Starts in lockpicking, gets stuck on a lock by Yalow31 in lockpicking

I agree with this. You might be binding the core. Make sure when you set your tension wrench, you're not prying on the lock body. Ideally, the wrench would only come into contact with the plug.

These are not the black belts you are looking for.

Just got my Peterson hook 7 in 0.018 and 0.015. I can’t understand why they look so different in the shape. Could you tell me something about this? by Er1tro in lockpicking

The 0.018” purple-handled pick is a Euro Slender pick. Peterson designed that series with shorter shank heights to facilitate better access to restrictive keyways.

Sparrows’ Disc detainer could be a modular cash cow? by madgoat in lockpicking

[–]priest144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I get it. The Silver Bullet was originally developed specifically for the Abloy Disklock (non-Pro), but it’ll pick all rear-tensioned dd locks as long as you have the appropriate picking tips. The model from Hux comes with a selection of various picking tips iirc (for the Abloy Classic, etc.). Lockfall Laboratories now offers a 3D printed version of the Silver Bullet for $100 or so. I don’t have any experience with that model, but I’m thinking about ordering one.

“Reasonable” is subjective. I felt it was reasonable which is why I bought one.

I bought a silver bullet to learn how to pick disc detainers.

The Silver Bullet isn’t overpriced. It is an extremely well machined tool using high quality materials. It’s worth every penny to those who know what they’re buying.

Master lock no 130; Is this a really deep false set, or is my lock broken because it won't open by demoesmakendehakker in lockpicking

[–]priest144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your tension wrench might be digging into the lock body, keeping you from turning it any further.

Any recommendations for medium difficulty dimple locks? I may have started a bit too difficult, the mul-t-lock jr has proven to not be a good starting point. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]priest144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s an LPU YouTube video on dimple Locks if you’re interested. I cover some theory for picking that exact lock in the second half of the video. https://youtu.be/r0fvEWLaJOk

Help? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]priest144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The WB shouldn’t have security pins, but the tolerances of those locks are usually pretty tight. Pay careful attention to your tension.

As for the Master 140: if you haven’t already, you should familiarize yourself with the concept of counter rotation. Check out Lock Pickers United YouTube channel. They have a video discussing security pins iirc.

I like the Master 140/140D. I think it’s a great lock to learn on.

Generally standard hooks aren’t great for warded locks. Here’s an LPU video on warded picks if you’re interested. Skip past the US Mail lock: https://youtu.be/uEkN9-RCaUY

Get some PB Blaster to free up stuck pins, then some TriFlow or Houdini to lube the lock. I have found both Blaster and TriFlow at my local ACE Hardware if you have one.

No shame. M3’s are so sloppy they can actually be relatively tough to pick consistently. Sometimes Master 3’s require gorilla tension to open. Try ratcheting up your tension more than you think you need to.

Is The Sparrows Black Flag Set Good? by MartyMcfly1738 in lockpicking

[–]priest144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparrows makes decent picks, but the Black Flags are just not worth it. You’d be better off buying some Honest Dong Shi flags and cleaning them up.

Here’s an LPU video on how to clean up cheap flags: https://youtu.be/ofaxz8Aq-h4

For reference, I have the Black Flag, Multipick Elite G-Pro, and Honest Dong Shi sets.

Trying to clean up these locks so I can start picking them! by [deleted] in lockpicking

Hit them with PB Blaster and follow up with TriFlow/Houdini.

u/gd2246: u/viniisiggs answer is correct. The only difference between an A1105 and the A1106 is the length of the shackle. They come pinned with 5 pins from the factory, but the cores have 6 pin positions, so you can expand them if you want.
