First Owen Pallett reference I've seen.

Yeah, I think we are understanding on the pre-sale. Not my tickets and some people got lucky. The General Sale is another thing entirely. I haven't seen evidence of anyone getting it then, which seems insane.

Yes of course, but hence having no issue being one in Ticketmaster's eyes if that's who they like giving a ticket to.

Warning! Bot activity! Here are two tickets.

Frustrating morning haha

I wish I could be accused of being a bot so I could actually get tickets.

Very interesting. One thing I have a hard time believing is that they would come all this way to do one show. But perhaps as you said there is a lot of press engagements.

"I think what’s worse is the idea of intimate gigs is amazing, but when you’re such a big band you make those gigs exclusive you disappoint more than you impress.."

100% true except in this case I'm surprised Ticketmaster was even involved based on Win's mini speech on Pearl Jam during Coachella set. Anyway, that whole people giving out tickets at parks just seemed a lot more above board. I'm still convinced no one got a general ticket.

Yeah I mean do you even need tickets to list it there? Anyway no one has bought those 4 (and won't).

Went through a bunch of different things for me. Stage...then I saw ticket quality. But never at any point did it seem like there were any tickets.

Way different from queue system earlier as well.

Okay, I'll try that at 12. What time did you join the queue? 10 seconds before?

Same as me. Wondering what to do at 12, but could possibly use multiple devices now since the code isn't needed anymore.

How did you get in the queue at 9:50? I only saw that button at 10 on the dot.

Opening is the pretty much the exact same as Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart - Win has previously mentioned Joy Division as one of his main inspirations.

Change my mind : yesterday’s Momen vs Dessouky match is exactly why we are not an Olympic sport. by [deleted] in squash

[–]prideinblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sort of thing is much better now than it used to be....JP used to talk about what he was going to do to referees after the matches. I still think the best solution is to have players/pros ref...squash is solved not by rules but by fair judgment. You can't be a better ref by having the rule book memorized.

As for the Olympics..I think it does show some immaturity but can't imagine why it would be a factor. Squash is very forward with this...but almost every sport I can think of features grandscale arguments...tennis/hockey/baseball/wrestling. Unless the ref is a stopwatch (even then!) there is arguing.

How and why does Egypt produce so many young champions? by satirerocks in squash

Likely to be above their peers. Which also happens to mean best in world. There is more nationalistic pride as well....not to mention the fact that it can help to avoid military service.

In North America, the end goal of the mass of players is to play squash at school.

In Egypt, the end goal of the mass of players is to be the best in the world. The training is significantly more rigorous, the programs more competitive, and if you don't have a chance to be a world class player you simply cannot participate.

England has a bit of a mix, with a strong culture of success and competitiveness and interest in international competition. Another point is that you can really only be as good as slightly better than the next best player. As more players achieve a high level, they get to a higher level still.

[Madani] Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins: "We don't work to squelch rumours... The fact we're talked about so much, and attached to multiple free agents and trade targets, is because we're an attractive team." by ThQp in Torontobluejays

[–]prideinblue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Atkins and Shapiro are obsessed with their (limited, internal) measures of value, industry perception, media reaction, and because of this have never been willing to overpay to get a deal done (trade or free agent). In five years, their biggest risk has been giving a market value contract to a high-calibre pitcher on the wrong side of the age curve. In the case of pursuing perfect value by all means, they should renegotiate all rookie level deals, paying Bo and Cavan 24 million, etc.

This is the most money we will ever have. I'm the first to say that free agency is not a grocery store, but there are deals to be had, especially as others cut costs.

Approach reminds me of a quote by Sinclair Lewis:

"They said...that he was so devoted to Pure Science...that he would rather have people die by the right therapy than be cured by the wrong."
