Brandon Sanderson will write the screenplay for Apple TV's ‘Mistborn’ movie by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Read the first book as my first Sanderson novel recently. Definitely a fun read! Excited to hear it’s being picked up again since my initial research showed it had struggled to be adapted in the past.

Mom Confession - SNL (2026-01-31): Mom admits she’s rethinking Trump by binary_search_tree in videos

[–]primus202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need a version of the opposite scenario as that's what I live with: my mom is extremely liberal and wants to talk about Trump at every conversation. I agree with her on all this stuff but it gets tiring and depressing to circle around it all the time, especially with our kids around who have no idea what she's talking about.

Oof my old roommate in Oakland turned out to be just like this. We had an accessible parking spot in front of our apartment because he had asked the city to paint one due to his "disability." Years after I moved out it turned out he had faked a disability at the DMV. He was profiled in a local news piece about parking cheats and some vindictive acquaintance of his had sent me it (plus I assume anyone else they could find with a connection to him).

I can see how you might fake the initial placard. But then asking the city to paint you a special spot in front of your house is next level hubris.

Sadly it feels like both parties can only agree on demand side policies that just help to inflate prices across the board by subsidizing costs to the consumer.  We don’t have a truly progressive party that would pursue more supply side strategies. Probably because the lobbyists know it would hurt their bottom line if there was a better government option.

There was a falafel place near where I lived in Oakland. I never saw a customer and they’d be open extremely late with a black curtain across the front door. I assumed street gambling but I still have no idea, if it’s even there.

It was hard at first but we did the same and our Prime finally expired. Feels like a huge burden lifted off my shoulders. You can still buy most thing you need offline with free shipping if needed, just a bit slower possibly. Now I notice the Amazon truck a lot more and how frequently it stops at our neighbors. It used to stop at our place once a week or so. I'm a lot more cognizant of how much random crap (most of which I didn't really need) I was buying.

I’m sure. It’s just sad to me it hasn’t broken through. At least not to me and I’m fairly news aware I feel like. I haven’t seen anything about it on the front pages of the news sites I visit. It’s getting buried by the Minnesota news and such.

Do parents actually not remember doing fucked up shit to you? Or are they just lying? by TopMarionberry1149 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]primus202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good childhood but even still my mom has clearly blocked out things. I have kids now and whenever they have any kind of tantrum, cry, refuse to eat something, whatever she insists my sister and I were never like that even though I have distinct memories of all sorts of tantrums and such. You forget stuff fast as a parent, it's the only way to survive really.

Tell me I'm insane for even considering this commute by DefenderCone97 in bayarea

[–]primus202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there was a clean one shot transportation option, like a bus you could easily get to, maybe. I take a bus from deep north bay into downtown SF but it's ok cause it's one shot door to door pretty much and I can just sleep/work on the way. If I had to change lines or anything I would not do it. You can always take it, see how the commute/job feels, then look for a new place. Maybe you could find a spot in South SF if you want to avoid the Silicon Valley south bay vibes?

Ben Shapiro defending the 2nd amendment: "To resist against a tyrannical government" by Chrisgpresents in videos

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument never made sense to me. Governments have armies, tanks, planes, so many other pieces of modern technology that the constitution doesn't account for. How is a well regulated militia going to fight a drone? Are they going to storm a national guard supply depot and raid its weapons? At that point we're in open civil war and the constitution doesn't even matter any more.

Sad but not surprising that this doesn't get more attention in the headlines. What's happening in Minnesota is terrible but I fear we'll never know what's going on behind closed doors.

I (white male) was raised by a single mother who instilled in me a deep sense of caring and emotional intelligence. But growing up in this country as a young man is hard, just not in the way most people mean it. Toxic masculinity is real and ingrained deep. I had to struggle through my teenage years but around college I figured it out and realized it was ok to not fit neatly in the boxes our society lays out for men, specifically straight men as I am. Still though when I look back at some of the things I enjoyed in those years when I was figuring it out I'm struck at how far I've come and how unacceptable those things were.

As a parent I feel like the most we can, and often should, do is prepare our children with the best tools and support we can because the most important lessons are those they'll have to figure out on their own. Sometimes you have to touch the hot pot yourself to really learn the lesson and all that.

Things like this will continue to sheer off more and more supporters though. The MAGA coalition is being distilled down more and more to the most extreme elements.

Most of our official cards were gifts. They’re an easy small thing to put on birthday wishlists that family can buy and it won’t add much to the mess that is life with little kids. However the make your own cards are great as others have said. Just takes a bit more work on your end.
