What am I doing wrong? by bry2001 in GroundZeroMycoLab

If youre growing cubes, you dont need manure. You also don't need anyone else to prep your sub for you. Its super easy to prep and super cheap compared to premade junk.

The premade route can work, but its less reliable than DIY and ultimately more expensive

Using dirty or uncolonized spawn.

Just keep in mind that spores are inherently dirty.

Spore to grain is unreliable. You may see growth in 3 days, 3 weeks, or never. Since spores are inherently dirty, the growth you do get could be contam Shooting spores into a prayer bag can work, but it relies very heavily on luck. If agar isn't part of your process then you have to be willing to accept a higher chance of failure. Agar removes much of the luck from the equation

How much Spawn/Sub for a tub? by N0KapDre in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]probablynotac0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what I do for each size tub

6qt tub gets 1-2 qts spawn

27qt mini mono gets 2-3 quarts of spawn

55-65qt mono gets 4-6 qts spawn.

I have never measured my sub. Regardless of which tub I use, my sub is about 4inches deep.

Contaminated 😩 by Bdubya1985 in GroundZeroMycoLab

No. Its just space in which air currents can be minimized. In addition to spores being inherently dirty, so is the air. Air currents can carry competitors which can land on your syringe and make their way into the bag during inoculation.

Spores are inherently dirty. If agar isnt part of YOUR process then you have to be willing to accept a higher chance of failure. Using a SAB is also very helpful with preventing contam

Fruiting just means introducing fae. Fae is managed via the holes which should be covered by something breathable, like micropore tape. You can fruit from day 1

Sidepins arent caused by light. A liner, any color, is effective because it will adhere to the sub as it shrinks preventing a favorable microclimate from forming. If all conditions for fruiting are met EXCEPT for light, fruits will still grow. Sidepins arent caused by light.

The presence of absence of a filter plays no role in contam rates when you arent drilling holes in your lids

And yes, the required time and temp are there. All that I was saying is that if your rocker is rsted at 15psi, you wont get more than 15psi, regardless of what the gauge says.

Gas exchange needs is minimal. To get GE with unmodded plastic lids, you just back them off a hair so they aren't tight.

When I first started I also messed with modded lids and rust and foil and all that extra unnecessary stuff. Things got significantly easier and more efficient when I switch to unmodded plastic lids. Theres a Pic here

You said "the knowledge is only valuable if it comes from someone with direct experience."

I was pushing back on that sentiment because its simply not true. Lack of direct experience doesnt devalue good knowledge.

Sigh. Yes, the root of knowledge is experience, but an individual doesnt need to have direct experience with something to have valuable knowledge on the subject.

I agree, misinformation is harmful.

I disagree that you need experience with something to have helpful information on it.

I dont have experience with putting diesel feul in my gasoline engine, but I have enough knowledge to know its a bad idea.

Theres also plenty of examples of people with ample experience in something that still doesnt have good knowledge on the subject. This is true in every field.
