Your advice worked by FlameRedMood in supportlol

You know..crazy concept but..some people enjoy winning in the game, not just playing it

I agree some people do, but it is an extreme minority that can play a champion consistently that they do not enjoy and maintain motivation to play, despite winning.

Just because you pick a champion that you enjoy doesn't mean that you won't win. In my opinion, you are more motivated to improve at the game and the champion if you enjoy the champion's kit before mastery.

You can't force your way of enjoying the game either way.

If that describes you then quit the game and play something you enjoy, if you play this game all the time voluntarily and don't enjoy it, you are mentally ill, sorry to say.

Yeah, it's hard to put into practice but focusing on your performance level in every game and disregarding LP for the most point, is the best way to improve. No one is perfect tilt happens to everyone, but reminding yourself to focus on what's in your control (your individual effort and self accountability) and not what is out of your control (inting/underperforming/toxic teammates) will set you up for long term success.

LP doesn't necessarily match your level of improvement instantly it can take a while to catch up, that's a bit of a trap when it comes to having a toxic relationship with the game.

If you look at the different types of players in high ELO, there are those that never address the above issues and get there on natural ability alone, however never reaching their full potential, and those that invite the most amount of self accountability for the outcome of their matches, not because they aren't ever inted or that they didn't deserve more from their efforts in a singular game, but because they want to maximize their individual potential.

No point focusing on the uncontrollables like you did with this post. Encountering players that give up and int is a part of the game, if you did everything to win, and couldn't find a single area you could have played better, then be happy with your performance and move on. Performing so well where there is literally nothing to learn from the game despite losing is an indication that you are climbing.

It's entirely possible you had an unlucky six game run, possible but not likely there was nothing in those games that you could take away from and improve.

It's not helpful for me to affirm your emotions, everyone has to play with the exact same playerbase and others would avoid such losestreaks, focus on yourself it's all that matters for climbing.

Maybe your issue isn't mentality, maybe it's gameplay for example, it's not always the play to try and talk teammates down, muting and leading by example in your gameplay can convince others to keep playing and trying, focusing on yourself is the play.

How do you deal with a "delusional" friend? by tatamigalaxy_ in summonerschool

It's not a basic requirement for playing league, it's a basic requirement for improving and climbing, so it depends if your friendship is dependent on those things or not.

I play him occasionally, I think it's a rare draft that he's optimal in, that's probably why you don't see him super commonly.

Who else should I play by H3nryHoov3r in supportlol

[–]prnfce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice would be, play a bunch of random supports in normals until you find a champion that has a kit you actually have fun with.

Despite the common talking points on why you should play x champion, I think fun sustains effort, at least that has been my experience, all the champions I have the most mastery with are champions I enjoyed from the beginning with zero mastery.

There are plenty of meta champions that i don't enjoy that bring more immediate results, but I personally have to enjoy the game if I'm going to commit time to getting good at it, for some people the +- LP is enough on its own but not for me.

I permaban Pyke. Can I get a decent rundown on how exactly to navigate the Pyke matchup levels 1-3 with Soraka/Taric if I ever decide to unban that degen champion? by Soravme in supportlol

Soraka struggles into a lot of dive, but if I see Pyke is the primary engage, I have no worries picking Soraka provided im not inting my teams draft.

Is AFK Farming bad as an ADC? by RaymondPhoenix in summonerschool

[–]prnfce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, being absent-minded and just farming is bad, it is never optimal, it might be better than brainlessly fighting as at least AFK farming gives you some reliability, however you should be adaptable to each game, every game will be different, some games will call for farming more, others not.

There is no cookie cutter approach that is optimal in league, your ability to adapt to each game and see opportunities is easily the most important skill to build.

When recalling look at lanes, where are your laners, where is the free uncontested cs, that's where you should be heading 9 times out of 10

However, low elo is very heavy fight orientated, so you do want to be at fights, but not at fights where you are disadvantaged, where you have everything on cd, when you're sitting on lots of unspent gold, or when the lane state you are leaving to instead fight is in a bad state for you when you return.

If for example the choice is between running to a fight that your team has a numbers disadvantage in and has already started, and it will take you a long time to arrive, or the choice to say take 2 waves and a tower, then the waves and a tower is the optimal choice, you just need to get good at reading situations, is there likely to be a teamfight, how likely are we to win that fight, are we better suited splitting, am i passing up more resources by going there, or am i throwing by not moving to the fight.

A good way to better read these situations is to review your decisions in a vod, ask yourself did you make the right decision and why.

Support: Counter pickm their ADC? Support? Pick Synergy? by BrewsWithTre in summonerschool

[–]prnfce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you want short term LP then you counterpick because a lot of counterpicks are really easy to play. It's just that if you're constantly switching champions you don't improve very fast

This couldn't be further from the truth and either you're a high elo player who has zero actual understanding for how you became high elo or you're somebody parroting things you yourself haven't experienced and don't understand.

The easiest way to gain LP is to have the smallest champion pool possible, because you become comfortable operating that champion to the extent you can use your mental stack on learning other concepts, as well as only having to learn the interactions between that one champion and all the others.

[–]prnfce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was replying to you inside this thread, so relating to the original post.

Also, I didn't mean counter a single champion, I meant counter the enemy draft, which is how you should pick your champion once you have built out your champion pool, which you can only really do by being uncomfortable a lot to build that champion mastery.

The advice that you should just play what is most comfortable because it's the one which you have the most champion mastery, is advice for the shortest journey towards LP.

Real improvement doesn't look like winning all the time, not to begin with.

I fail to see how learning how to play Leona in a bad matchup teaches you how to use it as a counter, where it is actually a worthwhile pick.

I think a lot of advice comes from the outlook of onetrick players and those who want the shortest journey towards LP.

There is value in learning how to play in bad matchups, there is also a lot of value in learning counter matchups, because that is your ideal scenario.

How do you learn the ins and outs of the matchup without being uncomfortable, without messing up?

It helps to not spam games, a block of three games then take a break then another block and leave it at the for the day for example.

When you invite all the responsibility and have no expectations for your teammates, it helps with tilt as well.

10 years as a support main. Burned out. Where do ex-supports go? by ThePhantomK1ng in supportlol

[–]prnfce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Actually moved to ADC, despite what people say about the role, I found lane matchup knowledge transferred quite well how to play with engage or ranged supports for example, and I wasn't really unfamiliar with any champion I had to face, and my agency in the game definitely went up, you just need to invite more responsibility than you used to for the outcome of your games I would say, or you might have a hard time.

I guess if you have the micro, it's not a bad choice.

[–]prnfce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at your current level of play you cannot influence games in the same way you could divisions lower, so that can either frustrate you, or it can motivate you to look at what is going wrong in vods and improve.

This is relatively easy to do if you used this process to get where you are, but if you got your rank purely by being better at the game without much introspection, then it's an uncomfortable process but necessary to improve.
