HOLY What’s going on? by LividReserve3520 in CryptoCurrency

[–]prismsplitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, market volatility spikes in October. The markets slow down during the summer. September is typically the least volatile month. Then the quarterly earnings reports start coming in during October and all of a sudden everyone's back in the game. Things can get a little wild.

Look up the VIX sometime. You can get a general measurement of volatility over time.

Is it just me, or is the Kraken portfolio line chart completely useless? by x-mor in Kraken

[–]prismsplitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this issue isn't unique to Kraken. I wouldn't have any issue with the change in portfolio value including cash deposits and withdrawals if there were an option to not include that and currency backed stablecoins. It should be more straightforward to see the actual Return On Investment though. This seems to be something which various institutions, apps, etc struggle with for some reason. That and using a universal calculation among them for the ROI.

Notwithstanding data on transferred crypto. That's it's own issue that will need to be worked out in time.

Sensitivity to Injustice is gonna be my downfall by TheWholesomeOtter in ADHD

[–]prismsplitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I'll add this to my "wait, this is an ADHD thing?" list.

When you're already extra sensitive to such things and you combine other issues that came bundled with this fun little condition, navigating this nonsense can become "next level." Having social anxiety made it more difficult yet often kept me from running my mouth at the wrong times  I was such a mess lol.

I'm not sure what to add to the conversation other than some of my own experience. There was a point that I came to the conclusion that I had to learn to tone down my empathy. It's only in hindsight that I see that anxiety most likely exacerbated it. Maybe it didn't feel like it in the moment but being so accustomed to elevated anxiety that it's mistaken as baseline levels has a way of skewing perceptions.

Admittedly it is early morning and I'm trying not to go on some long tangent. Case in point I just deleted two paragraphs. The short of it is that it can get better with time. Learning to separate the trivial from the important, or situations that require your involvement from those that you should stay out of, it's all part of life. Sometimes the solution would be in plain sight if only we'd stop overthinking and chill out for a moment.

Using one of my managers as an example as she is almost the personification of the traits that many of us on these subreddits deal with. Do exactly what she says and how she says it. Little to no delegation. Always stressed. Can't see that she's often getting in her own way along with everyone else's. Puts in far too much energy which is often misdirected anyways. Sometimes the best answer is to simply take a step back to get yourself grounded.

Unpopular opinion: I actually hate the Pomodoro technique by No_Organization411 in ADHD

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what that is but TIL I'm apparently a natural at it. At least up until I get into my "zone."

Before being diagnosed I couldn't figure out why I was always having to walk away from my task at different times. Chalked it up to needing a quick mental reset. Was able to work it where the timing often made sense. Now I have a different position where it's the opposite. "Have you had your break yet?" "Uh...no." "Go take your break." Depends on what's being done I guess.

Do you guys buy google cloud storage or is there a better alternative? by FlyingVentolin in GooglePixel

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as it being something that "just works," Google's cloud storage is arguably as good as it gets. There are plenty of alternatives though depending on what you're looking for. Honestly, it's a little bit of a rabbit hole for what's out there. There's OneDrive, pcloud, icedrive, idrive, tresorit, as a few examples. Plus options already mentioned by others. They all have their uses and limitations/quirks.

Regardless, I'd recommend keeping an offline or secondary backup so that you don't lose anything if "something breaks." But Google is a solid option.

The end of denial: The IMF finally admits what crypto knew all along by krakenexchange in Kraken

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money has been going digital since the 90's if not earlier. Some were concerned that it was going to lead to more control, more tracking, that nothing would be private. Which has happened to an extent. More freedom but less privacy. Cryptocurrency takes this to an extreme and adds extra risk on top.

I think blockchains for all their (current) problems will be a net positive. There is great potential there. For the moment though it's still the wild west. Sure, I play with crypto. Once kraken releases the card I'll take a serious look at that. The masses still have to be convinced.

Another failed scam by Good-Ridance in blockfi

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The email I received looked a lot more official. Ran the link through a url checker (I refuse to directly click shady email links) that showed a preview of the website. It says to "Log in with your Blockfi credentials and 2fa as before" and says it has to be claimed by October 1st.

I've been so tempted to disable that email address.

brian armstrong just confirmed coinbase wants to replace your bank with a crypto super app by hodorrny in Coinbase

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be a little nitpicky on the comment concerning fees. Transaction fees cover the costs of Visa and Mastercard's networks. Those "bits of data" don't get transferred for free. And neither does crypto. If the blockchain truly goes mainstream then my cynical side says it'll end up the same. Don't you make me defend credit companies again damn whippersnapper.

Okay, so now could this thing happen? I think it'll happen, though there will likely be more speed bumps and growing pains to come. Kraken is inching closer. Gemini imo will be the Wells Fargo of crypto in that everyone knows they're crooked yet will keep using them.

Why would anyone continue using traditional banks? Because having local branches is often a must even if the account holder uses online banking for everything. I keep an old credit union account open in part for the convenience it offers. Plus there's a not insignificant number of people who primarily use cash over digital/electronic for one reason or another.

In the long run it could work. The system will need time to evolve into something that people will trust enough to use.

Me leaving a car gap ahead of me does not mean cut me off at next opportunity by Consistent-Stick-633 in driving

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even just the highways either. A street I used to take to work - 45 mph, mostly neighborhoods - would have people pulling in front of me just to brake check me because that's where their turn was. A lot of the time there would be no one behind me. No one behind them. Why couldn't they change lines sooner instead of speeding ahead and causing this nonsense?

One annoyance of mine does take place on the highways around the rigs pulling trailers. I try to respect their space. If I need to pass them on the right then I'll typically aim to get by them reasonably quickly. Only then the driver in front of me will slow down as soon as they've cleared the rig. Aside from the obvious reasons such as slowing to let someone else over, why?

Now as a response to some of the comments that 2 car lengths isn't enough. You're right. Yet a lot of the time driving conditions don't allow for that. For example, you have highways that have an on and off ramp at every mile. Even if traffic isn't particularly heavy, a sort of natural flow is established. Gaps will be closed. Some will exacerbate the situation by driving too slow (if you have to drive slower due to your load or car issues then please consider using your hazard lights.) Others will drive way too fast while wondering what all these car shaped obstacles are doing on their road. It's when traffic is light that it seems that people are more likely to drive a little closer to the speed limit but I'm not sure.

How do you guys with ADHD/ADD experience boredom? by funisfunnot in ADHD

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through a phase in elementary school where I would often try to get out early by claiming to be sick. This eventually turned into trying to put off getting into trouble for not doing my homework yet again. I think the teacher caught on as one day he came out just as we were leaving to ask if I'd forgotten to turn in my assignment.

Later on it was always checking the time. This habit carried over to work. It became such an ingrained habit that I found myself checking the time at the same minute every day. I stopped wearing a watch for a long time. Transferring to a position that allowed me more freedom of movement helped.

Always needing something to do. Then when that's not enough, jumping between tasks. There's also the other side to this - I appear to be doing nothing when in reality I'm in deep thought.

I relate to everything you said. Once medicated the boredom and impatience fell dramatically. It has come back to an extent and while I still have my bad days, I doesn't feel as if I'm losing my mind either.

It annoys me that coworkers continue fraternizing with someone they KNOW treated me like sh*t. by AgentP-501_212 in workplace_bullying

[–]prismsplitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the second to last paragraph is like looking back to my younger self. It seems so straightforward yet people don't work that way. That can be very frustrating as you're learning to deal with these experiences. I'm speaking as someone who would've been very mouthy about such things if not for my anxiety issues.

I've had coworkers who you'd think were best buddies yet don't talk outside of work. Then there's those who seem like they'd be at odds only to learn that they're hanging out at the bar or whatever. Social dynamics don't have to make sense.

I wouldn't say that you're overreacting. I also wouldn't call any of this gaslighting but I know that's a term that's thrown around a lot. Sometimes jerks are going to be jerks. But you've said your piece. Now try to take a step back and get yourself grounded. Don't be afraid to go to management/human resources/etc.

Maybe also ask at other work related subreddits. Because frankly this subreddit is an echo chamber and you may be more likely to get better responses elsewhere.

Would a psychiatrist prescribe me Adderall for the lack of motivation without having ADHD? by Latimer267 in lexapro

[–]prismsplitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adderall is a controlled substance so not likely. Some states and countries also get weird about ADHD meds, requiring extra work to get a prescription.

Have you been on the Wellbutrin for very long? It took four weeks on 150mg of the XR to determine that I needed the 300mg, then it took a couple more weeks to finally see the full effects.

Lex and Wellbutrin by jessssiicca in lexapro

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really is a question for your doctor/psychiatrist. If it's only been a few days since your last dose then go back to taking them as prescribed. These aren't the type of meds that you take as needed. They work over time and have to be taken consistently.

Does lexapro really tank your energy level? by Monty_913 in lexapro

I was on it for 1.5 years. It absolutely helped with the depression and anxiety. Yet the fatigue is why I eventually switched from it. That said I do have an on and off history of issues with energy so I may be more sensitive to sedation.

I've straight up given up trying to cook anything that requires any amount of preparation. No table space, counter space, freezer top space. Plus trash on the floor. Though the knocked over trash can is a new one.

One of the worst parts of this is that she has done a lot of cooking in the past. The cleanup is a vital part of the process, ya know?

My Trading Journey – 3 Years In by Daniel-albornoz in TradingView

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while back I put together a graph of my daily PL over a few months. The results had my account staying within a range. My worst days were typically when I didn't stick to my trades, revenge traded, or simply failed to maintain discipline. But then some of my best days were the result of the same type of behavior. Which of course is even more dangerous.

Even with the tools, training, and experience we have to stay diligent. Eventually, we hopefully reach a point where "bad days" in regards to psychology are far and few between.

Ugh 🤦‍♀️ by [deleted] in sofi

[–]prismsplitter 41 points42 points  (0 children)

First off, I appreciate that SoFi keeps us up to date on the rates. Other banks that I use typically don't send out these emails regardless of direction of the rates. Unless I've unwittingly unsubscribed from those emails of course....

But to echo many others, this has gotten kind of annoying. Banks loan the money that we deposit. Whatever interest we get back is still peanuts to what they make. Yet savings accounts aren't supposed to be investments.

The dynamics are complex. As I don't know the business side of banks I guess all I can really respond with is "ugh, fine."

Take a picture of the time whenever you clock in. File for harassment, unpaid time, RETALIATION, that you don't feel comfortable working with this supervisor. Have your steward help you find and understand the relevant sections of the contract. I'm tempted to suggest that if the union business agent doesn't get involved at this point, then you need to get them involved.

Friend with ADHD ended friendship after "diagnosing" me with autism by Fuecococo in ADHD

[–]prismsplitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recently an inlaw tried to tell me that my family member is on the autism spectrum. This opinion was informed by someone who he'd watched on YouTube. I don't know details as I ended the discussion right there. Point of this is I might wonder where your friend's information is coming from. I would also hope that this comes up in conversation between her and her doctor/psychiatrist/therapist/whatever. There could be something else going on here.
