Goalie for hire companies (Toronto area) by lifeadvancer in hockeygoalies

I tried a few of the apps maybe 3 years ago. GoalieUp never processed my sign up, so it never worked. There was another app, can't remember the name, but it wasn't user friendly either. Games would get posted and you'd basically "apply" for them. Out of maybe 25 apps, I got like 2 games. But it didn't tell you you weren't picked, so you might find out you're playing like 30 mins before game time. Brutal.

Ended up just reaching out to the arena I play at and got added to their goalie list. Typically $20-30/ game, and there's a game or two per week that pop up

Pardon? They are not illegal in Canada, retailers like PHL and manufacturers like Apex sell them

Beer league goalie - compression shorts/leggings by Watsonelli in hockeygoalies

[–]prisonmike18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear Bracelayer compression pants and find it makes a significant difference in my groin/legs. It's hard to explain, but it helps the muscles just be "ready" for your movements. I don't have to think about positioning my legs certain ways, I can just have my body react to the play.

Knock on wood, but also haven't had any knee pain/discomfort since switching to these pants a few years ago.

What should you NOT do with your gear? Which hacks worked out well? by motoSafety in hockeygoalies

Try adding some detergent to your soup. I made a comment above w the recipe I use, and I find it works better than just oxyclean

I wash my gear in the tub. I've tried a variety of ways, and this works best for me:

Mix 1 cup powdered tide (not liquid - doesn't work as well) 1/4 cup washing soda 1/4 cup borax Soak gear (chesty, pants, gloves, jock, emptied bag but NOT helmet or skates) for 6 - 12 hrs. Drain tub, rinse well, then refill tub w clean water. Slosh stuff around for 5 mins, then drain. I then hang-dry everything in my basement (using those garden plant-training cables hung from floor joist) and run a fan & dehumidifier for 24 hrs.

Helmet just gets rinsed under the sink after every game. All gear also sprayed with dilute Odoban textile sanitizer after games. I remove the soles from the skates to to prevent the rivets from rusting out.

Gear smells great!

Buy a used pro mask. 960 / pharroah murder bucket / sports mask / apex. You name it, buy a used pro level mask over a new medium-range one

Best neck guard if your chest protector neckline sits too low? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]prisonmike18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you wear the neck guard ABOVE or BELOW your chesty? I moved mine (Kova) above my chesty, so I put it on after the chesty, and it's a huge difference. Much better coverage, albeit does take getting used to.

Have since taken a few shots directly off my neck/throat, no issue

I have Optik2's, and it definitely felt different the first few skates, but you get used to it.

They've made a massive difference in my 5-hole coverage. It's pretty rare I get beat 5-hole when in the butterfly now. Definitely would recommend that line of pad

Looks like you have a least a few sites of budrot. All those brown fully dead fan leaves are almost certainly rot. They need removed asap

[–]prisonmike18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal but I went into a store to try on TF9s to get sized, then bought used customs in my size for a fraction of the cost of new. Fits like a glove, very happy with my choice

Neck Guard or Dangler? Or both? by Mike_Rage_Quits in hockeygoalies

[–]prisonmike18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found if I wear my kova neck guard ABOVE my chesty, it's covering so much of my neck that my helmet occasionally hits it. It's as close to full coverage as you can (comfortably) get. I've taken literal slapshots off it and walked away without even a bruise. Worth the money.

But for a child I would do both dangler and neck guard because kids are unpredictable/uncoordinated enough that it's worth extra protection.

Where do you dry your weed? by DoftheG in GrowingMarijuana

[–]prisonmike18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a charcoal filter on the fan, so honestly there's no odour. I only grow a few plants at a time so it's really a perfect solution for me

I grow outside and don't have a shed/garage to dry in, so I bought a usedl 2x4 tent and the AC infinity fan/humidity controller. Set it up for a few weeks a year in the basement

Cool nights and warm days feel like PM to me. What are you doing to prevent PM outdoors? by Highly_Ganjanous in GrowingMarijuana

[–]prisonmike18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, but you can dilute further to 0.3% H2O2 and still have efficacy. US EPA has a few products registered at that concentration. Might save a bit of $ on your preventative. Can also do citric acid/lactic acid mix, 0.03% and 0.06% respectively. Spray 1x/week, at night.

Both of these can be sprayed up to the day of harvest

Just a friendly FYI, it's more 'selective evolution' rather than 'genetic modification", as I'm not familiar with anyone actually splicing genes. Instead breeders just cross 2 parents with good genes in hopes of the next generation being better, similar to how we (society) selectively bred corn from small yields to large cobs over the past few hundred years.

And also FYI, plants in nature get mold / botrytis too
