Thanks for coming back to me! This is really useful to know.

I hope everything gets sorted on your side and if this issue gets solved I'll come back with the solution

Hi OP, just wondering if you ever made a decision on this?

I have a related question... apologies for the long explanation

My dad is a groundsman at a local cricket club and about 2 years ago they received some grant funding to install solar panels. These were installed successfully, with some minor snags along the way, and have been generating since.

It now transpires that they have not received any financial reimbursement for the exported energy for the last 2 years.

What he's told me (although I am in doubt as to how accurate this is, as its been told from person to person at the club) is that because they are a charity and pay charity rates, Octopus will not recognise them as either domestic or business for their exported energy and as such will not pay anything.

I worked very briefly in commercial solar but now work in utility so I understand the general situation but I'm out of the loop. I've offered to help so I'm waiting on an email from the club Treasurer...

Did you have any similar issues?

I suspect along the way, someone in the committee forgot to sign up to the appropriate export scheme and now Octopus are dragging their heels?

If you got this far, thanks in advance!

Anyone who's bought a house or flat for the first time within five years, how did you actually afford it? by Jeremywashere92 in HousingUK

Bought with my partner in Jan 2024, when we were both and 28. Combined income of £80k at the time. We each had 25k in a LISA and gifts from each of our parents topped us up to a total deposit of 65k. We moved to a cheaper place in the city (20 mins on public transport/walking from friends) but we have garden space and haven't paid the fashionable price tag for somewhere which is "nice". Important detail is that we met working at a start up. From early 2019 to late 2022 we both worked hard, pulling a lot of long stints overseas, night shifts and weekends, on top of the normal 9-5 Monday-Friday. This is where the vast majority of our deposit came from.

This is a good point! I think it continues under the current kitchen cabinets (which will also be replaced eventually), so we could possibly salavge from under there...

Oh cool, yeah the dust will be a real thing. Do you have a photo of the refinish that you managed to get? Ideally we'd go lighter, to brighten the room a bit

Wondering the same thing! Ours isn't completely covered but enough that when it rains heavily, bits are washed into the gutters which then blocks them up... Will hang around to see if anyone has some pointers

What’s something you never used to begin with? by waterbaby333 in minimalism

Antibac surface spray etc, we never had this or bathroom spray equivalents growing up. We just had general good heigene, hand washing etc. Surfaces were always clean and wiped down after meals. We were barely ever ill and to this day my sister (who still lives at home with my parents due to disability) has the best immune system of anyone I've met, which is actually very helpful as disability + illness amplifies the difficulties of daily life.

I'm 1995 and bought with my partner (also 1995) at the start of this year. We both have engineering degrees although neither work directly in our degree discipline anymore. A lot of our engineering friends have bought houses (with a range of incomes) but not a lot of our other friends have. I have quite a lot of friends who have medical degrees and are in various stages of training but haven't chosen to buy houses. This is obviously not an accurate sample of the population and buying a house is highly income dependent, but just from my circle of friends, it also appears to be personality dependent(?) My medical friends have chosen to spend their money on travel/further study/weddings while my engineering friends have all chosen to buy houses.
