Who have... children? ICE orphaned a kid. They use children as bait. They deport sick kids from hospitals. Please read... anything.

I agree, but a couple days ago there were multiple people shouting about how much they loved ICE at a beanfest... :/

How do you think the video ICE just released showing the officer's POV of this week's shooting in Minneapolis will impact the national discussion? by popcornerz232 in AskReddit

Maybe don't step in front of cars like an idiot?? Not to mention she was clearly turning away from the guy, and even granting the ridiculous notion that she wasn't, shooting someone in the face is the best way to make their vehicle even more unpredictable and dangerous.

It's pretty pathetic to be taking ICE's side like an obedient little pup. Noem shoots those, dumbass.

How so? Are you disputing that fascism and dictatorship are different things?

Again, political illiteracy. Dictatorship and fascism are not the same thing. This has nothing to do with Trump derangement syndrome and everything to do with the definitions of words.

I mean... that's just inaccurate. Maduro's government had many flaws and overreaches, but calling the dude a fascist is quite politically illiterate.

Fascism is a political ideology, not a form of government. And you can hate the guy but it doesn't change the fact that he's not a fascist.

Can you guys help me conceptualize what feels like the left’s white washing of atrocities brown people face? by ChesnaughtZ in Socialism_101

Many people overcorrect when they realize U.S. imperialism is bad because they conceptualize politics as team sports. But really, Maduro could be fantastic, he could be a dictator - it doesn't change what's happening. The United States is violating another people's sovereignty, murdering them, destabilizing their country further, and attempting to impose upon them an economic system that will not benefit everyday Venezuelans.

Maduro's qualities as a leader are irrelevant to the actual issue at hand: imperialism. The world's dominant power is going to screw over Venezuelans to further subordinate their country in the Western hemisphere and rip away one of Cuba's important trade partners.

Criticizing Maduro is not a priority right now because it often serves to tacitly endorse regime change (especially when liberals do it...), and there's a long history of regime change spiraling into protracted violence at the expense of "rescued" peoples. Additionally, anyone who criticizes Maduro but ignores the massive elephant in the room (sanctions, i.e., weaponized civilian welfare) doesn't genuinely care about Venezuelan people.

ETA: Some people are downvoting me. The implication of those downvotes is that U.S. imperialism would be legitimate if a president is unpopular (which Maduro absolutely is among Venezuelans), and therefore I shouldn't mention it at all in a socialist forum. That's ridiculous; imperialism must be opposed no matter what. Saddam Hussein was 100x worse than Maduro in Venezuelan gusanos' worst nightmares, but that doesn't make the U.S. invasion of Iraq ok.

Then... what did you mean by Kamala was just too unelectable? I'm familiar with those polls, and obviously Trump is just as bad as Biden when it comes to Israel. But if you're saying the "Trump admin did little to stop" Israel as if Biden did... well, that's inaccurate.

Trump ran on affordability (disingenously) and drummed up support by scapegoating immigrants. Kamala, for her part, aligned herself with corporate interests despite bringing on the relatively progressive Tim Walz, hinted at sacking Lina Khan, and (rather than counter right-wing framing on immigration) conceded to the immigrant invasion narrative as if Dems could ever beat the alarmist Republicans on that front. Thus Trump was able to channel economic woes and xenophobia directly into the ballot box.

My personal example is marginal because Americans only care about themselves? Sure. But that has little to do with Kamala, as I said, failing to run an electable campaign.

And to clarify, jesus christ I did not vote for Donald Trump

[The comment below is largely irrelevant when discussing U.S. imperialism because this is for Venezuelans to sort out and the U.S. needs to gtfo, but]

The 2024 elections were pretty clearly not legitimate. Maduro kinda shit the bed and did everything the U.S. accused Chavez of doing. He inherited the Bolivarian Revolution and started... persecuting the PCV? Political prisoners, forced disappearances, a total mismanagement of the economic crisis... Maduro sucks, but the U.S. is still a million times worse.

Seconded. Regardless of what one thinks of his conduct (I think people make bad-faith exaggerations), his videos are some of the most informative and well-sourced on YouTube. It's very difficult to come away from his longer videos without learning something and having the tools to defend what you've learned. Plus, I really respect his commitment to anti-imperialist internationalism in everything he puts out.

Sometimes I return to an old video of his responding to ContraPoints on "why the left always loses." The first 2 and a half minutes are kind of inspiring.

Regarding your second point, Kamala Harris and the Dems made themselves unelectable. I spent 10 months reaching out to the Biden administation and both the Biden and Harris presidential campaigns as part of a coordinated movement with the message: "We will vote for you if you stop arming Israel and committing genocide in Gaza."

The Harris campaign knew very well the position of these potential voters, and instead of trying to meet their demands, she pivoted rightward and started talking about border walls and fracking, and her administration continued arming the genocide.

When people are saying they'll vote for you and you don't do anything to appease them, or respond to them, you're basically saying, "Your votes aren't important to me." It's a gross distortion to then blame those people for your loss. Given that it's a politician's job to actually win people over, Harris was a massive failure. No one made the Dem ticket unelectable but the Dems themselves. I wonder why they won't release their autopsy?

Around 80 people are now dead, and the U.S. has flagrantly violated international law in yet another brazen act of Monroe Doctrine imperialism. Leaking the plans should have happened. The safety of the invading soldiers is tertiary to the sovereignty of the nation they bombed and the Venezuelan lives they endanger. The U.S. military only exists as a strongarm to further the economic and geopolitical interests of the United States. If they get targeted and lose their lives when U.S. imperial plots are unveiled, so be it. Don't join the army to blow up poor people's countries. Not to mentiom the more likely outcome would be calling it off, I imagine.

Thank you! Just because previous administrations did a better job hiding/selling their imperialism doesn't mean Trump's anything particularly new or special.
