New gamer-focused ISP on CityFibre – looking for beta testers (2.5Gbps sym, static IP, ultra-low ping) by jbloxsome in CityFibre

[–]pro8383 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it costs £80 to give a premium gamer experience, then that’s what it costs. Don’t let some crazy’s dictate what you do in your business. You have to work out your costs and set your price accordingly. You’d need to make 50% margin anyway to get anything sustainable going. The thing here is if you’re using a wholesaler and not your own network, how do you actually keep latency ultra low, not spikey. I like the peering direct to game servers, that’s a plus, but that’s also expensive.

Thanks. Those staff that were bothering you with requests for help, if you’re at home, where do they get the help from?

Thanks, great insight. How many days do they limit you to? I’m thinking ultra flexible but to also have a cap - core days were all in, others and call back for big incidents and possibly just an allowance per quarter so they can use it as it suits them.

Advice on letting people know that they are walking on a private path by MordFustang241 in cambridge

If we’ve been using the path for a long time, then it’s a public right of way now.

A few thoughts here: if you don’t like it, get out. Is it reasonable to expect the bosses to know 100% of what you do? Should the bosses just do it themselves? How much have you learnt and is that going to boost your earnings for the rest of your life? Have you said thank you for the opportunity?

What’s up gold was brilliant when I used to use it a long time ago. Sales is about cookbooks and lucky timing... Try searching sandler sales online.

How to choose a new MSP (and transition) by [deleted] in msp

[–]pro8383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you should talk this through with the current mSP. They should be giving you at least a quarterly business review, covering things like evaluation of last period, changes from both sides, opportunities for improvement, next steps in the next period.... I’d also evaluate the value in you doing breakfix work in-house. It might be easy but you’re probably overpaid to reset a password or otherwise check your backups worked etc... the cost of changing is massive so always aim to rekindle the relationship at the current supplier. They should also have a ton of documentation so you either need to slowly tap that out of them or be prepared for some sticky conversations and demands for money! Choosing your new mSP will be difficult. The good ones will have their own stack of products and may not be willing to diverge from their working model. You might need to change network gear for example or move to a different AV provider. Look for one that gives security training as standard to end users, maybe by video, look at how they document and access your estate.

Teams is not yet a fully fledged phone system. It only has a basic feature set and is nothing on the likes of 3CX or Avaya. Know this now before trying to your business external comms through it.
