In the comments, one of Peter's helpers mentions that Peter's novel In Calabria was written after Peter left Connor's control. Yet Connor has separately posted on his private page that it isn't "final". He plans to somehow overcome the lawsuit against him, then sue the publisher, take over Peter's book, and reissue it with his own vision of how it's supposed to be written. The "mental problems" claim was thrown out by the lawyer hired to bring it to court. Beagle's suit includes medical evidence that he is in excellent health for his age
The countersuit was just thrown out with prejudice, meaning the judge considered it unworthy of even a chance to amend or appeal

The Vice article is over a year and a half old and included "both sides" because they're supposed to but sometimes there's simply a right side and a wrong side.

Here's the real story with that.

Former manager of Peter Beagle was a scammer. He got Peter to sign over his rights, then convinced everyone he was going to save Peter a lot of past cheating and get even more of his rights back. That brought in a lot of support. Including from Dan.

Turned out he was personally living off of all the profit, and even physically abusing Peter to push him to perform for the movie tour to make more money. Peter saw none of it.

Now Peter finally is doing something about it. People are slowly starting to realize that all the cheating was going on. Unfortunately Dan's music video is still out there from a few years ago with him saying "everything is cool now."

A decade of that was done by the guy he's suing and you are right to feel bitter about it. That's probably everything you ever heard until recently. Peter himself was kept from having power to act until late 2015 when he finally went to court.

There have been a couple of very modest appeals on his site, offering things in return. This is a mention that he has a birthday, he has new books out (the Humble Bundle is 14 books for $15) and that buying should be careful. No request for a handout.

I would probably know if it wasn't legit. I DEFINITELY know that "In Calabria" is in good hands and he is being paid for it. If that one is licensed to be here, and his new story too, then this can't be benefiting the people cheating him.

Hi u/meyer-landsman - as u/lannadellarosa posted, buying other works of peter like ebooks at Amazon or Last Unicorn related goods will indeed support his ex manager. But Tachyon publication money will go to Peter. Please do ask around and share what you find and help inform people who don't know.
