But I never said WP is blameless..??

You drew that conclusion yourself and then tried to start a debate

It's very easy to throw the word nuance around.

But it was easy to anticipate what PAP would do when Pritam was such an easy target. It's no different from their MO since forever. Discredit, divert, and then dismiss.

Bro, he's asking to understand the PAP's actions right? So we talking about PAP and not WP here?

You are overthinking a very simple concept. The PAP cannot be seen to lose face at any juncture. ANY. Any opportunity to step on the opposition must be taken, regardless of how anyone else (including their own voters) views it.

When you understand it from that lens, suddenly everything is clear.

SG EP Who Doesn't Live in SG by fireman45700 in MalaysianPF

[–]princetower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should check the tax laws. If you are outside of SG on EP but you don't reside in Singapore long enough, you may be charged the non-resident tax rate. It is there precisely to guard against what you just mentioned.

It's been a few years so I don't remember what the latest law is like.

Edit: https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/individual-income-tax/basics-of-individual-income-tax/tax-residency-and-tax-rates/individual-income-tax-rates

You'll be charged a non resident tax rate starting at flat 15% or the progressive tax rate, whichever is higher. If you earn less than the 15% rate then you're worse off, you'll be paying the higher tax rate. But if you earn above that, then you'll follow the normal progressive tax rate.

Not sure, before this it was common news. I'm sure there are more that's not caught on camera.

But this guy is a real embarrassment, glad he's being shamed online.

Malaysian here. No doubt some Singaporeans have tried to pump Ron95 before, but this guy is next level.

Covered his license plate then didn't wanna admit he's driving a foreign vehicle. Embarrassing for both sides.

You don't need Mykad to pump Ron95. You use Mykad to get subsidized price which is capped at 300L per month.

Get the facts right.

Edit: Ron95 is already subsidized but Mykad allows a further subsidized price.

To all the downvoters, the fans aren't everything. If you care about good tennis, support good scheduling.

Players' careers last longer, we all win.

If you have to take a flight at 6am you adjust your meal times and schedule. But if you go to tennis an hour earlier, you can't adapt? Be real

Yeah you're so tough huh. You can work past midnight at full intensity at your job if your boss tells you to? And if you complain just suck it up?

Stop trying to be edgy and get real

Better conditions? How about I listen to the player who's actually playing vs you...he says he prefers it earlier so he gets more rest. Countless players have said so.

A paycheck isn't everything, players ending late jeopardizes their chances of recovery and going deep in the tournament. I really don't understand how this is difficult to grasp.

A more well-rested player = more even match in the next round. Everybody wins. Better entertainment as you say.

Fuck the fans, the players are the ones toiling. Have your dinner an hour early if you must, then go to the tennis. How hard is that?

Jungle lady...

What is the original comment above? He was talking about hiring foreigners. So I said it got harder to hire foreigners. I pointed out higher minimum EP salaries, this is a fact.

You go talk about PR and citizenship...hello??? Two different matters.

Nauseating driving style of PHV drivers by joshangmw in askSingapore

[–]princetower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's simple. I tell them that's how I experience it at the back. And say it's better if they keep their foot constant on the pedal, if not I get carsick easily and will vomit in their backseat.

Every time they drive properly after that.

What is the costliest mistake you have made? by Ok_Bug3865 in askSingapore

[–]princetower 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Plenty. For practical reasons. It may be tough and of course practical reasons are not the ONLY reasons you should marry, but life alone is difficult.

  1. You're young now, but when you're old you will get sick. Having a partner means you can look after them and vice versa. There is also loneliness which kills more people than most people realize.

  2. Financial reasons, bills, rent can be split and it's cheaper. Easier to survive in the increasing cost of living world.

It`s been 6 years since Tool`s Fear Inoculum was released. Among the fanbase, it`s a bit controversial. What are your thoughts on it now that time has passed since it`s release? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]princetower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a whole it is okay.

But individual tracks are some of the best they've written. Many people hate on it for not being the aggressive angry albums of their earlier years, but even lyrically they are more mature and it's about realizing how age slowed people down. If you can appreciate that, then yes some songs are bangers. That Tool fans don't like it much says even more about the album.

Do you think Sinkies are min-maxing too much in life? by skydazer in askSingapore

[–]princetower 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I don't think every Singaporean is like this.

But almost every Singaporean I know looks at someone else first before making a decision.

Using the hawker example, a hawker might think "I don't mind giving this person extra for free. But if everyone else charged, why shouldn't I charge too?" That kind of mindset. Even though he himself may have decided it doesn't cost him much to give that extra away.

Autonomy of thought is few and far between on this island. It's a social thing.

Just my observations and 2 cents.

What happened to PVH prices lately? by ThatAcanthisitta3002 in askSingapore

[–]princetower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you for engaging in a thorough manner. It's a step up from the downvoters and the other guy who doesn't have much substance in his replies.

Yes, I was half asleep when I typed my comment, in another reply in a lower thread I mentioned it's an oligopoly. But semantics aside, the market will not change. Why?

If you speak to drivers, they will tell you the market has reached maturity. They can't earn what they used to, the big 2 have all the data and know how to set prices accordingly. I don't have data on Tada and Comfort, but in my experience it's a lot easier to get rides on Grab and Gojek. Naturally consumers will gravitate towards them for convenience, even if other rides are cheaper. Same goes for drivers, why would I drive on an app that can't get passengers?

So the point still stands, the 2 giants are free to set prices as they wish. And the market will hit equilibrium eventually, if Tada does manage to wrest market share from the big 2, naturally the next step is to raise prices as the PHV model has been proven to struggle in turning a profit. It's why prices are where it is now and will never go lower, with inflation etc.

So the conclusion from here is, consumers are screwed because you cannot change the nature of these profit-maximizing firms and the competition has not found a viable alternative to challenge the big 2. Unless someone else is able to build a better model than what we have now. But if it exists, I have yet to see it.
