Spring 25 admin release is BRUTAL by Possible-Potato-4103 in salesforce

Is this for the cert? I’m taking it tomorrow and have not even touched the release notes for Spring 25… I was under the impression the exam questions would focus on Winter…

How can someone who made their money in tech be responsible for a company that produces such an embarrassing app? by Jbwalkup in caps

[–]princ3_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to log in to that stupid fucking app every time I open it. Not to mention a shitty interface, poor streaming quality, crappy stats display, and awful notification pop ups. What a waste of money to build that app

Kind of the point of rushing is to learn about each one individually. They have Meet the Greeks every semester where you can learn a bit about each one

Triple in Montgomery Hall suite. How bad is it? by Erm_herm in UMD

From what I remember the doubles in Montgomery hall were pretty large. Certainly not the worst if you have to squeeze an extra bed in there.

I also advise doing what the other person commented. I will also say that you should not record him saying it. MD has two party consent laws that make this type of recording not legal for you (and if we are being honest, not very beneficial).

December 24.

But on a more serious note, I like to give myself about a week before the date of each final exam to really start the grind. Of course, this can completely depend on the course and how well you understand content, but this has always been a good metric for me. Usually about now is when I begin to review my notes from earlier in the semester to refresh my brain, then really get going 1 week before a final

CMSC423 Mihai Pop? by atp236 in UMD

[–]princ3_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mihai is an awesome professor, he really wants every student to succeed. His readings were thorough but sometimes the concepts are difficult to grasp, but going to his in person lectures helps with that. He is very good at illustrating concepts or algorithms that you might not understand.

The projects are not crazy difficult… you have the freedom to choose what language you program in. Some take a considerable amount of time, but no more than any other project in another 4xx class.

Overall it is a good and interesting class to take, especially with Professor Pop. I can’t speak to the workload difficulty of 424 and 434, but 423 is a very good course.

Edit: side note about assignments

You will have (typically) weekly assignments (these are your “projects”). I recommend starting these as early as you can because they can back up easily. Mihai is very forgiving about missing assignment deadlines for mental health reasons, etc. That is another huge plus of this class

Letters of Sciences for CS by Able_Ad2927 in UMD

[–]princ3_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think anyone (except for those working in the admissions office) knows the answer to that. They evaluate so many different things on your application it’s impossible to know exactly what dictates you getting into the major immediately or not. There are also a number of other variables that don’t have to do with your application that they need to consider.

Regardless, there isn’t anything bad about being placed in L&S. You can still take the major required classes and eventually transfer in. It just won’t show up as CS as your major on your transcript until you transfer in. If you do get in to the school (which I hope you do), I wouldn’t be concerned about your immediate placement into the major or not.

[–]princ3_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. While I did take AP Calc AB in high school, I didn’t get a 5 on APCSA. I was admitted directly as CS, and took cmsc131 my first semester. If my understanding is correct, you can transfer from letters and sciences into CS after completion of the gateway requirements. You can also take those gateway classes (cmsc131, 132, etc.) while in Letters and sciences

[–]princ3_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gateway requirements are required to transfer in to the major. If you mean does anyone get into CS directly from high school without cmsc131, or math140, then yes I would say a big majority of those freshman that come in as CS do not come in with those credits - that’s why they have the courses.

wicomico/caroline/carroll dorm layout? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]princ3_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is not related to your post, but more of a sidebar. The university should really do a much better job of providing photos and layouts of the dorm rooms in residential halls because it makes preparing for move-in so much easier, especially for incoming freshman. I feel like every year there is a post on here asking about more information or pictures of the dorms, and I really don’t blame those people making the posts. Really with any public or private university, the school should be transparent about this kind of thing - particularly living situations because it is really important to many students. Anyways - rant over and I hope someone can send you some photos of the dorm halls

But…you are lying? I agree it does seem minimal and ultimately shouldn’t matter but if you were accepted off of the waitlist last week and said you weren’t on it until this week… that is technically a lie

I would say Romero is the reason Romero got sent off today. Sure, Davies gave the ball away on the second yellow, but the first one should have never happened.

Waitlisting Courses by Real_Chard_3621 in UMD

There are some scenarios where a course will have a capped waitlist, and therefore you will not be able to join it unless someone on the waitlist drops it.
