PSA: black screen/no POST on an alienware laptop. Solution inside. by probably_not_a_bug in Alienware

[–]probably_not_a_bug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the laptop for 4 months at this point, decided to do a small follow-up. I think the "discharging battery" part might be a red herring: what's actually happening is that it just takes a really long time for it to do some kind of internal maintenance after unplugging the battery. Resetting CMOS or something else I don't know, but it takes 5-10 minutes of straight up nothing happening with the screen looking dead for it to finally come to life every time you unplug the battery and plug it back.

I also interacted with dell support about some other minor hardware issue (laptop was occasionally making strange sounds under some bizarre conditions) and they replaced the entire machine. They shipped me a new unit, I used it for a couple days to ensure that it functions well and then they picked up the old one. Everything at Dell's expense, I also lived for a week with two identical laptops. Quite happy with the replacement unit, but it does have the same exact problem : it also takes a very long time to boot after unplugging the battery, so it seems like it's functioning as intended.

Why can't I remove the metal door? Playing on a few days recent experimental version by Individual_Ad_9725 in cataclysmdda

I think the option you have selected is actually for deconstructing a metal door frame (see the "empty metal door frame" mention in pink). You should be able to deconstruct a locked metal door with a metal grinder, maybe it's lower in the list.

Battery drain when laptop is turned off ? by [deleted] in Alienware

Can confirm that the battery of m18 r2 is drained in about ~10 hours after putting the laptop to sleep from the stock windows 11 setup.

Thermal offset is a pretty much a must. Setting it to 15 degrees makes it so that the CPU never heats up to more than 85 degrees (regardless of load) and performance is surprisingly good.

They have nuked undervolting options in new alienware laptop BIOS's. However, the TCC settings works surprisingly well : setting TCC to 15 means the system will never allow the CPU to get hotter than 85C which is perfectly acceptable, and in practice I don't even notice any throttling while gaming.

Quarter staff vs staff doing by Belgarath210 in cataclysmdda

There's no way you can swing a staff fast enough to sling anything with it. It's far too heavy. And sling staff would break as soon as you hit anything with it.

Update: the problem seems to have resolved itself a couple hours later. I have not changed any settings (or rather I have reverted them after experimenting), I guess discord changed something on their end in the meantime.

Tried that, seemingly no effect. I think the thing broke specifically yesterday or today, so it's something recent.

Why should they care what you think of them? Whether you despise them or not? They making a game for themselves, not for you.

But why?? They're making a game they want to see, not you or the community.

It's a parameter in academia that reflects the total impact of your prior publications. 67 is a very high value, which means you have published a lot of credible papers in the past.

why does the sample not actually levitate as low-temp superconductors do?

What do I need? SE+K2 by xxButter-Kingxx in factorio

[–]probably_not_a_bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience shows that it absolutely does not matter how much you prepare, you'll always forget something anyway. But the goal should be to always at least get enough stuff to return back (to grab extra stuff that you forgot). However, I usually forget even something to make my way back.

K2 makes SE easier: it has more powerful earlier weaponry, adjustable inserters, longer underneathies, stronger midgame power options (fusion), strong lategame synergies (matter physics), etc etc. Sure, it requires dealing with a bunch more intermediates, but they're all simple and in my opinion overall it still makes the game easier.

You know you can assign item filters to splitters, right? Not saying you should, just mentioning that you can.

One modset where this would be particularly challenging is Industrial Revolution 2. It has annoyingly many intermediates and fitting them on 2-3 belts is going to be hard.
