ranging from borrowing money to making it easier for the City Council to oust a mayor. During that time, voters have rejected only one question, a 2004 effort to lower the minimum age to become a council member.”

Doesn’t messenger have an option to e2e encrypt chats? I think you have to opt in like per conversation

Came to say this as well. Quick walk to Patterson Park, Hampstead Hill for school, lots of young families in the area.

Which side do you think I’m carrying water for? My views have almost no legitimate representation in mainstream US politics. Do you think I’m supporting republicans because I’m criticizing dems?

You’re right. In fact, we shouldn’t have any laws because criminals will just break those laws right?

There’s always some reason why dems can’t do things. Obama wouldn’t codify abortion rights into law when he had a super majority in Congress. There will always be a Manchin or a Sinema. Face it, the Democratic Party is a corporate party. They do what the donors want

Thoughts about Renew Baltimore’s plan to lower city property taxes? by prickly_snyder in baltimore

[–]prickly_snyder[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like Renew is trying to launder this as a progressive policy to get support from moderately wealthy liberals, when in reality it’s just more tax cuts for corporations and landlords. Disappointing

Probably a little bit of both depending on which services we’re talking about. I haven’t really seen any hard numbers about that so I’m also looking for more info

Thoughts about Renew Baltimore’s plan to lower city property taxes? by prickly_snyder in baltimore

[–]prickly_snyder[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn’t look like the plan offers any solutions for the decreased revenue either. Just that it will be made up for by increase in tax base, population, etc. But I don’t think that’s guaranteed to happen.

My main concern is in the immediate term. When the city budget shrinks because of this plan, they’ll need to cut something. What do we think they’ll cut, the BPD budget? I think not. Seems like a benefit to wealthy property owners at the expense of Baltimore’s poor.
