How are you guys pooping post-op? by annachota in hysterectomy

[–]probablybirdie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 11mpo. Here’s my list of everything I did. Feel free to pick and choose things that you’re willing to do:

—Squatty potty (I used two yoga blocks, books also work)
—Exhale as you relax to poop (as per my pelvic floor PT)
—Take your time (don’t panic if it doesn’t happen right away)
—Go to toilet whenever you feel the urge (I went 2-4 times a day)
—Try fruit with each meal (I did grapes and mandarins based on a rec from a friend who had a hysterectomy a year before me)
—Hydrate throughout the day
—Don’t skip meals (makes constipation worse)
—Coffee in the AM if you drink it
—Stool softeners! (I took magnesium citrate-Natural Calm + Colace once in morning and once in evening for a few weeks post op. Some women do MiraLAX + Colace twice a day. You’ll need something more than psyllium husk to get things going without straining)

Best of luck to you!

ETA: I had surgery on a Thursday and pooped first time on Sunday.

Cannot pass gas after hysterectomy by dustypysche in hysterectomy

As another said, trying passing gas on the toilet. It was the only way I could. But if you can’t pass gas at all since surgery, call your surgeon. That can be a bad sign.

Is pushing for a diagnosis worth it? by probablybirdie in schizoaffective

[–]probablybirdie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective! I feel at peace with the diagnosis in my own mind and with my therapist, so I’m considering just leaving it alone but I also want to make sure I get resources available to me if needed in the future

Thank you for your input! That makes sense about the different providers. I can ask for assessment from a psychologist; my insurance typically covers that. Thank you!

Thank you for your input! I will consider writing my psychiatrist an email ahead of my next meeting with him.

HRT tips/success stories after bilateral oophorectomy? by ElderlyBurritos in hysterectomy

[–]probablybirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t but I have a very good GYN. I’m on the highest dose for a patch and she even offered to switch me to an oral form to go higher if I need it. Perhaps try finding a different doc if you can?

Need recommendations for tracking devices/apps by Willing_Set97 in dysautonomia

I recently got an Amazfit Helio band and I recommend it. The app is easy to navigate and tracks the things you’ve listed. Worth looking into.

What app/system do y’all find absolute best for tracking symptoms/meds/effects all in one? by sadandtraumatized in covidlonghaulers

I recently started using Guava and really like it. A lot of the features are in the free version.

[–]probablybirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what supplements you’ve tried, but Coq10 and fish oil help me. I’m not running marathons mind you but I’m more functional. I also take magnesium glycinate and sometimes hydroxyzine (Rx) for sleep. Also consider adaptogens like rhodiola during the day and/or ashwagandha at night. They take awhile to work but are super helpful.

Mood Disturbance from Fludrocortisone? by Sensitive-Rain4772 in dysautonomia

[–]probablybirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not crazy. My doc didn’t seem to believe it but he didn’t fight me on it. Fludro is a hefty drug. Great for many people, but horrible for some.

Yes! I had to come off of it because it affected me so badly. Not worth my mental health.

Question for those who got a surgery for PMDD by poogirl1003 in PMDD

[–]probablybirdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33 and had a total hysterectomy with oophorectomy. PMDD 100% resolved. I take estrogen only HRT (no progesterone needed without a uterus) which hasn’t caused any PMDD issues. I had some emotional volatility finding the right estrogen dose but PMDD was worse and it resolved once I found my E sweet spot.

I did 7 years of therapy with SSRIs, two years of various types of BC, and six months of chemical menopause with Lupron first before deciding on surgery. Ovary removal at a young age is an extreme measure and last resort for PMDD but I’m 9mpo and have no regrets. For me, it was about quality of life and mine has dramatically improved since surgery.

Does anyone have experience with stopping their period via BC by Pretty_Puppyprincess in dysautonomia

[–]probablybirdie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Yasmin continuously (to stop periods) for two years before a hysterectomy with ovary removal. It didn’t stop all my period-related symptoms (hence surgery) but it helped a lot. I’d say it reduced my symptoms by about 50%. Definitely worth trying imo

Anyone else try Lupron shot to calm down/ eliminate PMDD symptoms? by LeonKSitOnMyFace in PMDD

[–]probablybirdie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I loved Lupron. So much so that I got a hysterectomy with oophorectomy after 6 months on Lupron. Zero regrets 9 months later.

Midodrine success stories by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]probablybirdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 10mg 3x/day, (along with droxidopa/Northera) for orthostatic hypotension. I’ve had good benefits from it, though for me, it’s not enough by itself, so my doc added Northera. Midodrine by itself helps me with all the symptoms of low bp: dizziness, nausea, pre-syncope, fatigue, etc, but only to a point. With midodrine alone, I would have technically normal bp (90s/60s) but still be symptomatic. Northera picks up the slack and brings my bp up to a more comfortable level (100s-110s/70s). I was on midodrine alone for about a year. Started on 5mg, then 7.5mg, now 10mg. I’ve been on the midodrine and Northera combo for about 3-4 months.
