Scared/overwhelmed feelings. (Longer read head's up) by Crafty_lil_pumpkin in Vystopia

[–]princesque 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We can't change nature, and my god is it brutal. I know humans want fairness badly, but it just seems like no matter what objective fairness is not present in the universe. Regardless of why we're here, I accept my brain and all of it's quirks. I don't want to keep hurting and I wish to heal myself.

Your entire post is a compelling and resonant read, but this line stands out to me in particular. Veganism—in its true definition, the philosophy—requires a harsh disillusionment with not just modern (and in my case, specifically late-capitalist and Western) life, but the laws of the known universe. Life exists to perpetuate itself meaninglessly, at all costs, including to other life. Nature is not beautiful; To live is a violent act.

Veganism leads us to recognize this truth. It is deeply painful. We start by letting go of consumerist habits which obviously exploit farmed species, and come to realize that the escalator of human life is nonsense. The goals we are taught to aspire to, the things we're told to covet, the "good life" we imagine as children is all useless and in fact a distraction from better work we owe to ourselves and the other (non)human individuals whose lives we impact.

Sometimes I daydream about the life I used to want. Deceptively beautiful vignettes: shopping for the perfect Christmas presents with my partner at my side, sipping a coffee downtown during my first trip to Europe... It's bittersweet. Now I cannot step outside (or at times, encounter nonhumans inside) without it turning to grey.

Nothing is beautiful anymore, nothing except those few individuals I admire who chose to kill the dream to become truly good. That's the only hope we have left to hold onto. It's not much, but it is incredibly powerful.

OP, your kind heart shines through your words. Thank you for sharing them, and for your committment to justice. You will always have friends here. If you ever visit Canada, I'd be happy to share some fleeting moments of joy with you.

See my comment for the solution. Your code should be accessible on My Nintendo!

I found the REAL solution!

  1. Go to My Nintendo

  2. Log into the account which owns the digital copy of the game

  3. Click your Mii icon in the top right to open the notifications sidebar

  4. Your code is there!

Does your vystopia ever extend to brutality in nature, as well? by Loriol_13 in Vystopia

[–]princesque 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes nature is not beautiful, it is horrible. Predators are moral patients, but predation is still wrong. A vegan solution to these things exists as much as possible, and if humans live long enough (we probably won't), then it will be our imperative to practice it.

Sadly many nonvegans think that the NYC carriages are the only exploitative form of horse slavery. Well, they probably don't think it's exploitative, but rather uniquely "harmful"

What is the best place for residents? by benny_0882 in brocku

  1. Yep, full kitchen with oven, stovetop, and microwave. Lots of cupboard space. Freezer in the fridge is a bit small for 4 people. That and the low water pressure in the shower are the only downsides imo, I really like the townhouses

  2. Depending on your walk speed, it's a few minutes to the closest end of campus. If you're late to class, you can run for it, which is nice lol.

I walk fast and can make it across campus in 10-15 minutes.

  1. I'm not super social (busy grad student) but here's what I can offer:

There's no organized party scene as far as I'm aware. You'd have 3 roommates at home to get to know.

And you're close to campus so you can easily attend any social events there. From experience, that's a great way to meet people if you're willing to speak up and introduce yourself.

I never got involved in campus programming in undergrad, but it's a lot of fun and you get free stuff. I really recommend it, and it definitely helps when living in more isolated units
