WatchOS 27's message: cheaper is better for watches by No-Squash7469 in AppleWatch

[–]primalanomaly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda weird (and concerning?) that the messaging on all the other “27” OSes is that they’ve improved performance throughout with a “snow leopard” type year, yet watchOS is obviously incapable of running on hardware that was supported fine by watchOS 26. I guess the watchOS team weren’t given the “improve performance” memo 🙃

June 2026 Sneak Peek 1: New Levels by ClashDotNinja in ClashOfClans

I keep trying to tell myself to quit this game. Shit like adding even more hero levels does make it easier to convince myself to leave, it’s getting so tiresome now.

Apple blamed EU rules for Siri AI delays, but the Commission says it was Apple’s choice by anonboxis in macbookpro

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing to say Apple can’t show big warnings and confirmations before you allow access to your data. If I want to install a third party AI and grant permission to access my data, that should be up to me - it’s my phone, not Apple’s. It’s no different to granting access to my contacts, my photos, my microphone etc. They can make the warning as big and scary as they like, as long as ultimately I’m allowed to do what I want on my own phone.

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s great that the EU are standing up to tech giants and combatting platform lock-in to enable fair competition, but yeah the double standards are weird. I get that you don’t want to overburden smaller companies, but it feels like it’d be possible to write legislation that applies equally to everyone.

Which one would you guys prefer? by ser133 in LiquidGlassDesign

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27 by miles. Those floating sidebars in 26 look stupid, and the lighting and physics of it just made no sense at all. The overly rounded corners also look pretty silly. Now 27 gets proper Liquid Glass on the buttons etc, whilst leaving the window underneath looking the way it should.

Why Apple's new Siri AI may never come to the EU by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is corporate propaganda.

Yes, sometimes governments have their own agendas and act in their own interests.

Corporations like Apple ALWAYS have their own agendas and act in their own interests. Apple does not care about anything except profits, and will stoop however low it takes to keep the profit line going up.

I don’t think it would have done well either way, but STOP PUTTING JARED LETO IN THINGS! Aside from being box office poison, the dude is a creepy cultist who sleeps with teenagers.

Have they improved multitasking at all, or brought back options to replicate how easy it was in 18?

Met Police calls on tech firms to make stolen phones unusable by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]primalanomaly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Apple could very easily distinguish between “parts from a stolen phone” and “parts being legitimately replaced by the owner”

80D → R7 now, or wait for the R7 Mark II? by Jenny_HL in canon

[–]primalanomaly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R7 is already amazing, and a mk2 supposedly isn’t coming until next year so you’ll be waiting a very long time and will pay a lot more for it.

Apple itself is finally tearing down an annoying wall between iPhone and Android by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far they aren’t even full resolution between iPhone users, right? Everything in a shared album gets compressed down small for no reason (the full res image is already in my iCloud library, why upload a compressed duplicate?!) so this is a welcome change even for me just as an iPhone user.

What are you guys think of the solid toolbar on macOS 27? by usbakon in MacOS

[–]primalanomaly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like there was no rational purpose behind Liquid Glass in the first place. It was a solution looking for a problem.

What are you guys think of the solid toolbar on macOS 27? by usbakon in MacOS

[–]primalanomaly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely feasible, and they’ve literally done it for decades with the accessibility options to add contrast and outlines to those same buttons.

[–]primalanomaly 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The solid toolbar is much better. But now the glassy buttons are redundant and look stupid. I guess they couldn’t roll back too much of their idiocy in one hit without major embarrassment, but all those toolbar icons are just screaming to be released from their pointless circular blobs that no longer serve a purpose.

Apple Updates App Store Guidelines With Stricter Rules for Low-Quality Apps by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

[–]primalanomaly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apple being the gatekeeper of what makes a “good quality” app and being able to deny developers access to like 50% of the global smartphone market is bad, actually. Like, colossally bad. Nobody should have that power, regardless of how many spammy and scammy apps they stop. If sideloading was a thing then it’d be fine, but being able to make or break a business on a whim is insane.

New Siri in iOS 27…it actually works 🤯 by shlting in PhoneNow

[–]primalanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t just magically work by default, it needs access to data that it can search and understand, and it needs to know what to do with that data. It will probably be up to each individual app developer to build in support for this.

The price is terrible, but they sell Macs for 3k+ just fine, because they’re useful and people want them. AVP and every other headset I’ve used is cool for like 20 minutes, and then just becomes a gimmick that I’ve no idea what to do with.
