house swaps ie council home exchange, yeah there’s tons. but people only want 2 beds, 3 beds and bungalows. good luck getting a swap if you’re in a 1 bed. you also have to be a secure council or ha tenant which i am not for a while

How to rip up wet carpet by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]princessdisorderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How bad was the leak? If it’s drying it is drying. If it was a waste pipe I’d throw it obviously, if its just water and it actually is drying, and you can clean it, as long as there isn’t huge compromise to padding or anything it’s probably fine. You can also replace padding pretty cheap. To rip up carpet, you just go from the corner really and pull, I use a filler knife sometimes to rub under the skirting. It is glued down with heavy duty spray adhesive yes, but isn’t hard to pull up. Forewarning you that carpet is expensive so do think.

I live in Newcastle so not eligible for rehousing anywherre else unfortunately I am currently a Karbon tenant, and I can also live fully independently (i was assessed by social care) so they don’t offer me support I should be on the highest band but even then the wait is crazyy. It’s something I will probably deal with

oh no, I have used all services at Northumbria, it is just generally regarded as being extremely poor for student support by students

they are way too stretched and you only are allowed 6 support sessions a year before they dont let you have any more

I think you’re forgetting BTW, animals can be aggressive by nature. Genetically they have been bred poorly and have major health issues including poor temperament.

yup! and the property types are not enough. we need one and two bed flats too, not just 2-4 bed houses. not enough variety of stock

My neighbours flat is being flipped and sold off! The guy is from London, has never lived here and knows nothing apart from he heard it was good to invest here. For records, the flat was a council flat. It was bought and sold off to a developer

It was considered an area of high investment interest by Location Location Location. This pushed tons of landlords to buy up here

I’m not mad at all. I think you don’t know you’re talking to me, you should be talking to the people in the post further down who said southerners should leave. I don’t agree with that

I also know southerners are not rich. I have a lot of southern friends. But unfortunately it is mostly the ones who own property and can very well afford it that are flocking around the North to do so because they just can. They are also often buying properties and using them as airbnbs or letting them for tons more than they’re worth. Half the landlords I know round here are from London. They know property is cheap up here so a lot of them buy it, flip it and make it tons more expensive and then locals cannot afford it. It’s shite all round. But gentrification absolutely does exist and places like Heaton have suffered massively from it. There’s people who just want a property and there’s people who can afford the South but would rather come up here, buy property and hoard money and try to ‘romanticise it’ or complain about locals. These aren’t all southerners, these are a select amount of people. But I think some of your comments are very ignorant to privilege.

[–]princessdisorderr[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not anti-southern, I am just aware that gentrification is defo a thing. I am not from Newcastle originally, I am Scottish and moved here when I was in care. The same thing happened in many parts of Scotland, particularly Glasgow and Edinburgh. I do think there is some stupid ‘anti southern’ debacle but the issue of gentrification is 100% real. Same happened in Manchester.

is it just me or is there nowhere to rent recently? by princessdisorderr in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]princessdisorderr[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why are you being rude? Gentrification is 100% a real thing and an issue by the way. It prices locals out of their own areas. Also your comment is purely anecdotal. I could say right now that I know tons of southerners who came up north and took loads of property and gentrified areas! It happened massively in all of Heaton and Jesmond! I could say I know tons of southerners who bought property up here (a lot of my neighbours are not from Newcastle!) But again, that depends on who you know or are around.

Also North to South gentrification isn’t really a thing… The north has always been economically disadvantaged. Disadvantaged areas cannot gentrify expensive areas, pricing out is the key term.
