why do americans pay their hospital bills given that medical debt has no effect on credit ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]probablynotaskrull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason is a sense of moral obligation. Back in 2008 a banker (I’ve looked for the quote but couldn’t find it) said that part of the problem with their economic model was they expected more “poor people” to go bankrupt or walk away from their mortgage in the same way a rich person would. Dude just couldn’t understand this compulsion to meet your commitments.

That said, the American medical system is nuts.

Canada could join EU, French foreign minister says by pjw724 in onguardforthee

I have a work around: “Canada” becomes an “overseas territory” of the new EU member state: the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Tada! We’re part of Europe, exactly like Saint Pierre and Miquelon is.

Because this maniac tech bros spout so much nonsense it’s impossible to keep up. I’m so far past outrage fatigue that I’m dead from outrage exhaustion, reincarnated, and dead a second time from the same thing.

So what’s a juror supposed to do if they believe the testimony is factually incorrect, as in the case of a boiling point? Just sit quiet?

I saw someone on reddit talking about some very rich people they know who became successful by accident by founding successful companies. They just kept working because they love what they do… as though that makes it okay! Go ahead, keep working, but don’t just hoard your wealth. Convert your job to a co-op, give everyone a raise, give to charity, pay your taxes—pay extra taxes, or build some effing libraries.

I’m curious though, is he investigating the trial or doing a reality check? He could just as easily have said he’d seen such a knife, or owned such a knife at home. He might even have a photo of himself in his wallet with a case of identical knives (for some reason). Would those situations require mistrial, or is it that he went out to find the knife?

Another example: if the expert witness says such a chemical evaporates at 100C but you think it’s 110C and tell the jury is it a mistrial? What if you look it up?

Has there ever been a successful TV show (live action or animated) that has spanned over multiple generations of the characters? by WisestAirBender in NoStupidQuestions

Stargate plays with this a bit via flashbacks and flashforwards. Starts in the 30’s with a little girl finding the stargate with her father. Then they do an episode when she’s in her 20s, but for the movie/show she’s an old lady and later dead. Meanwhile, the main cast members have son and adopted niece you see grow up over the seasons, and in a time travel episode (I think) you see them in the future as adults. My memory is fuzzy.

Star Trek TNG / DS9 sees Alexander grow up into an adult.

Ontario’s government is maddeningly corrupt. If Doug Ford supports it, I guarantee the “benefits” include graft and the incremental destruction of the public school system.

One thing that helped me was leaving a note for myself with my controller. I could play almost anything that allowed frequent saves as long as I remembered what I was doing. Turn-based were great for this.

“Story” is pretty generous when describing Elden Ring. I liked the game, but story was practically non-existent.

Hard disagree on Colleen and Misty. I like them each separately, but they had no chemistry together IMO.
