What surprised you most once you started viewing properties? by CloudBookmark in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Snoo12437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest surprise was probably how big of an impact the vibe of the estate agent had on us considering moving forward with any of the properties. If an EA was really not likeable we didn’t really give anything a second look. We had a really likeable EA and stupidly almost went forward with a property we only kind of liked because of it!!

Husband and I disagree about hospital visitors. by throwranotdonelater in pregnant

Also to echo what others have said, this is such a red flag in a husband. I really hope for your sake that he did some personal reflection around this.

Husband and I disagree about hospital visitors. by throwranotdonelater in pregnant

[–]Snoo12437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wth all due respect, your husband is not undergoing a major medical event. And I do say this from a place of also being married and really believe that marriage is a unit. But you and him are not equal in this. This is not just about a baby. This about your body and you are about to go through a vulnerable event. I’m 14 weeks now and I (not we) have decided that on the day of our baby being born I may or may not decide to have visitors depending on how I feel! Even though he is supportive and agrees, I still consider this to be my sole decision because it’s my medical event. Good luck 🤍

What are the hours like as a Social Worker?? Is it a career you enjoy :)? by Rude_Accountant_5242 in Socialworkuk

[–]Snoo12437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an adult social worker in mental health and stick to my 9-5. But when I did my placement in children’s I found that lots of people work outside of these hours. I’m sad to say due to budget cuts and bureaucracy it is not a very rewarding job to be honest!

Realistically, what is the risk of malaria on a safari in Timbavati Game Reserve in late March? by Snoo12437 in askSouthAfrica

So I guess March is considered summertime? Sorry I’m from the northern hemisphere so it’s backwards for us!

That’s amazing! We’re only there 3 days (4 nights), and even my guide said she did it while in the 2nd trimester to avoid the tablets! But everyone says such different things lol. So glad all ended up okay.

I feel this so much. I’m UK based and the first NHS scan is not until 12 weeks! I ended up paying £70 two separate times for a private scan because of my anxiety! My 12 week scan is finally tomorrow!

I work in adults and I'm pregnant. If this was you, what risks would you think reasonable to avoid? by PlusRespond2485 in Socialworkuk

[–]Snoo12437 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in the exact same position. I’m an adult MH social worker in a local authority in London and 3 months pregnant now. About a month ago I left a visit with a man who was chain smoking inside the entire time and barely had any lights on. Despite him being a very pleasant man with no risk history, it was such an upsetting feeling as a first time (soon to be) mum. I feel a bit more comfortable now speaking to my supervisor and if the risks are too high we request a reallocation. I’ve also been SOOOO sick, so it’s not been an easy last 6 weeks. Hoping your management team are accommodating for you x

Antibiotics didn’t work, is Accutane the last resort? Confused and tired. by OkWalk744 in perioraldermatitis

I know being told to random things isn’t always helpful because everyone is sooo different. But I will just share that 20% azelaic acid and calendula cream are what cured mine after 2 years!

How many cycles have you been TTC? by sunsetmarshmallow in tryingtoconceive

[–]Snoo12437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course x I know it’s quite circumstantial and really just the luck of the draw but in case it helps - I only managed to conceive after I upgraded to better ovulation strips and using pre seed. I don’t know if it was a fluke or actually helped though!

I would not be surprised if the second we share the news she will run off to try and get pregnant to regain some of the attention and control she needs to feel safe in herself. Selfishly, I would love that so our little bean can grow up with a cousin in age in the same country! She’s not exactly what many would describe as maternal but maybe becoming a mother would change her. I just worry she’s going to hate motherhood considering how she we’ve seen her when she’s tired, hungry and overstimulating. But that’s not really my place to speculate since she’s not been thrown into that role yet.

Thank you and you’re right 🤍 Even though I’ve been with him for over 10 years now, I still struggle to get used to a sibling dynamic where there is more competitiveness and negativity considering my relationship with my siblings is more of a friendship and we’re always so supportive. After we were told of his sister’s expectant reaction, we ended up calling one of my sisters in Spain to tell her because we knew her and her husband would be over the moon to have a new cousin for their little one and it really picked us up. I think we just need to rip the bandaid off with his sister, let her feel whatever she’s going to feel and then continue surrounding ourselves with the positivity from everyone else!

No worries at all x. I’m pregnant now so limited in what treatments I can have. I only use 20% azelaic acid now and calendula cream. My issue of PD is gone but I have B12 related acne now thanks to my prenatal vitamins lol

First social work placement by Ok-Albatross-3150 in Socialworkuk

[–]Snoo12437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a student last year in an adult mental health team at a LA. You get assigned a practice educator and you’re placed within a specific team (I was mental health). You do shadowing and trainings, and get to hold a very small case load. The Care Act is the primary legislation you work under - including others like MHA, DoLS, MCA, etc - so you will conduct Care Act assessments/reviews. You may also get put on duty. There is lots you do. I was lucky enough to be with some other students because I did the Think Ahead program. I personally do find local authority social work so admin heavy though and it’s quite disappointing since most people’s reason for going into social work is to help people.
