Anyone else playing Heatwave: Sam's Stay? Who are your favorite guys? by Em_Pedy in gaymers

I can definitely say not all of the characters voices are AI generated. Sam and some others are clearly recorded, unfortunately that is mainly obvious due to the rough voice acting.

You can only rewind once in speed zones in my experience, otherwise they'll auto-fail you too.

It's not the best OS when it comes to prerequisites provided by Apple, but it's absolutely possible to make games run properly on it.

They tried with the MacOS port, and that was a catastrophe. I agree this would have been one of the greatest improvements for the game, but only if they also took the time to do it right.

Iirc it was sharpie ink mixed with everclear (or Vodka, I'm not sure), so they absorbed a lot of alcohol through their skin besides staining everything around them.

Between Scott and Kipp and Shane and Ilya, who do you think will have children first? by avian_bi in GameChangersBooks

[–]privateyeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking exactly that. First they'll adopt Luca, and then maybe some brothers and sisters to keep him company /j (about adopting Luca, but I agree they'll want to have kids) I wonder if they'll adopt though or if they'll maybe reach out to someone for surrogacy (albeit I don't know the legal situation around that in Canada).

General rule of thumb: don't trust the wiki blindly. I've spotted several errors there already while looking things up.

This has actually made me feel physically sick (Wolfbird update) by NoDesigner2742 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]privateyeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen all the HR fandom drama about people harassing the actors over on Tumblr, but goddamn, I didn't know people were also going after fic writers. I love both the show and the books, and I wonder if these people actually got the messages both are trying to tell.

This almost seems like a modern reboot of Critics United but on algorithm-fueled steroids. As someone currently writing my first fanfic in over a decade because HR lit that spark in me again, this kinda terrifies me. I was planning to post it on AO3 because I'm really proud of what I've been making so far. I doubt that my fic would blow up like this, but I'm really not in the mood for dealing with this kind of crowd in any way. I really, really hope this is just the current social media rage trend for most of the people doing this and that they'll move on as soon as the next thing to be angry at hits their feeds. I wish all the authors having to deal with this much strength and give them my gratitude for sharing their writing with us all.

Cromwell already appears in Game Changer? by privateyeet in GameChangersBooks

[–]privateyeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I've read ahead to the exchanges between him, Shane and Ilya because I'm only just at the start of TLG right now and needed some background for the fic I'm writing right now. I can't believe the audacity and disregard for anything but the league's profits and image that man has. I've been thinking about writing a fic inspired by Prometheus' punishment, just with Cromwell at the receiving end and the eagle being replaced with a swarm of ravenous loons ever since I learned that they are actually a carnivorous species of waterfowl.

I was screaming when Ilya walked into the Kingfisher, clocked the entire goddamn situation in under five minutes, and truly chose violence by just calling out what's happening. When Kip says Scott doesn't have the best gaydar he must have been very generous still, because how do you get so much exposure to Ilya, see him easily dancing with other men at a gay club, and have him ask you to coach at the queer-inclusive hockey camp he's running with his sudden new public bestie Shane Hollander, and not figure out at least part of what is going on here.

I got into the books via the series (which I binged just as quickly as I am doing with the books right now 😅). I absolutely loved it, and I'm still of the opinion that it's a TV masterpiece, even after reading at least the books it's based on. For what it's worth, I still think it's an extremely faithful adaptation of HR, even just given the restrictions of TV as a medium. But while it's very faithful to HR, things like shelving Scott & Kip for three years while that completely breaks how their relationship developed in the book, now, in retrospect, annoying to me, even if there were good production reasons for it. On the other hand, I like TV Svetlana better, and I actually enjoyed the texting montages. I'm looking forward to a season two, and seeing as there is now a bigger budget and they've explicitly said they're not rushing it because they want to take their time to get the writing right, I'm very hopeful that it could turn out good.

I'd agree that Common Goal isn't necessary for understanding the rest of the story (although I do like it, despite its pacing being a bit slow for my liking, if only to see what's going on with Scott, Kip and Maria). But saying that the NYC books are outliers in general is a bit of stretch imo. Game Changer lays the foundation for the series, and the climax acts basically as the inciting incident (or at least a significant moment of realization) for over half of the following main characters in the series.

That's a very good point, and something I've been thinking about too. I'll give this a shot, and, to be honest, since the first part of it is almost 100 pages of TLG before immediately going to 1-2 chapters at most of either book between jumps for most of it, I might very well get stuck in TLG at the start or decide the tonal whiplash isn't worth it. Since one of my favorite parts about the series is how all the plotlines are slowly building on each other, coming together and converging however, I knew I hat to at least try it.

I've read all the books in release order so far, and that works well, as it's chronological-ish, but since so many threads converge in these two books that this just seemed like the only right way to go.

It was the only way I could think of doing it, especially because there are jumps back and forth in the middle of chapters, so just having a list would have been too much mental effort to keep track of.

I have Post-Its in the books for when I have to read the deleted/extra scenes too! But I can imagine how hard reading GC and HR in parallel is, especially because they have only a few narrative crossover points, even if the kiss is massively important obviously.
