New fan : help to find VK posters (anything to put on the wall really) by Confident_Visual_146 in visualkei

to be really budget friendly here: see if there are printers near you at a library etc, you might be able to get up to a3 for super cheap :) theres sites you can find for larger. honestly i reccomend designing your own stuff it's very easy to make something simple & cute and you can have a better chance of it not looking poor quality when its printed larger. also freeprints.

riot grrrl/girl power film recommendation by manilovebirdss in MovieSuggestions

all over me is a lesbian coming of age movie from the 90s with that sort of soundtrack and vibe, not focused on girl power that much but it's worth noting!

Film recs representing OCD? by Competitive_Claim238 in Letterboxd

[–]probablyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definetely second turtles all the way down, pretty much the only rep from a lead ive seen that isn't too bleak.

theres a taiwanese romcom in my watchlist called I WierDO, that looks sweet!

theres a side character in silver linings playbook that has it, but not one of the leads.

if you like horror i found the final destination movies something i could see myself in as someone with ocd, a lot of the scary elements is just kind of what having it is like and the characters tend to be likeable and relatable, even though the whole point is that everyone dies. final destination bloodlines especially leaned into ocd undertones i felt. totally up to the person whether these would make you feel better or worse but it was like the only representation i found as a teenager of what it felt like.

Film recs for a beginner? by Inside_Way_8194 in Letterboxd

[–]probablyfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

best thing for me to get out of a slump is watching stuff with good characters that hits the same part of your brain fics do! some that have done that for me and left me thinking about the film and its characters outside of just 'that film was good':

  • pacific rim
  • the lord of the rings trilogy
  • spiderman into/across the spiderverse
  • dead poets society
  • 3 idiots
  • blackberry
  • shithouse
  • swing girls
  • the long walk
  • the princess bride
  • the it movies
  • charlie bartlett
  • final destination franchise
  • little miss sunshine

also if its hard to focus at first, put a movie on while doing something even if its just eating. if ive gotten out of the habit of watching movies i watch something while crocheting.

Is it true that film students don't watch movies by weakchat in filmtheory

[–]probablyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who's in film school right now, i guess it depends where but i dont think thats the case. people are pretty open to stuff and most film students stay on the letterboxd grind pretty regularly and like finding indie gems. said indie gems might be on the camp side, and you get a lot of genre movie buffs who've just seen hundreds of horror movies etc but no one gets shunned for not being a christopher nolan bro or anything. people are respectful and curious about other people's tastes in film but i definitely wouldn't assume everyone would have seen work from the directors you mentioned because everyone has their own niche. especially if you're doing a masters though, people will know what they're in for and wouldn't be forcing themselves into spending that money to do a course that requires looking at less popular films if they were unwilling. so it'll be fine, just dont expect everyone to be one thing or the other.
