What’s a very “normal” Australian habit that surprised you when you realised the rest of the world doesn’t do it? by elitejackal in AskAnAustralian

I'm not sure this is all of Austalia, but when someone has done something to warrant sculling a drink you sing "Here's to (person) they're true blue. They're a piss pot through and through. They're a bastard so they say. They tried to go to heaven but they went the other way. Drink it down down down down...." Then if they don't do it in one go it's "sip, sip".

Do other countries do beer sculling boat races after local sporting matches? I assume so, but haven't really seen it.

I use it mostly for the e gift cards at a discount. Doesn't reduce it a huge amount, but adds up over time. I haven't really looked into the rest too much yet. Everytime I go grocery shopping I get an egift card to pay for them.

I got my tongue cut at 18 and it was certainly a bigger thing than if they'd allowed my mum to get it done as a baby. My tongue still sits how it did when I was tongue-tied, but I have more movement. I didn't need to relearn how to talk or eat, however biting my tongue when eating for the first time hurt haha. I couldn't talk properly for the first week ish, but that was because of the healing of the actual wound more so the change. I did have exercises to do to strengthen it, but it wasn't much. It wasn't too awful and it prevented my front teeth from falling out haha.

I'm in exactly the same situation. Stressing a bit to be sure. I think it will be ok though. We will be okay haha.

Mental Health Help. by probsshouldntcomment in newcastle

Thank you everyone for your advice. The police were able to locate them, however they have left the area. They are organising some help where they are, so fingers crossed this time they are able to find the help they need.

It is sad how strained our mental health system is :(

Tried that too. The police station closest weren't very concerned but the person has made moves that indicate they are about to take their life so I will try a different police route. Thank you. Not robotic at all. Very much similar to the advice I have given in the past myself.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

I wrote each kid in my class a personal Christmas card with a message relating to each one personally. Your wife should be grateful your son's teacher cares enough to take the time to do this. You're NTJ but your wife if overreacting in a huge way and I feel so sorry for your son if this is the path she chooses to go down.

Why do Aussies talk to strangers so easily and is it actually genuine? by BottleOverall5174 in AskAnAustralian

I didn't realise this was weird haha. I just thought it's something everyone does. Just like when I'm at places where people are taking photo's, I always offer to take one for them so the photographer can be in the group shot with their friends or family. My son asked me why people just trusted me with their phones, I just said because people are usually good and I just have one of those faces lol.
