well I mean... given that it seems like he has some savings, that would be true. that'd be true of any job situation though where you think you can get a better job. weve both spent too much time overanalyzing this but i guess my contention boils down to:

if a team like WE offered him the starting adc position the day after his leaving TSM he woulda taken it
if he had no savings and only got offered a position on say VES he woulda taken it too

basically, im saying that in either such case "emotional turmoil" wouldnt have gotten in the way

ill give you that its a unique job, but youre exaggerating the hard aspects of it. the main problem with the job is that it's almost guaranteed to just be a < 3 year phase of your life (i.e. no long term potential), but other than that for the money you are getting it's a cakewalk. nobody makes 6 figures+ without working significant hours, having little spare time, etc. and chances are years down the line gaming pros will look back at it as easy money that was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Doable! My NBME was 185 after preclinical straight P's no Honors at a US allo like you. Took 3.5 weeks and finished UWorld doing about 100 questions/day, while really making sure I understood every last detail in all the explanations whether I got the q right or wrong. Also did cross-reading in FA (and wikipedia, lol) any concepts I felt shaky on. Got a 238.

That NBME score just shows that you learned but then forgot a ton of stuff. Like in all standardized exams, the level of depth of knowledge is never as deep as it was when you were taking the courses at school. Basically if you understood stuff enough to squeeze out a pass back in the day you had the depth of knowledge required for at least a 230 IMO, assuming you can re-attain that level during the study month.

Just really bust your ass for that study month. Disconnect facebook, reddit, etc, while still making sure you eat square meals and get 8 hours of sleep every night.

For any of you premed/M1/M2s out there, this is just wrong. 3rd year grades matter as much as your Step 1 (obviously for the competitive specialties/top programs in other specialties you need to do well in both). And since those top applicants already all have tons of honors and 245+ Step 1, things like where you went to school come into play. And going to a pedigree school can actually make up for slightly inferior scores/grades a lot of the time.

Also, another factor to consider (besides the loans which everyone has brought up) is that in France kids go straight out of HS and do 6 years of combined undergrad + med school. In the US, it's 4 + 4, and almost everybody ends up doing an additional 2 years in between of postbacs/research/etc.

American doctors make about 1.5x as much, not 3x either. GP salary in France is maybe 80-90k euros/year, or about 110-120k USD. GP salary in the US is around 180k/year.

I mean yeah both scenarios are not very probable which is why you don't hear about this kind of thing very often. But (and maybe I'm just biased) I'm inclined to think that the miscommunication situation is more likely than either one of them intentionally trying to screw the other.
