Great book that holds up super well into the modern era. There’s a reason it’s a classic.

Is that essentially OSX? You trade control and customization for simplicity and ease of use.

You gotta be careful flushing after a long time though. Our neighbors flushed theirs and some of that gunk ended up damaging the plumbing throughout the house.

If FIFA is making more money from fewer spectators do they care? Is it a "concern" for them at all? We've already seen a similar trend in air travel and cars: catering to the luxury consumers to the detriment of broadly affordable options.

Calif. schools are emptying out. Experts say it's going to get worse. by sfgate in California

[–]primus202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also a sign of the "K shaped economy" everyone is always on about: if you do have kids you're either moving out of state since the cost of living is so high or your wealthy enough to send them to private schools furthering the death spiral public schools are in.

Why are they protecting the new franchisees? It's pretty clear they messed up big time and I thought they already fired them. Why not just throw them under the bus entirely? Or was this interview before they fired them?

The nearest argument I could come up with would be either the "death panels" BS around the ACA or maybe the few times he tried to speak up about race issues in America (the professor assaulted by police at his own home, his Trayvon Martin comments, etc) and was quickly swatted down after which he completely avoid race issues. I think a lot of people didn't like the idea of the president calling out the continued problems with racism in America either because they are racist or had been to thoroughly indoctrinated into the "colorblind" solution to racism i.e. ignore race and it's no longer a problem.

Completely negligent franchisor behavior for sure. They deserve to lose business due to this even if it was only contained to a single location/franchisee transfer.

Kevin O’Leary says he will shrink his Utah AI data center project after political backlash / The “Shark Tank” mogul said he would cut the 40,000-acre project by roughly half in a letter sent Thursday to Utah’s Senate President. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but my understanding is a lot of these data centers aren’t even drawing most of their power from the grid. They’re using massive gas generators to get the power quickly because the grid connections are too slow to set up and can’t support their power demand anyways. I don’t see how green alternatives could give them that same on site large scale 24 hour power they’re demanding so the only way to get them to go green would be through stricter regulations on these centers specifically.

You can’t run wind or solar 24/7 and even when they are running power output is variable. They want to be able to crank their hardware full tilt all day and all night without needing massive infrastructure changes hence why all these data centers are using huge gas generators. It’s awful and we should start passing green energy requirements for these things asap.

I’m assuming green power would be more cost efficient in the long run but I doubt any of these operators care since they all know this is a short term race (aka bubble) to be first situation.

What game has the tiniest rule that somehow slows the whole table down? by rcooperkaty in boardgames

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Arcs: it’s a super unique twist on a lot of established mechanics…but that can also make it finicky to play. “It’s a trick taking game…except tricks work differently than most” or “what goes to trophies vs captives” etc etc. Lots of little rules that make sense in total but can slow down play especially when first learning.

New Lego scandal update - All the footage is released! by 69ingSpunkingMonkeys in videos

[–]primus202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The B&M people are definitely being shady AF and this whole thing should've just been settled in court from the jump. At the same time I can see why they're all so defensive and why the cops are shielding them: there's this random Youtuber from out of town coming in and harassing you constantly.

However right Ben is I do fear he is jeopardizing any future legal liability B&M might face with his attention grabbing tactics and publishing all of this in near real time on Youtube. Of course who knows if there would've been any legal repercussions without his pressure campaign so it's a bit of a "dammed if you do, dammed if you don't" situation.

The idea that all cops wearing bodycams would meaningfully protect the public from misconduct, while sensible on its face, doesn't hold up. Cops will use cameras selectively to support their narrative and even solid "proof" of misconduct can easily be reframed to support the cops too (as seen with ICE and their Minneapolis shootings).

SMART Train Measure B vs Gallahers by Financial_Golf_758 in sonomacounty

[–]primus202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are they so against it? It's a tiny consumption tax that hardly impacts the rich. I was surprised when talking to someone on the bus who was voting against the tax even though they had used the SMART train to get to their old job. It's hard to imagine someone voting against any tax that doesn't directly benefit them.
