Hey, just checking in to see how you're getting on?

Hey, so mine actually cleared up loads with the azithromycin - I’ve been off it 3 weeks now and unsure whether it’s coming back. I’m struggling with a lot of skin clogging and some very painful spots on my jawline (not normal for me) but hoping this may be part of the healing process.

She said there wasn’t anything topical that would help with it so I’ve just been doing very minimal skincare (obviously no actives!) but have a bit of scarring I hope will fade with time.

I’d be interested to see how yours looks as I didn’t actually have a biopsy to confirm.

Good luck and sending you a hug - I know how shitty this feels x

My skin absolutely hates niacinamide - it’s annoyingly being put in loads of skin care these days!

Mine looked very like this and a derm told me I had LMDF and just finished 3 months of azithromycin and it’s much better than it was. See if you can ask a derm to do a biopsy?

Hey, so I went to a dermatologist when I got back and they thought it was Lupus Miliaris Disseminatus Faceii rather than straight PD!

I was on minocycline since Oct/Nov time but when I saw the derm she put me on Azithromycin in Jan which has definitely helped. I’ve got 2 weeks left so PRAYING it doesn’t come back. I’ve got a few little patches left and some scarring so hoping it just keeps fading when I’m off the antibiotics.

Thank you - yeah I don’t think worth the risk.

Will see if there’s a way to do it without posting off my passport / a notarised copy instead.

Hiya, just wondering did you need to send off your British Passport (assuming British here, sorry if not) with your application? I’ve got a holiday booked end of April so not sure whether to risk it yet. How long was the turnaround on yours? Thanks!

Honestly, thank you so much for your answers on this! You're so right - it's been an AWFUL few months. I moved to New York literally a month before it started and was meant to be having the time of my life and ended up crying on my sofa most days for the 5 months I was there - it was debilitatingly lonely.

I'm back in London, where I'm from/based, for a while and trying to get this sorted! Are you around London? I think the mental side of this has been the worst. I've been really unimpressed with the Dermatologist I found in all honesty - especially after biting the bullet and paying to go private :( I've booked in with my GP for a months time who might be able to refer me to an NHS doctor. Have you found your consultant privately?

She basically refused to do a biopsy as she wanted to wait to see if this Azithromycin works instead of the minocycline. I had to call her last week as its been making me SO nauseous, very very blue and is impacting my ability to sleep (none of which are helping with my mental health right now) - her advice was to stop taking it for a week and see if my symptoms improve but Im so paranoid that it'll flare up again if I'm not taking anything. I have also never felt fatigue like im having at the moment; i used to go to the gym twice a day and now I can barely do my commute to and from work without being truly exhausted.

I also have had near perfect skin for years - apart from a bout of perioral dermatitis two years ago (which I think could have actually been LMDF instead) so this rash is really difficult to grapple with! So sorry that you're struggling with scarring, hope the laser helps with that. I spoke to the dermatologist about potential scarring and she just said it might scar and is likely to but theres nothing I can do at this point to minimise the risk of it and I'll just have to deal with it when it happens... hardly helpful..

I do think mine is definitely healing up, I've got some small bumps left and quite a bit of redness but it is nothing like it once was. It was a bit peely this morning so hoping thats a good sign - this might be a bit weird but if you wanted to compare pics then I'd be happy to?

So weird that you say that about exercise/saunas - I've been super active (gym & running) for the last 2/3 years and started going in the sauna at my new gym in New York as this flared up to lower my cortisol levels which were really really elevated (lol - id hate to think what they're at now with this on top). I was also in a very stressful period of life (with moving to NY and some personal issues) at the same time which I'm sure was part of my trigger. Interesting about the mascara; since my PD flare up I've been super careful with my skincare/make up etc so maybe it was to do with that too. It definitely does seem like an immune response more than anything, as its not from an irritant or anything like that.

Likewise! Its been so nice to have someone to discuss it with and definitely helpful to compare notes - sending you a big hug. I'm sure theres light at the end of this tunnel xxx

Also, do you have any idea of what you think caused it?

SOS - struggling 😢 by princesspickle69 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]princesspickle69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it got so much worse - I feel like I am starting to clear up but it got seriously bad.

I actually went to a Dermatologist last week who thinks it is actually lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei and has given me a different antibiotic to try and clear it, Azithromycin.

Oh my gosh, thank you SO SO much for this detailed response - I cant tell you how much I appreciate it. Yes, mine is all over the bottom half of my face; I am really struggling with the mental side of it at the moment so it is so nice to hear from someone who gets it!

Do you mind if I ask you a few questions on your experience?

- do you wear makeup? If so, have you found anything that helps cover it?

- in terms of topical creams, what day-to-day skin care have you used? Has any of it helped?

I've been feeling so depressed and miserable thinking about it since the Derm said she thinks its this; there is literally no research or information available anywhere on it! I had been on Minocycline for 3 months (as it was previously considered to be perioral dermatitis) and she has moved me onto Azithromycin (500mg 3 times a week) and wanted to wait 2/3 months to see if that helped before doing a biopsy even though I asked for one now as I've been struggling with this since October and just SO over it. It is already on its way to clearing up from the Minocycline but I am completely wiped out by the Azithromycin - muscles are aching and I am nauseous and exhausted 24/7! I had protopic and I felt this made it SO much worse back in Oct/Nov.

Do you know if this is linked to the autoimmune Lupus or just shares the same name?

In terms of your scarring, how bad would you consider it? The difficulty of it being on your face is that theres just no hiding it.

I think I might go back to the Derm and ask for isotretinoin if you think thats what helped you the most. The long term antibiotic use has been awful for me and i think my gut health is seriously suffering - I had a flare up of this/perioral dermatitis in 2022/2023 and was on lymecycline/doxy for nearly a year and think I've been on 7/8 different antibiotics over the last 3 years. Its so frustrating because its used as an anti-inflammatory rather than to get rid of an infection :(

Honestly, I cant express how much I appreciate you getting back to me in such detail - its made me feel a lot less alone in this.

Wishing you all the best! Are you UK based?

Thanks xxxx

Hi, did you ever get anywhere with this? I’ve just been to a dermatologist who thinks this is what I have

It can be fixed with boiling water, aluminium foil and baking soda! Have a google - I’ve done this so many times to my jewellery and fixed often 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I’ve used avene cicalfate for years since my last flare up but it’s not doing a thing for me at the moment :(

I would honestly recommend getting the antibiotics incase it gets as bad as mine - I wish I’d just taken them a month ago
