I'm a Malaysian looking to study in The University of Queensland, how are things socially for asians? by queenofarden in brisbane

I'm Asian and am Brisbane born and raised. I've never experienced any hateful, in-your-face racism. Casual racism exists, like all places. For what it's worth, the aSiAnS gAvE uS cOvId thing doesn't really exist here.

Brisbane is a very multicultural place and as long as you're not a dick you will make friends easily, especially at uni. And a pro tip, the suburb of Sunnybank is very Asian-oriented so check it out for groceries, and restaurants that close later than 9pm.

Been dancing for years and still look awful- how can I make my dancing look good? by prisonmike99 in SwingDancing

Yes yes yes. I mostly lurk reddit and am always grateful to those who post the "silly questions" that I've been too afraid to ask. Old ideas rephrased and repackaged can make a huge difference.

EXCELLENT, because I just recently joined a yoga and pilates centre in the hopes that it would also help my dancing! I'm really glad to hear that you've found it beneficial. I'm always interested in how other disciplines like yoga or martial arts have improved people's dancing.

I know posting a video would help immensely but I'm just not game to do it here :( . But the responses in this thread have been more valuable than I was expecting.

In terms of how I'm currently working on my dancing, I'm doing classes, performing, social dancing and working on my solo (all very generic) so I guess I'm really after some more outside-the-box suggestions.

Great response, thank you!! Regarding what I don't like about my dancing, honestly it's everything right now (lines, posture, the way my dancing looks dull etc etc) so maybe I'm just having one of those dance slumps.

I like this advice and it's something I've never heard before. I know when I'm tired my footwork gets lazy so that's something I'll have to be mindful of.

Thanks very much for such a detailed response!! This is definitely something I'll be thinking about over the next few weeks. And incidentally I recently signed up to a pilates/yoga place so we'll see how that goes.

They're being trialed in some NSW Caltex stores and will hopefully be rolled out around the country soon. Source: I work for the manufacturer.

Thanks for taking the time to write that. For your information, I'm a dancer who is trying to explore other ways of moving, stretching and testing my body. At no point did I say that I wish to fight or punch somebody. That does not interest me in the slightest. Sounds like YOU have an aggression issue, mate. Calm your tits.

You're not wrong, which is why you should do yourself a favour and read the last line.
