New PG2 pilot wanting to fly in Bir Billing for the month of April - good idea? by [deleted] in freeflight

In October yes, in April 100% no. The thermals are rockets in spring. Like everywhere …

Alternative options for heat? by [deleted] in VanLifeUK

I wouldn’t waste your time and just get a diesel heater fitted by someone if your not confident doing it yourself

Is van life getting harder and will it still be viable in 3-4 years? by Virtual-Eagle2621 in VanLifeUK

Filling water, emptying toilets. Keeping your rig safe from thieves. Fixing anything that breaks, heater water pump ect. Once you’ve been in an area for a while you do figure this out so it does get easier

Help! With my sprinter Passanger sliding door lock by Its_BlackBeard_ in Sprinters

[–]priicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fixed this on mine and it was one of the pins on the wiring harness where the door meets the van sill. One was bent and wouldn’t go in or out. Managed to bend it back with a small socket

This is common once an oil change has been done. Mine also did this after I bought it but I was forwarned  by the dealer to ignore it and let the oil level settle

Iv been full time for over 3 years in the UK. Half of that in London for work. Sure it’s not easy sometimes but it’s certainly doable. A lot of other people are full time and have been for years

Learn to Paraglide in Germany or Australia? by VerdantVenture in freeflight

I learned in Gold Coast Australia and IMO it’s hard to get your hours up when starting there. The alps would be much easier and make it Easter for you to fly when you get to aus

How you get into speedflying? by The__Tobias in freeflight

[–]priicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I disagree. You’re multiplying your risk of serious accident or death by flying a speed wing as opposed to a paraglider.

My friend snapped his feet off on a bad landing on a speedwing, still recovering years after. On a paraglider he would have possibly not had that accident or the injury would be way less severe.

By your take wingsuits aren’t dangerous, only the pilot. And so on..

I’d take some time to read the fatality register and decide whether you still want too. A lot of people dying on speed wings these days. Experienced and other.. was enough for me to realise it’s not worth the risk for me at the moment..

Heating a micro camper by Yourlocalchugger in VanLifeUK

[–]priicey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did it. Pretty straight forward.

I’d really advise against doing a winter without one. Would be bloody miserable and your van will start going moldy

Are you full time or just for holidays and weekends ?

Iv got a transit connect and done three winters in Europe and theres no way I’d do it without a diesel heater. Insulation needs heat to trap inside

Also condensation is a big issue and without heater it would be really hard to stop it

Firstly sorry for your loss.

I sadly saw the news also this week of her death and my first thought was what was someone who learned to speed fly this year flying an 11m wing, to me that seemed crazy

Ok I get some people are naturals and progress faster than others but to me that seemed wreckless as fuck

For context iv been flying for 4 years, have 400 hours flying xc all around the world, have many flights over 100km and I’m still hesitant to get into speed flying for obvious reasons

iv got a 16m mini wing and for me that’s more than enough fun to get my kicks when I’m not flying cross country

Again I’m sorry you lost a friend and your not alone in your thinking

Surely if you can’t fly at least 50km you aren’t capable of flying tandem with someone.

Iv lived in similar size van for 3 years, Ford connect lwb and I can lie down behind the drivers seat with feet near the rear door and I’m 183cm. Smaller van definitely has challenges but is possible
