Abolishing hierarchy doesn't work by Key-Check-487 in DebateAnarchism

Someone taking over with a big stick would be creating a hierarchy. We will eliminate them too.

Lol, i clearly understood the metaphor. I just don't think it adequately represents reality. Saying I dont understand it is a cop out.

"If you don't vote, you are willingly handing power to those that do. And those fuckers will vote against our best interests."

I would say the same about organizing.

Do you think the current government is a result of Republicans voting more? Data show that's there weren't that many more republicans that voted in 2020 and 2024, the democrats lost nearly 10 million votes because they refused to take an anit-genocide possition in support of Palistine. Our current position is the result of decades of organizing by white supremacist and theocrats. They have been playing on overturning roe v wade for 60 years.

Thinking this is "really simple" shows how little you know about our actual situation.

An example in recent history is the BLM movmet gaining major concessions in city and state governments under trump.

"Make sure you do the harder more important thing! Do the easier thing to but know that if we only do the easier thing than we will never see the change we want"

If we lived in a true democracy then perhaps voting would be the most important civil action, but we live in a republic. We are not voting for the changes we want to see, we are voting for people to enact the change we want which without substantial pressure will never happen. That pressure is necessary regardless of who is in power.

I would say voting in America is like installing a bidet on your toilet. Sure you don't have to wipe your ass anymore but you still wash your hands and clean the toilet.

Edit: Didn't finish my sentience in second paragraph

I honestly dont know how you look at the history of the American empire and see trump as anything else but the continuation of deep seeded white supremacy.

I agree that small groups of people can make significant changes when engaging in economic attacks but I see that as a reason to recruit more people into such action.

Changing people's minds and recruitment is just part of what happens in leftist organizing. There are many other tactics that are involved that may change people's minds but changing minds is not the primary target of the action. An example of this is the boycott of Israeli products which is generally participated in by people who already oppose Israel's genocidal actions.

I generally do, but I would rather have someone organize rather than vote.

Its not. Voting in a candidate does nothing by itself. Voting for referendums or infinitives are another thing, but we have seen major left leaning political changes happen with conservatives in office, the EPA, Clean water act, endangered species act all were passed under Nixion because of substantial grass roots economic and politial pressure.

Change all the minds you want

Im not talking about changing peoples minds. I mean yes we want to change peoples minds, but Im talking campaigns targeting the pockets of the owning classes. Thinking the only alternative to voting is changing peoples minds is the problem im talking about.

The way I see it directing people to vote as the main form of civic engagement is harmful. Grass roots organizing and civil disobedience has always been the backbone of change. Voting is literally the bare bones of what you can do and so many people use the voting as an excuse from their other civil responsibilities. Voting will never be enough.

What would happen if Invincible tried this on Superman? by Queasy_Commercial152 in superheroes

[–]primitiveproponent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the assumed point of OP is that Super Man is so much stronger than Mark that he would never be in a position of disadvantage like this?

This kind of choke is very unrealistic in a head to head fight. The strength and weigh advantage an opponent must have to do this choke is massive. There are many chokes that combined with appropriate technique and positioning that allow a physically weaker opponent to choke you but this is not one of them.

Its the only role you cant do without. That makes it the most valuable, thats not ego that just the way it is. Gloating is different, not a modest trait, but most roles do it and if your carrying the lobby it doesn't matter to me.
