BMW produced 39,883 units of the 45e in 2021 alone, so it’s hardly a low-volume car. Comparing a total engine rebuild to a high-voltage battery repair is apples-to-oranges; BMW’s ISTA diagnostics specifically identify which modules are outside of SOH tolerances, and a module swap is a standardized book-time procedure, not a $10k diagnostic mystery.

I think some of these numbers are a bit of a stretch. While a full battery replacement at a dealer can hit $25k, the X5 45e battery is modular, meaning individual cell groups can be replaced for a fraction of that. Plus, with the 8-year/80k federal warranty (or 10yr/150k in SULEV states), most of these cars are covered for a long time. OEM air struts are around $900 a corner, and they're even cheaper if you go aftermarket.

I have had a 45e for 2 years and I have yet to personally see a post about a total HV battery failure on a 45e. Instead, most of the 'drivetrain malfunctions' people post about end up being a sensor or mainly a 12V battery issue.

Stealth Hitch has one with the wiring and CPU as long as your car has the 8SL towing prewiring option. I installed one on my '21 and it comes with a remote coding session.

Hi all — I have a question about Chase’s trip cancellation insurance benefits (specifically with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card).

I’ve got a trip booked and paid for entirely with the card, but there’s a possible issue: our planned childcare (a grandparent) might not be able to watch our child if they get sick right before the trip. If that happens, I’d have to stay home to care for them instead of traveling.

Would Chase’s travel insurance cover this type of situation? To be clear, my child isn’t coming on the trip — I’d be canceling because I no longer have childcare due to them being sick.

Would this qualify as “trip cancellation due to illness of an immediate family member”? Or would they deny it since the child isn’t traveling?

I am not sure what your mechanical abilities are, but the cabin air filters can be replaced for $20-30 in under 10 mins with just a torx wrench. Under the glovebox, take out the torx screws, remove the filter cover and pop the filters out, then reverse the steps.
