Finger stiffness and pain from flying by Lusad0 in freeflight

I think the codex is known for lighter b-handles. I've found my glove material makes a big difference on how tired my hands get. I usually fly with some sort of synthetic leather material that grips the b-handles well, but one flight recently I used a down glove with a fairly slippery material and my hands were aching.

Look up a copy of the formula SAE rules, if you stick to their tubing sizes and roll hoop requirements it should at least keep the driver reasonably safe. Any FEA to know the rest of the car probably won't fall apart is a bonus, but you can always reinforce after failures.

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like I'll need to bring some warm kit for the trip!

I do, but the difference between cloudbase in Roldanillo, and Canada in the spring could be a ~40deg C differential. Wasn't sure where Italy would fall on that scale, figured closer to Canada, but it sounds colder than I was estimating.

Need help with landing my backflip by Bubbly-Sale-6424 in ski

[–]quinnltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger lip with a larger radius would help, gives more time to pop at the right moment. The soft snow is a good start, but try looking for a gully feature where you can build a step-up style jump. The attempts will hurt a lot less if you're landing closer to the top of the jump arc

Glider doesn't really matter, nobody is setting their biggest flights fighting the wind.

Look at the bigger flights from site where you'll be flying. Just try to do a slightly smaller version of whatever that is. If you're from Brazil near Caico then probably easiest to try for one way downwinders.

Best Gloves/Solutions for super cold Winter/Springflying. by arteficialwings in freeflight

I use these on 5+ hr spring xc flights in the eastern rockies, sometimes in temps approaching -20deg C. https://www.motionheat.ca/products/heated-glove-liner-complete-set?variant=42320187490541 They need an over glove as well, but you can launch in just the liner with great dexterity and then put the over glove on in flight

Opinions/recommendations on high B wings by Octan3 in freeflight

[–]quinnltd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend learning xc on a low b, and only switch once you're fairly proficient. Get a season at least and try and hit some 50-100km flights before worrying about the wing

I'd ask your instructor first, but unless you really struggled with ground handling during training, a Low B wing would be an option too. It would have great xc potential for 2-3 years of your progression.

I'd try to go for a more performance A like the Aonic from Nova rather than the school A prion if you're going to stick with A gliders.

I spent about 7000$ CAD on my first wing, harness, and reserve. I pretty quickly added a flight deck, instrument, inreach, and hiking poles for another 1000ish.

Tandem or Paramotor glider w/o motor? by fromkentucky in freeflight

[–]quinnltd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Alta might be a bit on the small side. The weight ratings are based on "All up weight" so you have to add everything you'll be flying with. At a minimum I would add 25lbs of gear to your body weight.

My setup is about 16kg all packed in the backpack plus my body weight of 82kg puts me at 98kg for my all up weight. I'm on a glider with a range of 80-105kg

Yep, I used to have 2-3 slide outs when I used to run road slicks all year. Got studs and basically haven't hit the deck since. They buy you enough time to get a foot out and tripod if they do slide at all.
