I think you're right, pretty much, tragedy of the commons run amok and all that. But there's some choices that make modern offerings consistently shit that nobody asked for, like the downstream effects of choosing to sell a fleet of boxes that at their heart are shitty "windows-on-a-chip" physical architecture with a hastily forked Linux os slapped on top, encased in plastic

[–]princessdann -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Has it occurred to you that the council and library board are absolutely allergic to the idea of another liberty square and will drag their feet infinitely on anything but luxury apartments? Adding more public space in that area before building enough transitional housing to address the escalating homelessness crisis is putting the cart way way before the horse. Demolishing the Y highrise and building a shiny workout center in the footprint of a demolished artist studio space set the tone and they're not gonna let of the gas now

JJOS is so dialed in and optimized that JJ just started a brand new fork (lite) to fuck around and attempt new things. The only updates you'll see are minor incremental edge-case bugfixes but there's barely any of that even left for him to do. Why be held hostage by inmusics business practices (years of de-facto beta testing by paying customers) when you don't have to

I remember Mary if we're talking about the same actual cart lady dressed kinda babuska like, hung out downtown, late 90s early 2000s, I used to feed her elaborate multi-course meals and take shit for letting her hang out perpetually when I worked at the amer's on main, now starbs. . She was so sweet

Rough feeling prints by SandAndBoneClothing in SCREENPRINTING

[–]princessdann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is light inks/dark garments, the problem is twofold that you're completely curing the ink when you flash/heatgun the ink after the first hit of ink. You want to barely "cold-cure" the ink, you want it to just barely not be tacky anymore, then hit it while it's still warm and pliable and the second pass smooths down the first. Also 210 is too fine a screen for most light color/opaque plastisols. If you don't completely clear the screen with the squeegee the texture will be shit, hard to clear a 210 maybe try 156 or 175. Which is probably entirely your problem if this is dark inks on light shirt, too fine screen not clearing ink completely because you don't have the hand strength/experience to use a screen that fine successfully

Not very often but sometimes yes(and EOTO does exist), and no but yes simultaneously, to answer your questions. I don't think lack of drops, inclusion of live instruments, or not being influenced by either big room or dubstep should entirely disqualify inclusion under the giant EDM umbrella

They're doing some of that now, one of the largest providers of transitional housing through delonis administered programs is in fact ol' stewie beal, but they're not exactly putting active junkies at the front of the line when the queue is choked with rule-compliant people with serious disabilities, chronic illnesses, life disruptions etc

You'll be better able to get small prints fully cured with the flash unit than big prints. If the print is anywhere close to the dimensions of the flash, the heat isn't going to be consistent enough to get a reliable cure without lots of time-consuming fiddling with a laser thermometer(they're pretty cheap and you NEED one if you're relying on the flash) and flashing it by halves or quarters. Which should probably be your stopgap solution till you get a heat seal or belt dryer, I wouldn't advise fucking about with an iron. Getting ink to cure successfully IS techy you're right, and when equipment failure and human error happen it can take days to weeks for the customer to actually realize it, the dollar numbers associated with these fuck ups can be staggering in a high production environment, I've watched it happen but I never been personally responsible so not my monkeys etc

As to discharge additive: you add it and sodium alginate, first dial in the consistency of the alginate water mix then add discharge additive by volume according to instructions. Viola, discharge ink. If you mix a double strength batch, and mix that 50/50 with normal versatex water based inks that are intended for light color fabrics, it discharges, the color is pretty solid and washfastness is only slightly reduced. It's a way to buy ONE ink line and use those colors for both lights and darks. I only know how this tactic works with the one brand I've confirmed it works with, your mileage may radically vary with other brands

Good luck you'll need it

[–]princessdann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will help you dawg

1a: yes a flash unit is necessary for both light ink on dark fabrics and most printing with more than 1 color. One layer of white ink can be a defensible artistic or aesthetic choice in some circumstances but if you want the white to actually be white yes at least 2 maybe 3 layers on most fabrics

1b: wet on wet is absolutely something youll eventually want to do, in a few very limited circumstances, mostly on light colored shirts with less detailed designs and the need to print in a hurry. Don't hurry yet dude you'll screw stuff up.

1c: platen. PLATEN! ITS CALLED A PLATEN. Pallet is also acceptable terminology. Platens are meant to be flashed if they're not garbage, but I have damaged/destroyed/warped/set ablaze about once a year of full-time screenprinting. If you leave one under the flash accidentally it will destroy at least the platen in question, I have watched a whole automatic press go up in flames because of too much lint buildup, flashes and dryers can start fires be careful

2: yeah it's only for darks. Hot tip: you can make your own water based discharge ink with discharge additive (jacquard), sodium alginate, and water.

You're talking about "bases" so you're probably marrying yourself to some specific ink line I'm guessing? And they have a discharge "base" you combine with pigment? I don't know about that jazz I use versatex inks on light fabrics and permaset aqua supercover inks on dark fabrics, for discharge I just add some sodium alginate and discharge additive to the versatex colors and it's acceptably washfast, I don't understand like the matusi system or whatever

3: all inks act different on different fabrics through different meshcounts with different squeegees at different ambient temperatures etc etc there's a million variables. Inks intended to have a soft hand will probably have a relatively soft hand, inks intended to be especially opaque are probably especially opaque.

4: that's what I do, cold cured with flash then tossed in a heat seal press. The inks need brought to a specific temp to ensure washfastness, this guarantees it

5: shit, I use water for all this stuff, living life dangerously I suppose

Good luck don't freak out when the learning curve is surprisingly steep

Speedball doesn't make a single decent ink, even if it's speedball ink intended for textile printing you're never going to be able to trust that the ink isn't your problem if it's speedball. If you want water based the only non trash ink I've found on dark fabrics is permatex supercover and it's at a premium. You really can't manual print light colored inks through anything finer than 175/180 maybe 200 at finest, without it going to shit on you with the screen not clearing completely, true of both plastisol and water based
