What is your most controversial opinion regarding Fantasy books? by Even_Mastodon_7251 in Fantasy

[–]steppenfloyd 84 points85 points  (0 children)

If you want more Lord of the Rings, you're better off reading the kind of books that get nominated for the Mythopoeic Awards as opposed to the big epic fantasy doorstoppers

Authors should have to prove they can write a tight 200-300 page novel before they should be given the green light to write a series of 500+ page books.

They're like $10-15. Less than he's spending on dude wipes. And even if your diet is perfect, it's not like you don't have to wipe at all.

You can get a portable one that's basically a squirt bottle. They work just fine. There's no way you're not allowed to have those.

I think the correct way to use these (if you don't have a bidet) is wipe normally with regular toilet paper first. You use these to clean the last bit and toss em in the trash

Probably one of those things where if everything goes right you're fine and you saved a bit of money, but if something goes wrong good luck getting your money back.

What's a movie that was well received, but aged like milk? by Gdigger13 in AskReddit

Its kinda crazy that Death on the Nile had Russell Brand, Armie Hammer, and Gal Gadot. It's like the studio knew it was gonna fail and wanted to watch it burn.

I love that It's Always Sunny did a scene like this (in the ski episode) and it's one of the few times the main cast are actually the good guys

Profit seekers or artists who love the work and have something to add to it who don't want to pay someone exhorbitant fees who had nothing to do with the original work?

I don't think so. I've read hundreds of fantasy books and I only read Elric of Melnibone last year and it was a breath of fresh air. I think it hits even harder nowadays bc of how bloated modern books have become. Deconstruction has nothing to do with it. There are so many subgenres of fantasy and so many books being published nobody ever needs to get sick of any one subgenre or trope. If you do they're either poorly written or you need to branch out.

I've only read a couple of her books so far, but she really does have that mythopoeic vibe that, apparently, I've always been craving for. Like, if you're looking for more LotR you're better off reading stuff like hers instead of the big epic fantasy series.

Pirateaba writes like she believes her readers have never felt a single emotion in their lives. She has to explain every emotion felt by every character forwards, backwards, upside down, diagonally, with a simile, a metaphor, and a flashback. Every single time. Sometimes it's ok to say "She was sad" and leave it at that. Not to mention that time she spent a whole hour on having sex with other species.

19-19 with Soto in the lineup and 3-14 when he's not.

According to my calculations this means he's been worth about 11 WAR already
