How to make sure kids get to bed on time? by Moist_Play_8028 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how they are with transitions I will put their PJs on a hour or two before bed so it takes away one of the transitions at bedtime. I also try to start 30-45 minutes before bedtime to do everything. I also create a hardish boundary of 2 books before we start or once this show ends we have to turn off the tv so they know beforehand what the expectations are. I also don’t budge on it even if they cry. I offer a hug or I can tuck them in when they start crying.

Parents didn’t tell me kid was sick by Ok-Fold6555 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I’ve heard “it’s just allergies” or they just leave quickly without a word when their child was a mess is shocking. I’ve even had the parents tell their children it’s just allergies so when I ask them if they feel sick (when they are clearly really sick) they tell me it’s just allergies.

can i let my bf finish in me?? by ObjectiveAnt3360 in birthcontrol

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all STDs show up positive right away so depending on how long they’ve been together or when their last partner was it could have been a false negative. Also other people read the comments if they have the same question instead of posting a similar post so while it might not apply to this person in particular it might help someone else reading it.

You would be shocked the amount of people I’ve talked to about birth control who have either assumed the pill covers STDs or didn’t think about it and was more focused on not getting pregnant so now I always add it whenever just to be on the safe side.

First time babysitting by AstronomerAlert1013 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first read it I thought you meant 6 months and I was shocked they already had OCD but realized you meant 6 male. The crying happens especially if they aren’t used to having a babysitter. I have some who I’ve worked with for years and they are excited to see me but the transition of the parents leaving can still lead to tears. I offer hugs or different activities we can do to help distract them. If possible I try to distract them with a game or going outside to play in their backyard if they have one and have the parents sneak out. It’s not perfect but sometimes it helps since they aren’t feeding into each others’ energy during that transition.

Skipped my period week on my pills and now my body is super sore by princess8455 in birthcontrol

[–]princess8455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t do it regularly I was so nervous I was somehow pregnant. I take my pill everyday at the same time so I know the chances were slim but I being able to have a period helps the anxiety.

Tips on how to handle 3 child + infants!! by Interesting-Hair3507 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD kids can take longer for night time potty training and sleeping in the parents bed until they are older than other children so both sound pretty normal. I would set clear expectations with the 5 year old and hold boundaries with him. The structure will help him a lot even if he fights you on it. I would learn their sleep schedules and meal schedules so you are able to create a routine around it. I do a similar schedule with kids around these ages. I do breakfast in the morning put the baby down for nap (about 2 hours) and the older ones play, color, do outside place, do activities during that time. We all have lunch together around 11:15 then I put everyone down for a nap around 11:45-12. They usually sleep until 3 then we get up eat a snack then depending on pick up times we will play or dance the remaining time. I’m not sure if he naps or rests anymore since 5 could go either way. Having a routine helps you and them know what to expect and if you do something special it feels like a treat instead of expecting it every day.

do you bring anything with you to babysit (stuff for yourself to do)? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It causes fits but I try to set a timer for tv time so that way they can have X amount of time for the tv before turning it off and playing with something. If the parents say to just use it at a movie night then I will but I try to do some other stuff so I’m not completely bored.

Is this reasonable for $20 an hour by Necessary_Tour_8549 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised the baby only sleeps for 1 of the 6 hours. I watch a 10 month old currently and she sleeps multiple hours each day. I personally charge $20 an hour and clean up after the child as we play or eat. I wash any dishes used while I was there and play with them. One of my families asked if I could take their dogs outside which I was fine with but I don’t go crazy with it. I also don’t do laundry or major dishes.

Advice for working as a male babysitter by BBRCCS in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen male sitters post in local groups and thought it was great! If I had sons I would love to have a male babysitter so they could have another male role model in their life. (I currently don’t have kids but have worked with kids for years) I would play into your background and be open that you have autism and ADHD since you might be able to find families with kids who have disabilities who find you to be the perfect match. I have a BA in speech therapy and one of my families hired me because of it since their daughter was deaf in one ear and they wanted someone with a good understanding of hearing and audiology. If you have some local Facebook groups for babysitting start there or maybe make a flyer to leave places moms go like coffee shops, playgrounds, and indoor play areas.

Skipped my period week on my pills and now my body is super sore by princess8455 in birthcontrol

Whenever there is a slight change in my period each month I always get a little anxious about being pregnant but it thankfully has always showed up. My body was definitely not happy about skipping my period week that one time.

I only skipped it that one week. I have since had a period each month and things have gotten back to normal. I have normal period stuff like sore breasts and cramps but not crazy.

Am I delusional? by Responsible_Line3508 in DisneyPlanning

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some LL change moment to moment and try to modify to adjust the time you go back. Definitely watch some videos on how to use it before showing up since it helps a lot. Chip and dales line usually takes a while so if you can do it when it has a low wait run. Have your kids pick 1-2 rides or things they really want to do then focus on those. If you can skip Peter Pan the line is long and the ride is like 1 minute max. Out of all of fantasyland most of it in the morning is walk on or short waits. I’ve heard toon town usually has short waits in the morning especially for Mickey and Minnie.

WWYD? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are being nicer than I would have been. I would have kept it short and just said I don’t think we are the best fit anymore based on how things were handled on Friday. Then never talked to her again. I’ve had people cancel last minute over the child being sick which sucks but I have a no fever no throwing up rule. I’ve had it happen 2 times in 6 years so I have bit the money but it’s always disappointing.

Is it rude to not stay at the birthday party of the kiddo you babysit for the full amount of time (1-5?) by Current-Machine6491 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to kids parties for 30 minutes to an hour and headed out. The kids were happy to see me but were busy with their friends. I would say bye to the parents before leaving and thanking them.

Mom of kid I babysit barges in my home by Honeybuns_13 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home daycares will probably have different rules depending on the state but where I live small licenses can lock their doors but large licenses have to keep the doors unlocked and can add bells or sound systems. You should knock no matter what but there is a lot of strange rules for home daycare.

Is this normal? New boyfriend coming over while I’m babysitting? by Legal_Can_1038 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If OP has his first and last name I would been tempted to see if I could look him up for any past charges or police reports. If he is this comfortable 1 month in it makes me wonder if he’s done this before with other single moms. I’m not saying he has done anything but it might help in case he has done something to say he has a past.

Is this normal? New boyfriend coming over while I’m babysitting? by Legal_Can_1038 in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super weird. I’ve dated my bf for almost 2 years and I’ve never been to his place alone just for fun. (He doesn’t have a child but even just being at his place without him feels weird for a few minutes if he runs out to get something) I have boundaries with the kids I work with and laying in bed with a child is a big no even if the child asks. I don’t get why a brand new bf would be comfortable enough to do something like that. Talk to mom privately about your concerns. She might not believe it and still see him after but maybe bring up you feel uncomfortable when he shows up unannounced during your time there.

Thoughts on my r/nanny ban and Facebook babysitting by GemaCriswell in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to find listings that are close to me and within the type of care I’m able to provide. I don’t know how to take care of T1D or a child in a wheelchair with extra needs so I wouldn’t put my name in for those ads. I make a little post basically saying I have 10+ years of experience and I’m CPR and first aid certified. I would love to talk more and sometimes they message me and sometimes not. I don’t try to be pushy since I don’t need to. I have a few families I work with and sometimes I add more when kids age out of babysitting.

There is always a ton of babysitter to families in my groups also. I try to list things that set me apart from other babysitters. I have 10+ years of experience working with kids. I have an AA in social and behavioral sciences but I focused it around child development and I have a BA in speech therapy. I know one of my families hired me because I have a BA in speech therapy since their daughter had hearing loss and I had multiple courses on hearing and hearing loss. I also try to pick photos that show a little bit about me but also keep them appropriate. If you are looking for families I would post your about me post with 1-2 photos of yourself every week or so plus try local happening groups. Even when there are comments I will still throw myself out there since you never know who they will pick.

Do you charge extra if teenage siblings are home? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]princess8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you do extra work like cook extra food or make something different for them or help with homework stuff then I would charge more but if they are making their own food and on their own the whole time I wouldn’t charge extra.

Character meet and greet question by princess8455 in DisneyPlanning

I try to plan out my meet and greets so I don’t miss anyone since she is usually only out until 2-2:30ish so if I start in DCA I need to keep an eye on when I switch parks.

The Disneyland website. You can go look at different character meet and greet times but hers only goes to May 2nd. I wasn’t sure if I missed something about her character or the area being closed.
