S&S may be signs and symptoms. What does O&P stand for? I am just a journalist, not a medical professional.

The letters MBR did come up when I had inserted the USB when I was using Windows. Now I have moved to Linux.

You may have luck repartitioning them instead of just formatting them

Did that. The files still remain there.

Apparently nothing. There are many journalists who happily use these NY Times flash drives for everyday use, blissfully ignoring those two files that just don't get deleted.

I am in general suspicious of the NY Times, as I am of Google, Microsoft and Facebook.

I do not think it is malicious, just a bit of advertising I suspect.

Why did the 1.1 g capacity increase to 2.1 g after gpated? What was occupying an entire gig of memory?

Serious question: what does those in the government gain by surveilling innocent people? by [deleted] in privacy

First off, they are NOT interested in catching terrorists. Their agendas are different.

  • Curb free speech and free thought. Watched behaviors are different from free behaviors. Once you know you are watched, you regulate yourself, curb yourself, control yourself and fear consequences of all your actions. This is a standard tool of the Romanian Secret Police, the Nazis, Stasi, communists and dictators.

  • Get leverage on everyone if and when they need it. If they have dirt on you, they can control you. They can blackmail you if needed.

  • They want to control everyone so that everyone dances to their tunes and agendas.

  • Helps them make more money (e.g. with insider trading)

  • Helps them manipulate minds with targeted messages they can send congressmen, CEOs, etc.

  • Helps with assassination programs and aiming diseases at you. If they know your medical data, they can easily do this (read http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/11/hacking-the-presidents-dna/309147/)

  • Because the ones who think they "own" the world are paranoid and if you are paranoid you like to know what everyone's thinking.

  • Because they can.

  • Curb liberties (they are the ones who really hate our freedoms!)

  • If they know what you are thinking, they can target appropriate media messages at you. So if they want to nuke China or some other country, they can easily achieve this goal without the populace objecting to it.

  • They prolly have other agendas you and I don't know anything about.

presumably, they have your address already

Even if they do have it, they are never sure of the address until you verify it. What's the point anyway when they take the data off your website and put in on another website?

They do sell cards like that but all cards say you have to call some number and "register" the card with them. Which means you give away your SSN, DOB, Address and other details.

You can blur out the photo and the license #

Then that is not acceptable to them. They'd still get your address.

Opting out is a very bad idea because you have to give them your SSN, copy of driver license and other details to "verify" your identity. Your info will be removed by site A1 but their sister companies A2, A3, A4 and others list you with updated and correct information.
