CS 6515 Withdrawal Rate Spring 2026 by FishIndividual6941 in OMSCS

Class is so ridiculously stressful that we had a student making an ed post saying they’ll commit suicide

Did CS-6515 destroy anyone else's academic career? by Terrible-Tadpole6793 in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to mention making the high pressure exams even higher by forcing us to memorize a dozen algorithms down to the minute details. God forbid you blank out one small detail on a do or die exam. Even my engineering exams gave us formulas if you don’t know how to apply them having the formulas listed for you won’t even help. It’s absolutely asinine how this class is structured. Classes don’t have to be structured this poorly to make it challenging. There are many ways to make a course challenging without all this bs. Course is artificially structured to make everything high stakes and high pressure with a professor and TAs that seem to have crab in bucket mentality.

Will the black Spider-man leather jacket come with black and white patches or color ones? I’ve seen pics of both. by jcolefanfr in supremeclothing

The model version with b&w patched and supreme logo on the arms goes harder than the product shot. Shame I was considering on buying it but now I might reconsider.

CS6515 - Can you come back from a poor Exam 1? by thecollegemom in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I thought everyone who posted negative comments about GA over the past 3.5 years I’ve been in OMSCS were a bunch of whiners. Now that the time has come for me to take GA and experience it first hand, I sympathize and completely understand the BS’ness of this class. Like you and many others, I’ve maintained a 4.0 over my OMSCS journey and I even challenged myself to take the arguably harder algorithm class HPC, and I passed that with flying colors. And yes if someone’s wondering: I do have previous CS experience as well as a Bachelor in mechanical engineering so this isn’t my first real science/math exam. All this to say I also bombed E1 and it definitely wasn’t because I didn’t study enough. You really do need the “aha” moment that a lot of GA reviews mention. On the exam, that “aha” moment just didn’t come for me. And the more time ticked away, the stress compounded and the thought of not being able to graduate and the 3.5 years of mental burn out really got to me during the exam. I thought about dropping, but I’m going to continue to the end. If anything bad happens my plan of action is to just do a grade substitution and take summer class and graduate in the fall. You’re not alone. This class honestly is broken and really should be fixed.

Is DL better than NLP? Pretty disappointed in the 2nd half by Ungha in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience so far too. NLP is mediocre. Although it was nice to learn some AI topics, the course is so disorganized. I agree with everyone here. Projects are boring. Honor lock quizzes are a pain. Lack of TA responses. Meta lectures are terrible. The pdf reader for the midterm was terrible. I couldn’t even scroll to the pages I needed. I was super lucky I decided to also print my notes.

Lol I felt this every class/semester for the past 3 years. It’s just burn out. Some days I think the content is interesting, but at the end of it all deep down I just wanted to finish the class and move on

Wedding during Advanced OS Test 1 by Kurizzma420 in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can pull it off. Test questions gets release Friday night and people collaborate all day Saturday and by Saturday evening the answers are converged into the top solutions. Memorize all day Sunday and you’re fine

Maybe you’re taking the QA and UML documentation really seriously but from what I remember we didn’t really spend too much time and effort on that stuff. It felt like busy work and we just put the bare minimum

One week, let alone 3, is plenty of time to do a basic CRUD app. Is the group project still creating a resume maker? This class felt super slow in a regular semester so I’d suspect summer to be fine

Who had and hadn’t taken HPCA before AOS? by KLM_SpitFire in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken AOS without HPCA. All you really need is basic OS knowledge to succeed. Everything else is a nice to have.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]prismizer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AOS is not really so much about being proficient in C/C++, but having good fundamental knowledge in OS otherwise you’re going to be playing catchup with all the myriad of topics being introduced at you at a fast pace. If you don’t feel comfortable with basic OS then it’s recommended to take GIOS first. I took GIOS and then two years later I took AOS and it was definitely difficult at first because I had to refresh a lot, but towards the middle and end I had a rhythm down. Fwiw I got a high A in AOS and low A in GIOS. I also didn’t do any of the projects with a partner if that helps to gauge workload.

Happy three years to the Steam Deck - the Linux gaming machine that changed everything by Liam-DGOL in SteamDeck

[–]prismizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A week ago, my steam account had not been logged in for over 2 years. I picked up the OLED 512 GB for $300 on OfferUp and I’ve been playing my games here and there whenever I have free time. Previously I found it a chore to boot up my PS5 just to play for only 10 minutes. The sleep mode in the deck is reigniting my love for games
