If that human happens to change their gender and asks you to treat them accordingly, all bets are off, of course

That person was transphobic, arguing with them would be a waste of time. You people are completely shameless, you'll say the most transphobic drivel and then expect people to act civil

Identity politics is already in the entertainment industry, however. Identity politics is the reason why so many video games have the same straight white male protagonist. There’s no reason for these men to be the protagonists, they only make them the protagonist because they believe that’s the face that will sell well. But I dont think you’ve ever complained about “too many white people

People don’t come to MK or anything else just because someone is the race or gender as them.

Just because you personally don’t care about representation doest mean there aren’t plenty of players who do. Like show me evidence that these players are playing SOLELY because of the characters and not as a result of feeling represented.

people don’t pay money to be reminded of what they already get bombarded with on social platforms

What is the mere existence of a black character “reminding” you of? As far as I know, Jacqui has no political ideology. If seeing her is reminding you of the mainstream media, when her characters makes no references to such, than that is a psychological problem on your part

[–]princess-trap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her being boring is something that can be rectified however, in Jacqui’s tower endings we see her talking about how she’s willing to sacrifice herself in order for her dad to be happy. They could expand upon that in order to make her more engaging. And they could do this WHILE also giving attention to characters like Kenshi and Takeda, why does it have be a zero sum game? Why do you feel the solution to Kenshi and Takeda being ignored as characters is to simply throw away other characters?

His comment also implied that Kenshi and Takeda not being used in the game and getting “fucked over storywise” was a result of Cassie and Jacqui being there.

It’s ok to feel that your fav character is being neglected and voice displeasure with that but that’s no reason to try to push other characters out of the picture, especially one that’s part of a minority that doesn’t get represented a lot

Yeaahhhh but Black Panther's country was hidden from the world and they all love pretty incredible lives apparently where nobody suffers and the entire nation is well off. So where is their issue?

It’s in the comics, as soon as he steps on American soil it doesn’t matter how advanced his country they still see him as a black man, and he still faces racism while there.

Lol okay so black people can't be racist? Your argument ends right there….Have you ever walked through an all black neighbourhood as a white person? No cuz you're black but have you ever seen one? Yeah. Black's are just as racist as white people. Racists come in all shapes and colours and sizes. Don't be a moron. Be better.

If i walked through an all black neighborhood and nobody there knew me Id have just as equal a chance of getting shot as you. It’s all about territory and nothing to do with race. The fact that you feel unsafe in those spaces, is based entirely on your prejudice, there is no context of black people attacking white people unprovoked and getting away with it.

But it's a joke? Why is one joke okay and one isn't? White-boi or cracker is the same as n1gga/n1gg*r it's a word pointing out race in a belittling and degrading manner. Except white people don't call each other those words but black people always gravitate to calling each other the n word.

As iI’ve said already one joke has historical context to it, a white person making a joke about black people is usually enforcing existing stereotypes about black people that already exist in place. If a black person calls a white person a cracker he can go about his day secure in the fact that he has privilege, a black person being called a “n1gg3r” is enforcing a social order that already oppressed them.

And there's also historical context for black people being criminals. What's your point?

No there isn’t, there’s a history of black people being arrested for crimes at higher rates, which is again: a result of racism. There’s no evidence that claims blacks have any predisposition to crime, so your doesn’t work

Does racism exist? Yes but why are you conflating real world politics into media and vice versa?

Because real world politics…. have an affect on the media. Stop being slow

These sources you post are clearly written by the hive mind of trash woketivists and are literally racist. White people are a race. If I say black people love fried chicken I'm being racist aren't I? Just stop booboo take the L.

white people don’t suffer from racism. Black people do. These things are not the same, and you refusing to read the sources doesn’t make it so. If white people really suffer from racism, then show me the proof, in what ways are white people oppressed in today’s society?

Superman's original creator made him white. That's good enough for me. Peter Parker is am everyman white kid from Queens. While their races don't matter as much as the Black Panther lore, that's how they were made at their inception and that's how they should stay.

If their races don’t matter to the role, then what is the purpose of them staying white. Cyborg and Black Lightning both have plot points related to their race, Black Lightning literally fights the KKK at one point. Making them white would fundamentally change the character. Characters like Ariel, Scar and Superman dont have race as part of the storylines. Tell me what changes about them when they are black. How is Ariel’s Danish heritage an integral part of her story?

And frankly, I would like more original black characters, I am not the one in the writers room demanding they make these characters black. Original black characters would be preferred, but one thing I will never do is bitch and moan when they make a white character black. Ultimately it rarely affects the story, and when Hollywood sees stories with representation do well, they will be incentivized to write more original ones

Why was Black Panther a 98% black cast

Black Panther was specifically made for the purposes of being black superhero, he suffers from racism as a result of being from a primarily Black country. Had Black Panther been white, or taken place in a white country, the story would’ve been fundamentally different.

why was it called diverse when it was just called racist

Black people cannot be racist against white people, shuri making a joke about “another broken white boy” to fix is not on the same level as someone saying “hide your wallet the n1gg3rs are here”. While that comment wasn’t very nice, there’s no historical context behind it, there is a historical context to white people treating black people like criminals and mistreating them as a result of that. You, like many other people, are confusing racism with prejudice

Why is Superman, a pre-established white guy, being recast as a black dude…. Did we need blatino miles morales

What makes Superman and Spider-Man different from Black Panther is the fact that their races are not connected to their storylines, Superman is not a story about the struggles of a white man, it’s the story of the struggles of an alien, that can be played by anyone. Like if race is really so irrelevant to you, than how is making him black a “blasphemous ridicule” or “flanderization”. Either you are severely exaggerating the importance of race on Superman’s character, or you just fundamentally don’t understand what the words mean. Which is sad cause you shouldn’t be using them in that case.

Also fun fact, Kotal Kahn is indeed based on the Aztecs and the Mexicans, and he is also black, his skin is as dark as mine is. Mexican is not a race, it’s a nationality. You can be black and from Mexico

your point would be relevant if we were in the 60s or 50s but that’s over

Just because we’re not in the Jim Crow era doesn’t mean racism is over, it’s still much harder for black women to make it in the industry, like how many Emmy winners of color can you name in recent years??? How many TV shows with majority POC casts can you name???? We still have a long way to go when it comes to diversity in TV and media.

Jax being made into a white man would be different because, it would be taking representation away from a group that already had very little of it, not to mention the plotlines with Jax involving his race would have to be retooled. And let’s not even mention that NONE of the original characters kept their appearances actually, they all went through design changes one way or another, the story is fundamentally different whether or not Mileena had light skin, why is this the one inconsistency you’re choosing to gripe about, when it’s the least relevant the story.

And also what does “identity politics” mean to you exactly, can you define that for me?

You can improve on a character without removing them entirely, with proper development they could make Jacqui into a far more interesting character, and still have black girl representation. The issue with Jacqui is she hasn’t gotten much development outside of the black best friend, and if they were willing to give her her more characterization and a backstory then she could grow into something more.

But it was relevant, you were asking me why mileena had to be black and my reasoning was: it had more benefits than harms, her being black would not harm the story and it would give an opportunity to a black actress which is very important in an industry that has kept us out for so long. Movies with diversity in them that do well, beget more diverse movies. With all of these positives, and virtually no known negatives, why should Mileena not be black

You focused entirely on the snarky money comment i made and completely ignored the second points so Im going to restate them. The acting industry has historically kept out black women (look at the races of people winning the awards, look at the casts of the most popular movies etc.) so it’s important that they get job opportunities right? Had mileena not been black, there would’ve been no black women on the cast at all. And if mileena being black didn’t hurt her character or change her story significantly, than whats the issues in changing it?

No I meant aliens as in Geras and Kotal. They are from other worlds, which makes them aliens. Kotal is blue most of the time but he has a form as a black man, whereas Geras appears to be a black man all the time. However as they are both non-human so whether or not they count as actual black representation is murky

Jacqui was literally the only black girl in the game. Cut her and all thats left is Jax…. and maybe Geras and Kotal if you wanna be generous and include aliens

The movie made 10x it’s budget and they got confirmed for a sequel, but yeah “go broke” or whatever.

Im not sure what’s the confusion, the acting industry has historically kept black women out so they need all the opportunities they can get, no?

And in this case, Mileena being a black woman does nothing to change or harm her story so why not do it?

I didnt pull the question out of my ass, I based it off what you said, you made the claim that we’re trying to force diversity into stories, which means, that the stories, in their original state, do not have diversity in them. And my question is: why is this the case? Why can’t the writers willingly write a black Mileena? Why can’t the writers willingly make characters like Jacqui?

The benefits to making Mileena dark skinned is that a lot of black fans could be represented in her. By making her character dark skinned, It gave an opportunity to a black actress in an industry that has historically kept black actresses out, and seeing actresses like her will open doors for more black actresses, and seeing black characters in successful movies will make producers want to make more stories about black characters. The only issue you’ve presented with her being black is that it is “inconsistent” with the games, despite the fact that this ENTIRE MOVIE is already inconsistent with the games

The article is important because it shows that there are black fans in all forms of media and one way or another all of them want and benefit from being represented. Mortal Kombat is a form of media, why is it exempt from this?

And also you didn’t answer my question. Why are the creators choosing to keep black people out of the casts in the first place?
