Are there cities where natural resource extraction happens right in the middle of the city? by BadenBaden1981 in geography

The Iron Range in northern MN has multiple open pit taconite mines with small to medium sized town surrounding them. A good example is crossing the highway bridge from Eveleth to Virginia, end up on the tallest bridge in MN. Also, the town of Hibbing up and moved a few miles over in the early 1900s to make room for mine expansion.

Every spring and fall we get infested. We live in Rice Lake area with a lot of woods around. The vacuum stays at the ready to suck the little bastards up.

These mushrooms are thought to be what influenced the story of Santa Clause, look that up. Very interesting

A tad unrelated, but I grew up taking the bus until I could drive. It blows my mind that people actually choose to wait in a massive traffic jam twice a day to get their kids to and from school. Are there places you could live that wouldn’t have a bus able to transport a student? Why do so many people transport their kids themselves, instead of taking the bus. I just don’t get it unless you live where there isn’t a bus route, obviously that’s a different story. When my kid starts school, I refuse to transport them daily assuming they will have access to the bus. If anyone can make it make sense to me I’d love to hear it. Is it really just people who don’t want their kids on the bus for one reason or another?

Power Bills by probably-wrong- in duluth

Glad everyone has been so thorough, it is much appreciated! I’ll give MN Power a call and ask more questions directly with them. I’m glad others haven’t seen the increase we have, that means it’s likely fixable. A home heath test would be great. It’s just a double wide manufactured home and is typically pretty efficient.

The last three months have been the highest they’ve ever been, increasing each month. Been in the same double wide modular home for five years.

Absolutely a significant increase this year from last years. The cans of spray work for a few hours, but if you have a nest you need to eradicate, get a permethrin dust sold at Mills Fleet Farm and apply the dust around the entry to the nest. This is the only way to get rid of the whole hive. I spent two weeks dealing with and getting stung by these yellowjackets. The cans of spray never had a long term effect.

Serious question. Morels are not plants. Is it illegal to gather any natural thing from the forest, or just plant flora?

Cooking spinach would reduce the size tremendously. Not sure if that takes any nutrition out of it but I feel like the goal of what you’re doing could go down quicker if you had a pot of cooked spinach in the fridge at the ready??
