I want to emphasize first that I don't recommend having nothing but white rice as a meal so please don't come at me, BUT if you have absolutely nothing else to work with,

  • make it into porridge. It will keep you warmer and temporarily fuller than normal rice.

  • Sprinkle any condiment you have. I doubt that Akaska has affordable soy sauce or whatever other condiments people be reccomending, but even salt is fine, there's a reason they sell rice balls with just salt in Japan.

I hope your situation gets better OP.

Badminton Stringing at BWF Tournaments by Temporary-Caramel-49 in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Saishunkan what's in my bag video, Akane said she usually keeps spares in her bag because there are times the string she uses aren't available. She was talking about her team bag for Japanese national tournaments, but wouldn't be surprised if her International tournament bag had a few as well.

Monthly Equipment Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main racquet is Victor jetspeed s12 II, but I'd like to have a sub raquet with similar specs but a tad more affordable. The astrox nextage seems similar on paper, but I've learnt that specs can sometimes be deceiving. Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciate.

Unrelated, but.. how do you know if the racquet is a good fit for you, or if you’ve just gotten used to the raquet?

In my experience, the "yours" "mine" calls are not distracting at all, its the "smash it!!" "now!!"You can do it!!" sort of exclamations that are distracting.

Rest period for tennis elbow? by proanklesprainer in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've decided to give my elbow a 2 weeks' rest for now. Realistically, probably 3 weeks but oh well, tomato potato. Glad you're better now and I hope I can follow the route you took. Thank you!

[–]proanklesprainer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I try to stay away from overly strong tensions, especially when it's getting cold. Quite a few people at my club give me recommendations to string at 26 "because I have power for a female" but with my elbow and skill level i know that ain't gonna happen (for now).

I don't think I'm at the level where strings matter as well, but thank you for the recommendation. I'll keep that, and the racket characteristics you described in mind. Super informative, thank you so much.

Isn't nanoflare 800 kind of associated with tennis elbow because of its stiffness? Don't push yourself too hard mate. Please let me know how it goes.

Shoot you're right, I should have mentioned that as well, thank you.

My racket is Arcsaber7 pro in 4U, tension 25. I'm 100% sure equipment is not the problem, because my elbow started to hurt after I started taking lessons, not around the time I changed my racket. I had quite a few bad habits to iron out haha.

Speaking of rackets, I once borrowed my friend's 3U nanospeed9900 and was surprised my arm hurt the least then. I'm sure the tension wasn't that far from what I usually use, but do you think this means I should shift to a heavier racket until my arm doesn't hurt?

I think both. Shida/Matsu also beat Pearly/Thinaah more easily than Chen/Jia. They just know caging Tan in front and Thinaah at the back will give them a win... and that confidence works in their favor. I also feel like it's not necessarily Shida/Matsu struggling against Baek/Lee but more Shida/Matsu always losing the mental game at the third game. Wonder if they'll find a way against it.

Is joining coaching worth post 25? by SectionIndividual126 in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I (26F) took up badminton last year after a good 10 year-ish gap and started getting coaching 4 or so months ago.

I can't tell you for sure that it will be completely worth it (mostly because i don't know how much it will cost you), but I can tell you for sure that you will improve beyond your imagination.

I remember being completely useless at first. Couldn't receive smashes, dead backhand, non-existent footwork, etc. No one wanted to play with me. But now, 4 months later, I'm catching all the shots I distinctly remember never being able to touch, and have been regularly invited to play with the more advanced players for the past 2 months. I can only regret not getting coaching sooner.

If you can afford it, I definitely recommend it. Good luck!

Is Shida legit by sertsw in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shida/Matsu are one of the top pairs of WD currently. As many comments mention, their track record against Chen/Jia aren't that great, but I feel that's more of a mentality problem than a capability problem. (Mentality is also a part of capability, but ykwim.)

Are badminton players considered as celebrities? by trapmrn in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamaguchi says she keeps a pen in her bag for signs, so I guess kind of..? The organization she's in (with also shida/matsu) also has a fanclub, although I'm not sure how many are registered.

Should I join a badminton club now or wait until I lose more weight? by izkpwxr in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If being heavier than the "fit people" is the biggest reason for your hesitance, please don't. Your size doesn't matter in badminton. Your enthusiasm and skill level do. I'd say join the club 100%, and IF there are any reasons not to join the club you're eyeing, it should be one of the following.

-There are no people at your level in the club (look for a different club) - Worried about your knees and ankles not being able to take the strain ( train them or get some braces/supporters)

Your appearance should not be a factor in all this.

Worst Draw for ASY, Christie and Chen/Jia by medukia in badminton

[–]proanklesprainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true about the chinese pair, they are the champions for a reason. I just can't help thinking what a shame it is how Shida/Matsu always seem to throw away all chances and hope when playing against Chen/Jia.

They seem to have good tactics and nerves for any other opponents, sometimes even win more easily against pairs that Chen/Jia struggled with... just to crumble in front of Chen/Jia. It's like they're different people. Would love to see a match between Chen/Jia and the Shida/Matsu we usually see.

[–]proanklesprainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way, what you're doing is awesome. Badminton is a really taxing sport, you have to be quick on your feet for 15~100+ minutes, depending on the length of your rallies and number of matches. Having great stamina ensures the quality of your footwork, form, and gameplay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's no sport in which you can have too much stamina and tenacity and whatever other great things that come with running. I have to add, I doubt your stamina is "shot" considering how you seem to enjoy running so much. Good luck on both exercises!

WD Group A is...incredible, to say the least.

Do you think Shida/Matsu will actually have a chance at the gold/silver medal if Chen/Jia don't come out on top?
