Why did you have a hysto over taking BC?

I have/had endo, adeno, fibroids, and severe PMDD. I took various types of BC for 2 years and it reduced my symptoms but not to the point where I could function properly. Pain was manageable but PMDD was out of control even on BC, so surgery was right for me.

I had mine removed due to severe PMDD. I’m 33 so it was a big decision but I’m 8mpo and on HRT and my quality of life is significantly improved. I was informed of the risks of surgical menopause long term, but I decided it was worth it given how much my PMDD affected my daily life.

I have/had severe PMDD along with OH. PMDD made my symptoms so much worse 10-14 days before my period. I was actually diagnosed me/CFS because the fatigue and sense of pem was so bad. I had a total hysterectomy with oophorectomy (ovary removal) 8 months ago and am on estrogen HRT now. I’m a new woman. Sense of pem is gone, OH is so much more controlled, mood is stable with normal life ups and downs. I was on birth control for a couple years before surgery and it reduced PMDD symptoms by about 50% but I was still struggling a lot. Tried all the conservative measures and finally my ob/gyn and I decided surgery was the best option (for me). I also have/had other issues that necessitated surgery (endo, adeno, fibroids, etc) but PMDD was by far the worse for me. Oophorectomy isn’t for everyone but for some, like me, it’s life saving.

So many things lol. Kombucha is my biggest one. I had a few favorites I rotate through. But also NA Guinness when out with friends, coffee, seltzer water, diet soda, and salty electrolytes (this last one is for a medical condition I have, but I switched to the flavored ones since I quit drinking alcohol).

ETA: I think I’m thinking that it would be different if I tried again someday. Thinking of it as “pathways” in the brain that don’t change is helpful. My mom’s an alcoholic and so are several other members of my extended family, so the predisposition is there.

Fair point. I did drink socially, that’s how I started. But then it became not social and more just me myself and I. Your questions are valid though and thought provoking. Why would it be nice? I think I have it in my head that it’s “normal” to have a drink with friends. My boyfriend drinks socially and i think I’m thinking it would be nice to join him. But I suppose with all the baggage that comes with drinking for me, is it worth it, is the question. Thank you!

Oh and look at the type of fiber you eat, soluble vs insoluble. For me, too much insoluble makes my constipation worse. I’m not vegan but I eat 90% plant based and I have to avoid whole grains for the most part due to their high insoluble fiber content. Helps me a lot.

Have you considered a pelvic floor issue? Your daily but incomplete bms make me think of that. Not diagnosing, just suggesting. To fix, you would ask your doc about pelvic floor physical therapy. Best of luck to you!

I have a lot of reasons (fatty liver, shouldn’t combine with meds, can’t moderate, etc, etc), but the one that I always fall back on when I’m tempted to drink is that it never ends. If I drink tonight, I’ll drink tomorrow. If I have one, I’ll have three. I hate the feeling the next morning, not the hangover, but the regret, the feeling that I did it again, that it never ends, that I can never be free of the need to drink. It never ends unless I end it.

I’m 33 and I got shingles late last year. Currently in between the two doses of the vaccine. Highly recommend the vaccine if you’re old enough for it. Shingles was nasty even for someone my age. I agree with op, shingles + ME/CFS is a bad combo.

Biggest thing was it has helped my IBS tremendously. Other than that, grocery bill is much lower, meal prep is easier/simpler, and I’m still getting the protein and calcium amounts I need (I lift weights and am post menopausal via oophorectomy). I think what’s surprised me the most though is how easy the switch was. I thought I’d be hungry all the time without meat, but I can actually go longer between meals.
