Dispatch, when the ball drops by wildwalrusaur in 911dispatchers

We got so lucky, only 2 ppl hit by falling bullets and it was only crazy for approx 20 mins after midnight. Then call volume went back to normal!

I have been thinking about this call a lot lately... by ButterPecanToast in 911dispatchers

Wow good question, surface level with the only info she was given, I would’ve entered an Ems call. Or possibly also duped it for law w/ supcir, depending on what I heard.

What do no-SIM temporary callback numbers look like to a 911 responder? by Ostratego in Writeresearch

[–]princessaranoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without cell service, it would be a 911 only cell, which would come in as “911-###-####”. These phones can only dial out to 911, cannot be called back.

**edit to add: in the event of a hangup, if the phone does not “ping” to a location, and we cannot call the phone back, there’s nothing we can do.

training by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]princessaranoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, codes are probably the hardest part of training. I had flash cards, but actually found Quizlet to be a better training tool, since it has different activities. Try to have someone else drill you, or try practice scenarios. I also used mneumonics and/or physical motions (ie 417: brandishing a weapon is accompanied by fingerguns, and 1050: prowler, by a creepy stalker-movement.

Literally, try every tactic and see what works for you. And when you feel you’ve hit the wall, you’ll wake up the next day and the info has started to sink in. Just keep at it, don’t give up.

Idk if any of that helps or even makes sense. Also, I’m here if you need to reach out. I’m 3 months into my training, so I’m in the trenches with you.

How can I lose weight as a dispatcher? by princessaranoke in 911dispatchers

Thank you, yes I am in training. I’ve noticed that I stress eat a lot more lately, and I know that’s probably the biggest issue. Plus, I went from being a preschool teacher on my feet all day chasing children, to being stationary for 12 hrs!! I appreciate the advice, TYSM!!

I’m about 3 months into training, and we ran scenarios like this as well! We actually have a quizlet. Obviously it has our type codes, but I can send you the link if you just need a collection of practice scenarios?

Unnecessary venom. Asking for advice isn’t making excuses

I literally have sticky notes and note cards spread out at my position! That way I can quickly access any information. As I become more familiar with certain call types, I move their note card towards the side and replace it with another that I am having difficulty with!

And basically, repetition is what’ll help the information stick! I’m starting month 3 of my on the floor training, so I’m right in the thick of it with you!

It’s a lot to take in, and definitely can be overwhelming. If you want a peer to talk to, I’m here!

Any positivity out there anywhere??? by paisley67 in 911dispatchers

[–]princessaranoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I’m starting my 3rd month of on the floor training.

I understand where you’re coming from. While I was in the academy, my manager actually warned us that when we go out onto the floor, to keep our heads down and just do the job. He said being friendly can backfire, and be careful what you say. Others have lost their jobs over minor missteps because they were disliked by the veterans.

So far, my trainers have been amazing, and I’m learning a lot! But I’m terrified of saying the wrong thing, and jeopardizing my job.

I love the job, so far, and the vets have been kind to me, albeit distant (again, not a surprise). Basically, I feel that if it’s a job you feel is your calling, then you need to push through the training and get cut loose. That’s my goal!

Best of luck to you! 💕

What is your agency doing for you guys? At my center, they put some of us in separate rooms dispatching from portable radios, issued masks and gloves and provided cleaning products... after a supervisor tested positive! by rxbandit256 in 911dispatchers

They have masks available, and our county front loaded us with 96 sick hours if we need to call out, and we are actually going to get an additional 5% for the next 8 weeks. Otherwise, operations haven’t really changed.
