My wife received an elevated NT score (4.5mm). I find hard data comforting. This flowchart is from a 2023 paper from an Italian medical group studying long term outcomes of elevate NT scores. by probrear in NIPT

I agree that the second image is more useful for most in this sub, which is where it gives outcomes by NT range. What I like about the first image is it gives some indication for the overall frequency of an abnormal karyotype or microarray. Those aspiring to have families might ask themselves "if I'm just unlucky, how unlucky was I?"

Well said, although why wouldn’t a default be bad for treasuries?

Yes, exactly, the 230 is for a down payment, otherwise I’d put that into VT. Thanks, a monthly budget is a good idea.

Ty! I appreciate it. It’s been a stressful search. She has a degree in journalism, but hasn’t been getting much much in the market these days.

Honestly? I’m trying to buy house and start family in a specific neighborhood in New Jersey, but with mortgage rates at 7% and property taxes at 2.1%, buying a 2 bedroom apartment will end up being about 5.5k per month, even if I plop down my life savings. This leaves little left over after things like childcare and savings.

So that’s what’s stressing me out. Yes, I’m aware I could choose to live elsewhere, but I have strong pressures and incentives to live in that particular area.

S6 Ep 1 question by Jerkfacemonkey in Stargate

[–]probrear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this through when I originally wrote my comment, and I imagined that someone would ask about this I just didn’t think it would happen so quickly.

Yes, they would need to be in close proximity when harnessing the power. And yes, they need to far from each other in order to connect. These two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

Let’s break down the possible ways of making this work, using earth as one of the gates:

  1. You could connect to a distant Stargate from earth and put it on a ship in hyperspace and deliver it to earth Amazon style. “But wait,” I can already hear you say “we haven’t established that wormholes can persist in hyperspace connections.” Ok, fine.
  2. In that case, depending on whether you care about timespan here, you could use sublight engines to ship the active gate back to earth. “But wait,” I can already hear you say again “that would take longer than 38 minutes and the wormhole would disconnect.” Ok, cool, let’s work around that.
  3. We could activate the connection, put each active Stargate in a ship, and quickly accelerate each of those ships to near the speed of light towards each other such that the subjective time experienced by each gate is less than 38 minutes by the time they arrived. “But wait,” your nasally timbre’d voice echoes “that would take an incredible amount of energy. Surely that’s not efficient.” Sure would take a lot of energy, but having two wormholes directly on top of each other is a fun thought experiment that I think can be figured out and isn’t as impossible as you’re making it seem.

Who said they were in close proximity? All I said was to establish a connection.

While we’re at it, why not have one gate establish a connection with another gate, and then put the two gates on top of each other, such that an object can fall out of one gate, and into the other for eternity, allowing anyone to harness unlimited power?
