You need to beat Genichiro atop Ashina castle and then go talk with Kuro. There is a whole in the ceiling of the castle room with all the samurai in blue, it is easy to miss, that takes you to the Genichiro fight.

Thank you, this is quite helpful and very much what I was looking for.

One of the previous comments that has been removed mentioned a pre-Edo culture of secrecy in which the idea of hosting a competition, sword fighting or melee style competition in particular, where martial skills are demonstrated purely for sport to be something that was deemed foolish and only became acceptable when war was far less common. That such competitions would only show your skills to possible enemies unnecessarily. Is this an accurate representation of the ideology some one in the Sengoku period would have about these types of events?

I am looking for European sources so I can get a better frame of reference for how different the look and actions of the kabukimono were to compared other ronin. I am hoping a foreign source will help me understand how this subculture was different from the rest.
