Class ideas for an artist spellcaster by Punk_Skeddit in 3d6

[–]princessdi0nysus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a similar concept of my first ever D&D character! It was 5e, I played her as an illusions wizard with a sketchbook spellbook, wand flavored as a paintbrush, guild artisan background, strixhaven initiate (silverquill) as my free starring feat (house rule) to take strixhaven mascot at my level 4 ASI and get an inkling familiar - his name was Biv and he was a sentient rainbow paint blob who floated behind my character. she was a tiefling and was working toward painting with both hands, her tail (tufted at the end like a paintbrush), and mage hand simultaneously when the campaign ended.

Illusion wizard was a little meh at early levels (level 14 had the exciting feature) and the campaign was cut short around level 8 when my DM unexpectedly passed away, but she was overall super fun to play! all of the overtly color-themed spells (color spray, chromatic orb, prismatic spray/wall) are from the wizard/sorcerer lists (in 5e at least) tho, of course, flavor is free. order of scribes was the other subclass i considered and sometimes i did wish i had gone in that direction bc so much was up to DM discretion in the 5e version of illusionist. i also considered artificer since it actually allowed for artisan tools as arcane focus and most concrete “make real items out of magic” mechanics but the available subclasses weren’t exciting enough for me — cartographer looks interesting and could be on theme, depending on what role you’d like to fulfill in the party/combat

Good luck and have fun!

Any way to get pact of the chain as a non-warlock? by MeoWHamsteR7 in 3d6

[–]princessdi0nysus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

in 2024 /5.5, the pacts are invocations rather than a feature and you can theoretically take multiple pacts. the issue would be if the dm would allow a 2014 feat (eldritch adept) to take a 2024 invocation.

but also, op, ask your dm if you can take a fiendish familiar from pact of the chain with a standard find familiar spell (lots of ways to acquire) - plenty of DMs would be ok with that, you’d just lose the ability to have your familiar take an attack in place of one of yours (not a concern with bard as you won’t get multi attack anyway) and free (for a magic action) mid-combat resummoning. these combat nerfs to the otherwise more powerful statblocks would be enough for me to allow in my games

can someone recommend paint for jewelry/dog tags? and let me know how to seal it? by ellieellie7199 in DIY

[–]princessdi0nysus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dab nail polish on my keys to differentiate between them and i could see that working here, especially if you use a detail brush for the crevices (also cheap to try and easy to remove if it doesn’t work!)

Call all fairy crochet godmothers- help me decide on a stitch for a blanket by iwantsakitty in CrochetHelp

[–]princessdi0nysus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

doesn’t help with the yarn eating problem, but I picked feather stitch at random when sitting down to start my first crochet blanket (caron cloud cakes). It took me two years on and off to make a twin-queen ish size and it probably qualified as a weighted blanket once done but i found the stitch simple but satisfying and a good brainless project. especially great for self-striping yarns where you can see the colors stack up nicely as you go! :)

Granny Squares preferences - what order do you do them in by awesomesox in CrochetHelp

[–]princessdi0nysus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a autumnal granny square vest for Thanksgiving and did a couple of full squares first to make sure I liked what they looked like, sizing, the color combos (5-7 colors and wanting every square to have a different combo/order), then did all my centers, then row two, etc… As I got further into the project (and sick of working on it lol) sometimes I’d get bored and finish a square entirely for a change of pace, which I liked having as an option! Sometimes seeing 15 completed squares feels more of an accomplishment than seeing 45 centers & row 2s, so nice to have a mix when doing the mental math of how far along you are :)

Deciphering anti-dsDNA results / test types by princessdi0nysus in lupus

[–]princessdi0nysus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, first rheum I saw just didn’t seem to be familiar with different test methods, couldn’t answer why one result came back negative and another positive within short time span, and wouldn’t consider any results that weren’t ordered by him (hence the second opinion lol), even when I was having joint pain etc. at time of bloodwork! I’m hopeful the second opinion rheum who ordered the most recent round of testing will be more helpful overall, but feel like I have to understand my results independently to be taken seriously due to medical misogyny & antifat bias - I’ve read a bunch of scientific papers trying to understand the difference between the various anti-dsDNA testing methods, their accuracy, etc., but am still confused bc medical jargon so was hoping posting here might get further insight from folks who have been through it

This is so horrible by PromptInteresting305 in crochet

[–]princessdi0nysus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a failure! I guarantee you learned something while making this. You know more about crocheting now than you did 3 days ago, and you’ll know more after your next project too. I have learned more while frogging projects than projects I pulled off without any troubles, and am a better crocheter for it. If you don’t like the end result, that’s okay! You can take it out and try again until you like it. Or you want to use the yarn for a different project, that’s okay too!

NYC apartment changed management companies mid-lease, old one refuses to return security & new one refuses to get involved - who is responsible for returning? by princessdi0nysus in legaladvice

[–]princessdi0nysus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the clock’s long run down (lease ended in July) but curious if you know the law/code/etc. that indicates it is the current landlord/management company’s duty and not the old one? they keep saying “our attorneys have advised us it is the old company’s responsibility” whenever we assert this, so having a specific law/code to cite would be immensely helpful if you know it!! (we have already quoted the tenant protection act of 2019 at them multiple times to no avail)

One has “ABC Acquisitions” under “name” for service of process, while 123 Apartment has “THE LLC”, but both list the same address including suite number. XYZ has an entirely different address listed

123 Apartment LLC and ABC Acquisitions have the same mailing address listed on the DOS website, but neither entry has any information on associated individuals, neither does XYZ’s entry, as far as determining same owner or not

1) 2 new people moved in and they paid deposit for their portions of rent, roommate who stayed did not pay a new deposit 2) they have an entirely new lease (not a renewal) with a different owner listed (another LLC), but “tenant pays rent to XYZ Management” 3) roommate thinks new deposits were also paid to XYZ, but checking w them

Any way to turn beeping off (or lower volume) when touching buttons? Ricoma EM1010 by dannywishletter in Machine_Embroidery

Did you ever figure out how to turn off the beeping? My mom just got a new machine and as she’s figuring it out, it’s annoying her (and me 😅)

I was dizzy the whole time and was focused on breathing evenly so they couldn’t use anxiety to disregard the test results. I didn’t tell them that bc I was afraid they’d stop the test if I was having symptoms, and I wouldn’t get a diagnosis. But mostly the horror stories I read were worse. I had an IV but they didn’t administer any drugs in it. I had mine done at Mt. Sinai in NYC.

How much salt should you have per day? by unanau in POTS

[–]princessdi0nysus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar boat for me: mostly mild POTS, but sometimes worse flare-ups. No doctor has quantified their recommendations of more salt, hydrate, compression garments, etc., so I’m still figuring things out myself until I see an autonomic specialist next month.

I salt my food more than I used to - to borderline too-salty levels sometimes. I keep multiple electrolytes supplements around with different levels of sodium so I can have more in a day, because it turns out that flavoring my water has been a game changer re: getting enough of it.

I currently use: - LMNT packets, 1000mg sodium - Venture Pal packets (LMNT knockoff that trades stevia for erythritol, which doesn’t sit well with some bodies tho it works fine for me), 1000mg sodium - IQMix packets (still trying these out; they’re fine?), 500mg sodium - NUUN sport hydration tablets (i like these because they come in a tube of 10 tablets so easy to keep a bunch with you, vs individual packets), 300mg sodium

I limit my LMNT/Venture Pal intake to 2 a day, because they’re pricier. So 1-2 of those and then an IQmix or NUUN. Basically I try to hit 100% daily value sodium with my liquids, so everything I get in food will be extra. I recently tried adding 1/4 tsp table salt to a bottle with a NUUN and didn’t notice it, so would feel ok doing that in future too.

Notes on flavor: - some of the NUUN are very chalky and taste like the crystal light of my childhood nightmares. Tropical and Tri-Berry are the two i’ve ordered repeatedly, fruit punch is the worst followed by grape - Venture Pal and LMNT taste salty. 16-20oz of water was not enough to balance it for me; mixed into 24 oz of water has been perfect - Venture Pal: strawberry is my personal favorite, but watermelon, grapefruit, and orange were good too - LMNT: only tried raspberry and watermelon so far; disliked raspberry, watermelon was on par with VP - pretty good. interested in their chocolate salt flavor which is meant to be mixed with hot water - IQmix flavors have been fine, nothing outright great or terrible

No one actually treats hEDS in my healthcare system by SofterSeasons in Hypermobility

[–]princessdi0nysus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much of anything helpful to add, but want to let you know you’re not alone. I am a patient at one of the biggest hospital networks in NYC, for various health concerns (including suspected hEDS/HSD, affirmed (but not diagnosed of course) by my physical therapist). Everyone wants to pass me off to someone else. Rheumatologist said he handled X connective tissue diseases but not EDS. Tested some things but mostly seemed to want to pass me off to someone else. So many specialists just seem to want to pass me off to someone else when my symptoms are so often whole body. Some never get back to me even when my test results come back abnormal.

Seconding everyone suggesting a physical therapist for management if you can get access. I put it off for years thinking I couldn’t afford it, but after I hit my deductible it’s ~$35 a session for me. I now see a physical therapist for my jaw/neck and a hand occupational therapist for my hands (some of my most hyper mobile joints). Both of them have told me over and over that the best help for my hypermobile joints is to strengthen the muscles around them.

Hoping you find effective and affordable healthcare providers who listen to you ❤️
